      I have never been a big fan of Kissinger. However, its fascinating to hear from people who clearly are morbidly obsessed with him, Nixon and the like. I really think they dream of them at night. Better if they use a fraction of their time working in their communities to improve the world their children and grandchildren will live in. I have read almost all your works. Diplomacy, World Order and Leadership are masterpieces. Bleeding heart liberals do not understand that effective statecraft implies taking tough, unpopular decisions that have consequences and cause collateral damage. Thank you for your role in US China relations, for contributing to winning the cold war exploiting the split between China and the USA, for your role in breaking the deadlock between Egypt and Israel. More controversially, thank you for ensuring that South America did not fall under communist influence. Thank you for the generosity that you have shown to Germany, at the time that the British and French wanted to punish Germany as they did after World War I, repeating the same mistakes. I am an admirer. I leave out references to Vietnam on purpose, because your actions can be interpreted in many ways. You however resolved a situation you inherited. A towering intellect. Rest in Peace.

    • @ReturnOfTheJ.D.
      @ReturnOfTheJ.D. Před 7 měsíci +1

      The British certainly have a long history of punishing people who've committed no crimes, and it's clear that most Germans who carried out major war crimes had no ability to choose not to do them. While those who did have a choice should definitely have suffered the worst punishment imaginable, the rest were mere pawns swept up in the maelstrom of Nazi power.
      Unlike at the end of WWII, when the Allies had complete power over Germany, this was not the case after WWI. In an effort to make up for that lack of a clear victor, Britain and France instituted harsh punitive measures that mainly harmed the everyday German, who had no say in any of the decisions of WWI. This led to discontent and resentment that created fertile ground for someone like Hitler to rise up from the ashes and wreak vengenance upon those who destroyed the nation he fought for. It's impossible to imagine someone of Hitler's character rising to such a high political position without the preconditions created by the Treaty of Versailles.
