TOKYO LIGHTS 2023 Sep. Immersive WALL 「重陽の節句」

東京都が主催する、TOKYO LIGHT 2023内の光の祭典エリアに、「テクノロジー」×「伝統文化」をテーマにイマーシブインスタレーション作品を出展いたしました。
華道家元池坊とのコラボレーションのもと9/9「重陽の節句」をテーマに作品を展開しました。
We have hosted a 'Technology' × 'Traditional Culture' themed immersive installation in the Festival of Light area at TOKYO LIGHT 2023, organized by the Tokyo Metropolitan Government.
In collaboration with Ikenobo flower arrangement artists, the piece was showcased around the theme of September 9th, the day of 'Chōyō no Sekku'.
■作品説明
本作品は、「テクノロジー」×「伝統文化」のコラボレーションから、新しい形の伝統文化芸術体験を提案していく試みの一つです。
「祝祭」や「秋の紅葉」を連想させるカラーリングをモチーフとした「TOKYO RED」をテーマに、華道家元池坊とのコラボレーション展示を展開します。
9/9は五節句の一つである「重陽の節句」に当たります。
近年馴染みが薄い節句ですが、旧暦を使用していた頃までは無病息災や子孫繁栄を願う季節の伝統行事として盛んに行われてきました。
また、「菊の節句」とも呼ばれ菊とも関わりの深い節句です。
本作では、華道家元池坊より、華道家 石渡雅史氏をお迎えし、「赤」と「重陽の節句」をテーマとした、「いけばな作品」を展開頂きます。
空間にイマーシブに展開する映像は、いけばなを構成する花材、また「いけばな作品」の一部を撮影したデータを元に生成した、点群データ(Point Cloud)、立体モデルを用いて構成しています。
また、深層学習を用いたAI画像生成の技術「NeRF」(Neural Radiance Fields)を用いた映像表現も織り交ぜ、いけばな作品を「テクノロジーの目」を通して様々なスケール、視点から解釈することで、異なる表現として昇華します。
「重陽の節句」をモチーフにいけられたいけばな作品を通し「季節」「伝統」に思いを巡らせると共に、いけばな作品をテクノロジー通して異なる表現に昇華した映像が全体を包み、「いけばな」「季節」「伝統」を重層したイマーシブエクスペリエンスを構成します。
多層に重なり移ろいながら展開する、文化に溢れた空間でご自由にお過ごしください。
■Art Description
This artwork represents one of our endeavors to propose a new form of traditional cultural art experience stemming from the collaboration between “technology” and ”traditional culture”.
We are delighted to present our collaborative work with Ikenobo flower arrangement artists, featuring “TOKYO RED”, as our color motif, capturing the essence of “festivals” and “autumn leaves”.
On September 9th, we observe the “Chrysanthemum Festival”, one of Japan’s five traditional festival days. Although this tradition has become less familiar in recent years, it holds deep cultural significance in the lunar calendar years. It’s a time for people to traditionally celebrate and offer prayer for good health and prosperity for their descendants. As the name suggests, it is closely associated with Chrysanthemum.
For this exhibit, we had the privilege of collaborating with Masafumi Ishiwatari, an esteemed member of the Ikenobo flower arrangement pioneers, who specially created his work around the themes of “red” and “Chrysanthemum” exclusive for this event.
The immersive projection for this exhibit will feature point cloud 3D models generated from the data captured from the flower arrangement work and the flowers themselves. Additionally, we have incorporated visual expression using “NeRF” (Neural Radiance Fields), a generative AI technology based on machine learning. We have sublimated this flower arrangement work into a unique expression, examining the artwork through the lens of “technology” and interpreting it from various scales and perspectives.
While contemplating the themes of “season” and “tradition” presented through the “Chrysanthemum Festival” flower arrangement, the moving visuals envelop the space, crafting an immersive experience that layers “flower arrangement”, “seasons” and “tradition”.
Please feel free to immerse yourself in this space imbued with transient, diverse and multi-layered cultures.
