The whole performance was a very subtle homage to the young people who were brutally massacred at the Nova festival and elsewhere that October. They had to go subtle because of all the kerfuffle with the song and title, but it’s there. The music video actually looks like people at a music festival. The translation of that into dance and stagecraft (yes, glad they took out the punching, coz those kids couldn’t fight back) is absolutely astounding.
When you say „toilet paper dress,“ that reminds me of the Nova Festival exhibit where they recounted how 30 people were trying to hide from attackers in a single portable loo… Thank you @shmichal1 for the clarification of the shroud…

This song was written about the October 7 massacre at the Nova Music Festival in Israel. Everything in the song has a meaning - the pose at the beginning symbolizes a broken body. The dancers are the angels who came to dance and were murdered. The dress you said looked like toilet paper is like bloody bandages. The sunrise in the back at the end of the song symbolizes the time when the people were slaughtered, it happened at 6 am with the sunrise. Thank you Love and Peace from Israel

    - I'm glad they got rid of the punches too, more fitting to the melody now.
    - love the cat in the back, so fluffyyyyyy
    - I thought the dress looks like bandages, fitting since she is singing about surviving a catastrophy.
    - Israel deserved to get multiple chances because the song is not really political. If France wanted to write a song about November 2015 Paris attacks, it wouldn't be political, it would be about a tragedy in the country's history. 9/11 is not political, the Manchester Arena bombing is not political, 2004 Madrid train bombings is not political and neither is Oct 7. There wasn't even a mention of war, fighting, enemies or anything like that. Ukraine did much more political songs and even won.
    There is a difference.

Now I'm not going to say anything public about my stance on the war except for wishing a more peaceful conflict resolution because I'll just be accused of being one thing or the other when I'm not, but from a strictly objective point of view I like their (rewritten) song and live performance and think will do very well in the finals if we don't take politics into consideration. I find the fact that earlier a media representative asked a 20-year-old something inappropriate for the occasion rather distasteful and disrespectful. Like, don't ask her, ask the EBU and the Israeli broadcaster! She could've been pressured to do things she doesn't want to for all we know!

Thanks for your vid. To Israelis & Jews, the group dance around the punching the air thing simulates the Nova party kids who were partying in nature when they were attacked, butchered, massacred, and kidnapped by Hamas. That's what the song is all about, that contrast. So the air punches and the sudden movements represent that violence.

0:58 The Israeli broadcaster sent the lyrics to the EBU ahead of time exactly for that reason, they wanted to submit a song that would be in accordance with the EBU standards. The EBU didn't outright disqualify it because it wasn't an actual submission to begin with, the just advised KAN to tweak the lyrics and only when they gave them the thumb up did KAN submit the song. I don't a country should be faulted for consulting in advance.
Belarus on the other hand submitted a song that was eventually disqualified (not at first though, as it was uploaded to the Eurovision CZcams account). and then they submitted a second song which was also disqualified. If they had sent the lyrics for consultation before submitting it, they could probably avoid being kicked out but I think it was more important to them to make the political statement then to participate in the contest. Also, I believe another reason for ousting them is that their broadcaster was deemed to be controlled by the government, and their EBU membership was revoked for that reason

Thanks for a great review. I really agree with you about the fists in the air - it was so ugly, now it's much nicer and blends in with the song itself. As for Eden - she is wonderful. If she was from any other country, she would receive much more appreciation. The amount of hate we received this year was so great that to see someone able to express an opinion in a respectful way and without painting us as monsters is touching. I don't know if you meant it or not, but the order in which you expressed your opinion about the situation is the only correct order that will lead to the end of the war - the return of all the abductees will lead to a ceasefire. We all just want peace, and thank you for being able to see that. Much appreciated, Ayla from Israel.

Toilet paper dress is intentional it’s not a year for israel to be too flashy with outfits.

Thank you for this!! 💙 She is SO BRAVE!!! She has had non-stop hate trains & death threats from day one. The song is beautiful - the vocals are outstanding!!!! Congratulations to Eden for qualifying!!! Definitely in my top 5 this year!! 💙🤍🇮🇱

I lost a friend at Nova and it's nothing compared to what WE, the trance rave community, have lost that day! Thank you soo much! I ugly cried for 5-10 minutes after her performance! Baby promise you'll hold me again! I'm still lost in this hurricane 🌈❤️💗
About the choreo, Israel has a VERY strong dance school called Gaga and it's championed by Bat Sheva dance troupe and Ohad Naharin, check them out! Thank you!!!

I live in america so i dont get eurovision updates. I went into a spotify playlist and listen to all of them blind to their country. I like rock and metal so my favorites were Norway, Czechia, croatia, san marino and ireland. However, when it came to ballads and pop. Isreal and ukraine stood out to me among the others. Looking at it blindly without politics i think switzerland croatia Ukraine and isreal ended up around the place they deserve.

Hey Shawn, been following you for a while and happy to hear your complex view.
Nonetheless, in all other videos re. Israel you continuously mention “irrespective to what I actually think of Israel” - which saddens as you contribute into politicizing ESC and taking a very simplistic stand. Good luck to Eden! 🇮🇱❤

Well, I think I understand why Israel got "multiple" chances to be part of the contest while Belarus did not. Belarus cooperated and is still supporting what Russia is doing concerning the war in Ukraine. It's not been officially said but I'm telling you; this is the reason. I'm sure you know that this contest is still political. By the way, many countries in the past had political messages (even stronger ones than the 1st version of this song) and still, they weren't asked to change the lyrics like Israel. Thank you for your reaction!

So great to see brave people who don't fall to cheap idiotic arguments. Was sp sad to see some youtubers not reacting to the song this year. Weak and scared of who? The comments? Come on. Have some integrity.
So thank you for being different and brave.
I am Israeli so I am not objective. But, we are not what people say we are and mostly people lie abothe situation and hold us to such a higher standard while lying and quoting Islamic government of Hamas about what's going in Gaza, and people don't visit Israel but think they have an idea when they don't.
And you are right. We also were sitting yesterday waiting for some crazy person to run to the stage.
And yes! The punches by the dancers were not great so changing it was good as well in our opinion.
And how she performed, was amazing! She did it!

I think it is stunning vocals. Regarding the other parameters the jury would not give this very high. It is not very creative song and melody wise, It has its moments on stage but it is not that strong of a stage show. But vocals is very strong. It is competing with Nemo, France, Ukraine and Italy in vocals. I would put Nemo highest but she is probably after that maybe in the same place like Ukraine. France is also very good but in another kind of way.

Hi, Belarus got multiple chances to re-submit a song, but after they submitted a political song for the 2nd time, the deadline for songs submitting has passed. Israel, on the other hand, were told by the EBU they if they manage to submit a non-political song by the deadline (I think March 15 or maybe 11), then they're in - and so did happen at the end.

Eden Golan and her Dancers were amazing. Voted 3 times in the Finale for her.
The bashing of Eden was cruel and unfair. Bambie Thug (Ireland) can bring her witch show to Iran. She should take care of course.
The 2 State Solution was offered to the Arabic People from the VERY beginning. It was not Israel who rejected and dismissed this. Eden Golan was not even born when the problems started.
In Countries like Iran a Music Show like this cannot happen as women are not even allowed to perform and sing on a stage.

It's not fair to bully someone because their country is doing terrible things, it's NOT their fault! Booing and harassing Eden doesn't help the situation at all it is not her fault that Israel was allowed to compete in the first place. I hope people realize that.
I do not support Israel or the decision of letting them compete. I just don't think it's fair to dump it on Eden, the song IS GOOD.
