  • Artbeat of the City: An ongoing ethnographic documentary series about street artists and performers in Portland, Oregon
    Bruce Windham
    Violinist, guitarist and viola player
Bruce is originally from Diamond Bar, California. Bruce moved to Orgeon, after years of traveling and living in other states, to be near his family members who lived in Portland. On this day, in October of 2009. Bruce was performing in front of Powell's Bookstore. By the year 2009, he had been playing violin, guitar and viola for 45 years. "I've never had another job" said Bruce, "I made my entire living from music, so I don't intend on changing that." Bruce has played all over the United States and the world. His favorite memory was when he got to perform in the orchestra for a Moody Blues concert around 1999.
This is a single interview and moment on the street with Bruce. Prior to filming, I had heard him playing throughout Portland several times and his sound always drew me in. We spoke several times, prior to the interview, about his work and the ongoing project, Artbeat of the City. Thank you Bruce for sharing your beautiful gift with Portland.
