Highlights of the first round heats of the men's 200m event from the Olympic Stadium at the London 2012 Olympic Games (7 August 2012).
Heat winners include Usain Bolt, Yohan Blake, Christophe Lemaitre, Warren Weir, Alex Quinonez, Churandy Martina & Maurice Mitchell.
Since 1896, athletics has been on the programme of each edition of the Games of the Olympiad. Its presence on the Games programme has allowed its popularity to increase across the world. This popularity was also strengthened by the creation of the IAAF in 1912. Women's events appeared for the first time at the 1928 Olympic Games in Amsterdam, while the men's programme was standardised as of the 1932 Games in Los Angeles. Although at the beginning women were authorised to participate in only some events, today their programme is almost identical to that of the men.

God it's a joke how fast Bolt, Blake can post a 20.3 without breaking out of a jog like its the first loosen up jog at training, while everybody else is fighting for their life 3m behind them. The 200 really shows the difference even more than the 100m when the truly elite jog around like that.

yeah, the false start rule really should go back to the one false start for the entire field, then the next false start is d/q. the way it is, it puts way too much pressure on the athletes and makes the starts even more tense than they already were
It’s harsh but I think people exploited the one false start allowed to put pressure on faster starters - the one and done rule is better IMO
some false starts are embarrassing

It's funny to see everybody running as hard as they can with 40-50m to go and Bolt is literally coasting and not losing any ground. He was running a full second slower than he could so that's why it looked so easy.

Great qualifying heats. One irritating thing though was how long the starter was holding them in the set position. I have worked with many great starters and they all agree the time between set and the gun going off should be small.

Men’s 200m jogging race.
There should be 4 by 200m relays at the Olympics and at the World Championships. This would give more opportunities to athletes and garner more attendance and money for athletic promoters.
