We got the non heater model. Never considered getting the heater model because our stove is more efficient AND the additional cost. So far, so good for our Geyser.

Thanks for the honest review. Just having to rely on their specific replacement sponges would be the first no-go for me. Second thing would be the noise.

We bought a Joolca tent and the Hot Tap shower. We haven’t tried the Hot Tap yet but plan to this spring. Love the shower tent and know it is well made.

Good luck with the Hottap. We went through 3 units and got only one hot shower. We're sending it back for a refund.

Thanks Matt and Wendy for the review on the heater model! We’ve had the non-heater model for years and I love it! We did learn on our first use not to screw the top on tightly though. We did and had to have a camping neighbor (who looked like The Hulk) help us un-screw it! We’ve had ours for 2 or 3 years now.

The new cap helps that problem. Sounds like its been an issue for a bit.

Our non-heating version has worked well. The first Geyser started to leak somewhere around the base. The replacement has worked well for a full season. I can complete a shower in less than one tankful. The Best Wife Ever (hint) often requires a refill. It is our primary shower source even though we have a 7gal Road Shower. The Road Shower performs marginally during the times and latitudes we prefer to camp. Of course we still have the old analog gravity-fed solar shower. Time to pack that into the truck I guess. Sorry for your troubles Matt. Thanks for sharing.

My wife tried the Geyser at Overland Expo in Loveland, CO last year and loved it. We are on our 3rd Hottap and so far have had only one hot shower. The solenoids die fast. We lost confidence in it and will soon return it for a refund. We want the heated model Geyser so as I drive it is heating up. Lame to use the vehicle while idling to heat it, poor planning. There are also power stations available as a house battery. You can use the heating model with hot water from a stove instead of running the engine! It is duel use. Also, if you have a vacuum it will stress the pump and kill it. Reviewers on CZcams stated that well before this review was launched. His concern about sponges is silly. We've been using them with the Hottap and they last years each. Like any other sponge, just rinse and dry. I wonder if he ever does dishes! The reviewer created his own problems.

Sorry about all the issues you had with yours. I’ve really enjoyed mine, I bought the heater model initially but returned it to REI since it took way too long to heat up and bought the regular model. Doing the boil a liter method is much easier and quicker. I have had the lid suction down and mess up the flow, I now leave the lid a bit loose and it works great. I don’t think I have the new lid design on mine since I bought an early version. I don’t mind the sponge swap out, I have to keep all the other parts of the Geyser together anyway so having a couple of sponges isn’t a big deal to me.

Hi Matt and Wendy. We bought the joolca off grid setup with shower and sink. Absolutely love it. No problems in 3 years of ownership. They have quick coupling hoses and a very sturdy 12V pump that never fails. We camp at Michigan's State forest campgrounds mostly and the on demand water heater can give you unlimited hot water using Propane. I like things that just work, especially when you are far from obtaining any alternatives or parts. We are Hiker owners too. 5x10 mid range. Love it. Best of luck to you two. Hope to see you out there.

We've had only 1 hot shower from the Hottap and 3 units, 2 are replacements. We're done with them and sending it back this Saturday. They offered a refund. Three units and they can't get us a useable product. Nice customer service though.

Thanks for the info. I was not impressed with the geyser from the first time I saw it….didn’t think it was better than a sponge bath. Love the videos and honest reviews.

Great review of the product. From jump street I could see the problems and wasn’t impressed. I appreciate the honest review no matter what the repercussions. I think you should try the Camplux shower kit for around $175-$200. You’ll need to carry a little extra water but you carry everything else already. From one trailer guy to the next this is the best option and a more enjoyable shower.

Great review. I hope they sort it out. Seems to be a promising product. I am very happy with the Hiker installed hot shower and water pump/tank. Not as compact but still very reliable and HOT water every time!

I'm using the Coleman OneSource Camp Shower and an immersion water heater and it's been amazing. heats up in less than 10 minutes and the spray is good. only been using for 2 weeks though.

Rinsekit is a much better product. No experience with the heated model but the non heated unit works as it should. I went with the manual pump. No electric needed for pressure. But in all honesty nothing beats a built-in unit with a propane instant water heater behind a 12v pump. Eccotemp / ShureFlo combo makes anything else look like toys.

Yeah it’s a bad product in my experience. Broke day 1 on our trip to Death Valley, there are so many parts on it that are just flimsy plastic which is a huge flaw. After researching a bit I found that the reviews are skewed because they offer you a free sponge if you give it a 5 star review.

I actually bought this thinking it would be great when overlanding, ultimately, I returned it, even though mine worked, it was just a real mediocre experience.

I really wanted one of these, but I decided to buy a Beach Soul instead. I decided to do that because it was less expensive and draws no power. I have enough things that draw power. I have been very happy with it. I can shower with a pitcher of water. I can heat water on the stove or let the sun do the trick. Sometimes I have to stop and pump it up again, but I can live with that. Thanks for letting me know I really am not missing anything.

I have the same unit as you Matt but I heat the water in the jet broil. 1 deg a min would be good if it’s 90 deg out. Don’t put the cap on too tight. I have had no issues with mine as far as the pump
is concerned. But as Matt said I wouldn’t buy the heating model.

This is only an option for the anti- crowd. It looks like a pistol. Thus, if you pull it out, you are escalating the situation. It is not even close to a 100% assurance of stopping an individual. Not even close to the use of a firearm. Accuracy is not good.
Pistol usage is close range. If you use this with the pepper balls, your are likely to suffer from the pepper powder in the air from such close proximity to the individual.
But I totally understand, if you fear firearms and their usage, this is a possible option.

We’ve had the Geyser without the heating unit for a couple of years and really like it. No problems so far. We were warned about the cap suction so avoided that issue by leaving it on very loosely when in use. I also don’t think our pump is nearly as loud as yours which makes me wonder how that may have been a sign your pump would go bad(?)
