- Hi guys,
Mircea here from Kron Leather Goods. This is my second making-of video of a notebook leather cover (SOUND ON!! ). Now with this crazy virus outbreak we need to stay indoors so I figured it would be nice if I share something with you.
So, you have here a free downloadable pattern for this cover in the video:
bit.ly/2UcH97c
If you'd like to support my work, my Etsy shop is here:
www.etsy.com/shop/KronLeather...
The pattern is optimized for the smallest and comfortable sized cover, when closed.
It features some nice and functional curves which are pretty easy to cut using a sharp utility knife.
The leather used is from Conceria Tempesti, a vegetable tanned, full grain leather with some high content of oils and waxes which give a nice aged look when used.
I recommend going with aprox. 1.6mm leather thickness like in the video, or 2mm for the back panel and 1mm for the pockets.
If you have any questions, feedback or virtually anything, please write your comments below. I'll gladly reply back!
Hope you like it and thank you for watching!!
Best wishes,

I loved this video. I was transfixed throughout. You are a very talented man. Kudos sir. 🤗
My first ever leather project - thanks for making this such a great introduction!
That is a great thing to hear! I have several videos in the making. Hopefully I'll make myself some time to upload them. Thanks!
Really beautiful. Attention to detail is everything!
Glad you like it!
Thank you for the free pattern and great how-to video. I just created my first leather project 😊 I posted it on IG and tagged you. Now I'll try to make another one for a larger Journal cover.
Thank you as well for tagging! Great work for a first item, really!!
That was delightful to watch! Thank you!
Thank you!!
Great video & well designed Field Notes pattern. Very much appreciated.
Thanks!
Thanks for the free pattern and excellent video. I've made three of these already!
Cool! Thanks for the feedback!
Great bit of work... Both the notebook cover and the vid! Thanks!
Thanks
Thanks for the video and pattern. I look forward to seeing more in the future.

Can’t wait to make this!

Like that design👌
Thx
I got your pattern and made it. It came out great. Really enjoyed it.
That's great! Do you have it posted somewhere? Thanks!
Such a great and nice video to watch. Thanks for such a content
Thanks!
Great video and project! I really hope you will make more videos like this with other patterns that can be made by hand. Thanks for including the pattern too!
Cool! Thanks for your feedback! I have some others in the making. Are you looking for a specific item?
@@kronleather Glad to hear it! Nothing specific really. I like a wide variety and am just getting started in leather. I am a musician, artist and woodworker looking to branch out into a new medium. Thanks for the response!

A traveler's notebook cover (Wanderings, Sovereign Leather, Midori - which is now called Travelers Notebook) would be a good idea, especially considering the price of the commercial covers.
@@nigsbalchin226 great idea. I actually have some patterns made for the taller version and the passport version
Awesome, this is a Great How To Video!!
Thanks!
nicely done my friend. a very entertaining, ASMR, as well as educational video :)
Thanks!
Have everything cut out going to finish it up soon! Using a Horween leather I believe it's a bit thinner but should still go together nicely. I'm struggling to find that same looking leather here in the U.S I love the rustic look of it!
Nice. Pls share your work, so curious! This leather is from an Italian tannery. I might have it for sale soon. I ll let you know here.
Great video thank you!
Thank you!
Nice Work, Thanks.
Thanks for watching!
Came for the leather cover, stayed for the Silva!! Noroc ;)
Noroc!! 🍻🍻🍻
great video
Thanks!
Loved the idea of a wallet with a bottle opener included :)) how did you do it?
A lot of trial and error. I will have it for sale in about a week or so
Great video. What fountain pen are you using in the video?
Thank you! That's a Kaweco liliput in brass
Really like your videos!
I am about to make one of these Field Note covers, but my field note pad is measure 97x138. How much wider do I have to make the back panel?
I think you can just add those 7 to 10mm to the length of the back piece. The moleskine notebooks I used are 14x9 cm
@@kronleather Thank you for the quick response. Keep up the good work!
Great video out of interest whats the fountain pen that you use there (also it looks like a noodlers ink)
It is a Kaweco Liliput in brass. Thanks!
Thanks for sharing I think I'll make this tomorrow. 1.6mm what's that about in oz? Cheers
About 4oz. Cheers! And looking forward to see your work.
What size hole punch do you use the and thread size? Thanks for the video.
Hi, sorry for my super late reply. Didn't see the comment. I used 5mm Crimson Hides japanese irons and 332 linen thread. Hope this helps
What material do you use for the pattern? Thanks for the video. New sub!
It s cardboard used for bookbinding. Thank you!!!!!!
How did you make that cool wallet you used to open up that drink? That is sooo cool.
Thanks! I have it listed here: www.etsy.com/listing/875136955/bottle-opener-wallet-handcrafted
What size journal does this fit? I bought some that appeared to be the correct size for a similar sized notebook, but the pattern seems to be a bit small for what I have
Field notes or moleskine cahier 9x14cm. Make sure you are printing correctly
👍😉
🙌
I drink my beer when the glue dry 😉!
Yeah I also like to glue a lot of things :D
Where did you get the long ruler that you use for cutting?
Bought it locally from an office supplies shop
The perfect fit for the intended notebook that you WON'T find in a commercially produced notebook cover, much to my chagrin.
Thanks!
Really good Video. But I’m curious as to why the leather is waxed. Because other CZcamsrs either don’t use waxed leather or don’t mention it.
Me too
This was a vegetable tanned leather with a pull up effect(high content of waxes and oils) which was stored in a colder area. Because of this, the waxes migrated to the surface
I printed the pdf template but it is like the exact same size as my 3.5x5.5 notebook do you need to scale it up?
Hi, there is a check dimension there in the drawing. Please make sure that the measurement of that dimension is the same with the value there. No need to scale it up, it s 1:1 on A4 paper with no fit option
What are you material are you gluing the templates on?
That is stock cardboard
хороший стол, если не секрет что за материал лежит на столе на котором режете кожу?
It is a cutting mat that I bought years ago from Hydroma. If I recall correctly. They make all sorts of mats, this one is as big as my table 2x1m
What's that white powder on the leather? Never seen that before.
That s wax. This leather is a highly oiled and waxed type and if not used or stored those waxes migrate to the surface. It s like the bloom on bridle leather
He literally writes wax on it with his finger in the video. That should be a fairly big clue. I remember when I first saw a wax bloom on my stock whip. I thought it was mold 🤣
@@DrChattan 😂
what leather glue do you use?
I use a water based glue, Intercom Ecostick
Hi, I am very interested in the name of the leather brand or material name of this leather. If it is possible, could you please write it to me?) it looks amazing, I cannot find it anywhere.
Hi, the leather is called Baku from the tannery Tempesti in Italy. The wax on the surface appears when you store it for a longer time. Hope this helps
@@kronleather thanks to you a lot!!! I have checked, seems to be they have no online shop) Are you not going to sell some pieces on your Etsy shop?)
Did you get this leather in to sell. ?
I had some in the past, for sale, but currently no more. The article is called Baku from the Italian tannery Tempesti
Can you do one on an A5 Notebook cover?
It s in the plan. The first two videos that will come do not have that yet. But I am preparing a nice design for an A5, also some info on how to dimension the covers
@@kronleather thank you very much!
Nice work.. Do you sell them?
I can make one for you if u want. Contact me on etsy please. Kronleathergoods.etsy.com
bonjour quelle et le format du bloc note A6 ??????? MERCI JLUC
This is for 9x14cm booklets but you can resize it to fit an A6, if you just extend the limits
@@kronleather thank you very much jluc
Hi , where do I find the pattern?
Hi, there is a link in the video's description
What is the white glue you use?
It is a water based adhesive that I bought from a local shop. Similar to renia aqulium 315 or ecostick
Mircea B thanks. I've seen similar used elsewhere and wondered what it was.
What's a fountain pen?
What pen do I use? If so is a Kaweco Lilliput
Will this fit a passport ?
I think so
Wt type of cardboard is that
Stock cardboard
What the leather?
The leather I use in my video is from Conceria Tempesti in Italy. It is called article Baku, color Siena. But this leather was stored for a few months before using it, this is why the wax migrated to the surface
Tell us about that pen, please.
It s a Kaweco Liliput fountain pen in brass
I can't hear any narration. NO AUDIO?
I write better than talking, sorry
Nou ik wel 😂😂
Thanks
Does no one speak on these videos anymore?
Would you like it to?
Your pattern does not print
Hey,
I can remake the pattern using autocad If you are interested
Why? Can you detail a bit please?
Really wish you had more vids 🫤 no one has free templates anymore… at least not good ones like the two you have
Two are on the way. Unfortunately my free time for these was so scarce in the past years. Do you have any preference for an item?
@@kronleather Maybe a bic lighter sheath as something simple? But Ive made both of your designs recently and they worked out very well. Doesn’t matter what it is, mainly I just had a lot easier time working with your templates. Thanks for the response!
What did you glue the paper template onto? It looks like some kind of particle board.
@@jackieshields9875 it is stock cardboard. Any rigid, easy cutting material is good
