  • Please welcome back our beloved Pastor Princeton Parker!
We know you’ve been waiting for this, and today Princeton meets a ruthless megalomaniac - Joseph Seed, also known as "The Father" who is the main antagonist of Far Cry 5. Seed truly believes that he was chosen by God and that he was told of the coming end of the world. His goal is to protect his followers, or "children" from the coming end and lead them to "Eden's gate."
Let’s see what thoughts our pastor has on this character, and please let us know in the comments what you think about this duo.
Similar to its predecessors, Far Cry 5 is an action-adventure first-person shooter set in an open-world environment that the player can explore freely on foot or via various vehicles. Unlike previous titles in the series, where the player takes on the role of a set character, the game gives the player the opportunity to customize their character's appearance. While the player has a variety of ranged and explosive weapons to fight against enemies, the game places a renewed emphasis on close-quarters combat compared to previous Far Cry titles by introducing a wider range of melee weapons. In addition, Far Cry 5 features a new weapons ballistics system that includes elements like a bullet dropping over a distance to make it more realistic.

This cult is actually what drew me to FC5 in the first place. It's *very interesting* for me to hear a Pastor's view on this because I grew up as JW(I left). Hoo boy, was I getting some uncomfortable flashbacks in the beginning where the Pastor was describing the cult specific language. It's true, these groups do have unique terms for each other and their own coded language that outsiders aren't used to. 100% right about the elitism & fear. I get a kick out of groups that say "we are the true religion and only way to salvation".

I’d say not just as a Christian but as a person, fight for a sure and firm hold on who God is. My line of thinking with that is that it would be such a waste to miss such an opportunity because you never know. Christianity for many is the most fulfilling venture of their lives. Don’t let your mother’s possible misrepresentation hold you back from what could be the best thing to happen to you. If after all that, you don’t come to believe in Jesus. The intro is one of the best video game introductions I’ve ever played imo because while Joseph is preaching to the sheriff, deputy, and the Marshall before getting arrested, he says “and behold a white horse” and the sheriff on the right has the last name of Whitehorse, and then he says “and Hell followed with him” as he looks directly at you, who inevitably tears his whole organization to the ground.
And then eventually he’s proven right because the world does end and the nukes do drop. You can also hear on the (non-cult) radio throughout the game that international relations are not doing well and that the world is really unstable. I love Far Cry 5 so much.

Jesus DID say: "The world is very evil." Also, "don't be of the world." Also, "He who is not with me, will be against me." But he also said: "go and tell all nations."
He NEVER SAID: "We are the nation. We're already big enough. Anyone who hasn't joined by now, unless I say otherwise, assume is the enemy. Take from them as you see fit."
So that's where Joseph Seed most definitely crosses the line.

And the meaning of “don’t be of the world” the the solution to that don’t be too attached to this world enjoy it trough the good and the bad and be thankful because we were born with nothing and will go back with nothing except our deed, may God we with us through out life my brother! Matthew 23:1-9 “Then Jesus spoke to the crowds and to his disciples, saying, ‘The scribes and the Pharisees have taken their seat on the chair of Moses. Therefore, do and observe all things whatsoever they tell you, but do not follow their example. For they preach but they do not practice. They tie up heavy burdens [hard to carry] and lay them on people’s shoulders, but they will not lift a finger to move them. All their works are performed to be seen. They widen their phylacteries and lengthen their tassels. They love places of honor at banquets, seats of honor in synagogues, greetings in marketplaces, and the salutation ‘Rabbi.’ As for you, do not be called ‘Rabbi.’ You have but one teacher, and you are all brothers.
Call no one on earth your father; you have but one Father in heaven.”
what Jesus was saying was that he was condemning the pride and hypocrisy of the Pharisees of his time because they were teaching people many rules but not practicing these teachings themselves. They were showing off with titles of Honor such as teacher to exalt themselves those who teach God's laws must do so with humility and not put themselves above God in short. Jesus did not mean for us to literally avoid calling people father or teacher further evidence of this is shown in scriptures when Paul refers to our Father Isaac in Romans chapter 9 verse 10. Also Stephen makes use of the word father by stating our father Abraham Acts chapter 7 verse 2

@@jeseelopez6667 Alternatively, interpret the meaning of 'father' as 'creator' or 'maker', and have a much more accurate understanding of what was meant, going right back to false idolatry and the commandment against it.
Calling someone 'father' is basically and acknowledgement to yourself being in a 'lesser' position in the context at hand. In the case of clergy, calling them 'father' is a reference to their supposed greater wisdom and understanding of the lord, not anything more than that, referring back to their role as a teacher to their 'fliock' as it were.
People taking the wording in the bible literally makes me quite annoyed. We KNOW the bible has been translated (and re-translated based on that initial one, and so on and so forth) after it's original writing MULTIPLE times. The words do not exactly match up, so taking them literally is silliness. Same with the 'bible is the direct word of god' silliness. It is EXPLICITLY written by other people, talking of the acts of the biblical figures. With that comes some level of personal bias to the takeaways from what occurred, and the presentation of events. That is not to say there was any insincerity in such recollections, but that it is not 'from the horse's mouth', as the saying goes.
On a side note, the strict adherence to the words of the bible (also the church in general) as an immutable truth sort of branches into idolatry, and involves ignoring many of the lessons of the new testament entirely.

"When the Lamb opened the first seal, I heard a voice as if were the noise of thunder saying come and see, and I looked and I saw a white horse and Hell followed with Him." The line was a nod towards the real scripture because in the game, your boss the Sherriff of Hope County was named Whitehorse and the Hell that followed him was the Player, and that they would bring destruction and fire to the cult.

Religion has been VERY influential and controlling in the past, and for people that escaped the more extreme groups it can be difficult to “give an inch”, considering how damaging religious control has been.
It’ll balance itself out in the future where religion won’t be seen as such a dangerous rabbit hole and these public spaces will be easier on religious-based discussion, but being wary of groups that still have power and are extremely influential isn’t “phobic”.

Religion isn’t difficult to understand; in fact it’s fairly simple. The type of people that are so anti-religion usually come from households where religion was used as a means of control. Lots of pain comes attached to that, so dismissing it as “you just don’t get it” is extremely reductive and comes off like you’re speaking in bad faith (pun intended).

Yo i LOVE Parker man. As a black man and a baptist (which is the same territory he is) he hits so many things that are related to me. His insights are great. He really is just teaching about things. Also that little run he did with “Amazing Grace” was perfect. GAMEOLOGY PLEASE KEEP BRINGING PARKER BACK.

Here is why Joseph seed is one of my favorite villains, in the next chapter he comes to terms with
the wrongs he has done, and asks you to kill him
I did, and I had no hate for him when I did it. Felt like a mercy kill.

In the end Joseph Seed was right. However ... he truly set to save as as many people as possible based on his visions which he translated as a message from god. He became increasingly frustrated because nobody was taking him seriously. That is why he used the Bliss to make people follow him to the shelter.
He went about it all the wrong way and became percieved as evil. When his initial intentions were not. He only fought to protect his bunker when outsiders arrived to destroy his safe haven. He truly saw law enforcement and the local police as evil because they were condemning people to suffer from what his visions told him was coming.

I.e. A Priest discovers most modern gaming world and movies have emotionally complex and human villains to ramp up the realism, awe and strike a chord with the audience and eventually make it more likeable and interesting hence driving up the sales.
Don't get me wrong though, traditional non-Machiavellian villians do still exists in straight forward action games.
