  • Steve and Ian respond to a listener wondering whether Ty Segall would be more popular if he had existed in a different musical era. If he had started releasing albums in the '70s alongside the Grateful Dead and Jefferson Airplane, would Segall be headlining arenas today? Or is he exactly as big as he wants to be, alongside contemporaries like Kurt Vile, Wavves, Cloud Nothings, and more?

What classic bands do you think Ty Segall's music would fit well with?

      The Kinks...The Cramps

The Kinks could definitely work…I think late 90s early 00s when you had garage rock/blues poppin’ off via black keys and the white stripes would’ve been perfect timing…btw he is underestimated as a live performer and his band is bigger than the oh sees to my understanding, although the oh sees directly influenced Ty

I can imagine him opening for AC/DC and then stealing a ton of their fans who liked a bit more variety in their music, but have to rock out.

Ty would have been a second or third billed band in the late sixties/early seventies... I'm 69 years old, saw the Dead, Quicksilver, the Airplane, Santana, etc. and saw Ty at the Belly up in SD a couple years ago. He's quirky, eccentric, and he rocks! As to where he "wants to be"; you got it right... so get a grip, wannabe "commentators/critics": He's playing his music, selling out venues, and touring whenever he wants... unlike you KOOKS, who are constantly worried about your status/relevance... and for good reason!

They literally say as much around 3:45, so I think they get it. This is also a viewer submitted question, they're just shootin the shit over it. Some weird kind of defensiveness on your part here

He has turned down big offers since Manipulator he just wants to do things himself with trusted musicians and specific recording style he stays hungry for the value of his work
