You will have a better imprint from the onion, if you let it dry out a bit first. the rings will show up better. have you tried Masa paper? you crinkle it and use water color, or perhaps very diluted acrylic, If you crumple, crinkle the paper, it breaks the sizing, and looks like batik when dry (( I have used watercolor with great results, but not applied thinned acrylic)) but if you use transparent colors will look beautiful and I will have to try the banana pepper, first to roll it like you did the corn, whole, uncut, the make different cuts for sizes. This cracks me up, for as soon as I hit comment, I think of more ideas. LOL Cut the corn off of the cob, let the cob partially or near completely dry out, then try for that print. woo hoo
Oh goodness, an artist after my own experimental heart! I actually screenshotted your inspirations for a future play session. I just may need a part two of this video.
I was immediately encouraged to sacrifice some fruits and veggies right after your video. My best results were from lemons and broccoli; the latter makes marvelous, irregular dots.
@@catrains.artist I’ve started to look at everything to see what kind of print it could create! Ha. Lately I’ve been attracted to patterns on placemats - their patterns work great with and without using a Gelli plate. They give me a really nice overall pattern. The fruits and veggies would give me a nice contrasting pattern! My list of types of papers to make keeps growing! Thanks for continually inspiring me and encouraging me to play like I’m a kid again. 😊
Hi Catherine, thank you for this great exercise. I can't wait to have fun. Are you going to feature a video where you use these vegetable collage print sheets? I would love to see what you would do. Thank you for introducing me to the art of collage. It's very nice to do it with you . 🤩🙏🏻 Merci
So glad that you enjoyed this art demo. Yes, after I create 5 different types of collage papers (this is number 4), I'll do a demo of how I put all 5 into one collage. I've already done this with 4 other sets of papers, in 4 videos.
Loved the endive, small pepper and the corn ❤ I remember doing potatoes and apples when I was a kid, but this is really elevating the veg painting process. Thanks for sharing!😊
You must have read my mind! I recently used celery to make mono prints and it turned out to be one of my MOST favorite collage papers. I made a note to myself to try different veggies and suddenly, there was your video! Love how your papers turned out!
Funny I was going to try celery too, but ran out of creative gas by the time I got to it. Now I have extra celery to eat instead! Hope you have fun experimenting with other veggies. So fun!
That was a fun video. Thanks! I have an idea: if you put your paper on top of a couple paper towels or on a gel plate when you print you might get more even prints even when the veg is not cut perfectly - there would be more "give" in your surface.
Lots of fun.. I used what I had which was only a lemon and an apple.. but I'll give it another go because I want to try a pear, fennel & endive. I posted what I did on IG...I need the touch of gold...
I thought I'd better try what I suggested, so I sliced an onion in several different places, and let it "dry" out HA ha! almost turned to mush, but I did get a few (half page) good impreints, I found the apple boring *LOL* The corn, I took a corncob and let it dry, not to bad, interesting marks. I thought well break it in half maybe get a floral/sunflower print, but it is hard to slice evenly. and the paint needs to be thicker? Maybe mix with some gel medium. I've got a whole corn out to dry out, I had nothing but a mess with the lemon. *LOL* Now just waiting for stuff to dry. I forgot to get the pepper. I liked that one you did. not so sure I want to mess with wet or dry corn silks.
Ahhh another mad art experimenter after my own heart! I'm impressed that you kept at it, even when some of the prints weren't what you expected. Guess not all apples are created equal!
Thank you for the inspiration. I'm always fascinated with your creativity, but now I have a concern: What happens with the prints after time? Would the organic quality of the things used to print end in decay of the paper?
Thanks for the positive feedback. I use the same two primaries for my demos because then all of the papers I create will easily go together in a collage. Maybe I'll switch to warm colors sometime, we'll see where I feel inspired!
The lemon prints call to mind the 'sandbag' prints I learned from you, and loved!
Oh yes! Love those!
Ahhh, yes it does look like those!

What a fun video! I love all your demos and cheerful experimentation!
Awww thank you, what a loving thing to say!
I was immediately encouraged to sacrifice some fruits and veggies right after your video. My best results were from lemons and broccoli; the latter makes marvelous, irregular dots.
Ohhhh brocoli, what a fabulous idea. Never even considered this veggie! Thanks for sharing your experiments.
FUN! FUN! FUN! Looks like I’m headed to the grocery store for some fruits and vegetables today. Ha!
This will most likely change your experience of shopping for produce! Now I look at everything for what type of print it could create. Enjoy!

@@maryorr467 I'm looking at everything in the same way! So lovely to be walking this creative path together.
Fantastic video Catherine 😊 thanks so much. So much fun to watch…will definitely be trying this…on the way to raid my fridge…🍎🍉🍋🥒🥑🥔😂
Love that you are about to raid the fridge for art supplies. Exactly what I did, and then the grocery store too! Enjoy!!!
Interesting experiments. I love that corn cob paper!
And the onion paper!
Oh me too, and so easy to create!
Onion was cool too, other than the smell on my hands!
Thank you!😊
Thank you!
Very cool!
Thank you!

Excellente nouvelle!!!🤩😍
J’ai bien hâte de les regarder. Ce sera sur CZcams sur votre page , Catherine Rains?
@@guylainedube5619 Yes! I'll do this sometime in August.
Thanks for doing this for us. I love it just sitting back with no messy fingers!
Yes the messy fingers was a pain. Needed a new manicure right after!
Loved the endive, small pepper and the corn ❤ I remember doing potatoes and apples when I was a kid, but this is really elevating the veg painting process. Thanks for sharing!😊
Thanks so much for watching Susie! I never did this as a child, so was a whole new experience, and loved it.
Truly surprising and inspiring!
You're so kind!

Thanks for sharing! I saw that artist on IG too! I really love that you used the corn and mixed the gold and the teal. Nice!
Love what the other artist does with this too. Thanks so much for the positive feedback!
Love this organic mono printing. Thank you for sharing
So glad that this resonates with you!
Absolutely loved this! Endive is my favorite, but I like all of them.
Endive is my absolute fave as well!
Wow these look amazing!!! I'm thinking on canvas in the kitchen as a little series! I love it, thank U Catherine!!❤️
Ohhh that would be beautiful!
This was fabulous Catherine! Can't wait to try. Thank you for sharing ❤

That looked like a lot of fun. I must try it. Thank you Catherine😊
It is sooooo much fun! Hope you try it.
The endive ones 😍😍😍
@@amivbg Totally agree!
Wonderful video. Great prints ❤
Thanks so much!
I've got some celery that I was going to throw out. I think I will try printing with it first. Thanks for the fun veggie session.
I wish I had tried the celery as well. Just ran out of creative steam the day I filmed this. Enjoy experimenting!

So glad you enjoyed this Emily. The endive was my personal fave!
very fun

Thanks so very much for watching, AND subscribing!
In my graphic designer days, we used to cut out shapes in potatoes to make stamps.
Oh that is a brilliant idea, with so many possibilities!

Use the corn on the Cobb stick in holders and the gel plate as a palette. It’s easier and you get the mono print and the gel print
GREAT idea!
Fun!
SOOOOOO much fun!
Great technique. Question, do the papers maintain the smell of the vegetables? Most concerned about the onion!
They don't smell to me. Hope you have fun with this!
If you put something under your paper that is soft, like paper towel, you may get a better image.
Very good suggestion. Wish you had been with me when I was creating these!
Thank you for the inspiration. I'm always fascinated with your creativity, but now I have a concern: What happens with the prints after time? Would the organic quality of the things used to print end in decay of the paper?
There is always that chance, however I will embed any paper used in a collage with matte medium on both sides, and top it with UV varnish and wax.
@@catrains.artist Sounds like a good idea. Thank you very much for your answer.
If you do not mind, what are your color palette names that you are using?
Don't mind at all! Phythalo Blue green shade, Hansa Yellow Light, and Quin Majenta, plus black and white.
Thank you
Love your videos but please use other color conbinations.
Thanks for the positive feedback. I use the same two primaries for my demos because then all of the papers I create will easily go together in a collage. Maybe I'll switch to warm colors sometime, we'll see where I feel inspired!
The prints are beautiful, but I cringe at the use of food. however, I do have a clementine desiccating in my fridge, so...
Sounds like that clementine is waiting to be turned into art!
