I'll never forget hearing this album for the first time in my teens in the late '90s. Sitting in the livingroom of my mom's place with the girl of my dreams. She made a point of playing me this song. This is just one of a multitude of awesome projects she introduced me to back then. Ministry, Aphex Twin, Xorcist, Dead Can Dance, Carl Orff's Carmina Burana. Strange how time flies but some emotions will always remain. Thanks, Barby. I'll always fondly remember you and our time together.
I'd love this to be released today, it would wipe everything off the charts because this is beauty, this is real talent and exceptional singing without an autotune in sight.
I am fortunate to have all three TMC Albums, after searching for years, I came across all three in a record store; love every track. Those were rich times indeed for alternative Music.
One aspect of This Mortal Coil that many are unaware of is that the songs are covers. (Even some by other 4AD artists.) Gems one and all. Thanks to Ivo Watts-Russell for choosing to use artists playing actual strings and not synthesizers to add to the depth (and perhaps more melancholic) heartfelt sound. Such an awesome use of talent.
I bought this album after getting It'll End in Tears just for the Cocteau Twins song and seeing Simon Raymond's name all over it, and was pleasantly surprised with the rest, especially this (these two) track(s).
