For all of those wondering why someone would pluck their eyelashes: there could be many things going on but the first thing that came to mind is trichotillomania, a case of OCD where people pluck their hair/eyebrows/eyelashes as a way to soothe themselves.

@@snek3gg Respectfully, I don’t think they’re alike at all or would see how they would be mixed up together. “Trichotillomania” is more “Dopamine regulation” and they don’t have any “intrusive thoughts” as you said, nor do they have that “annoyance” feeling simply because of the pattern. People often do it for stress, boredom, or etc. However, people with OCD can’t control themselves at all when it comes to such behavior and don’t even realize what they’re doing

I started plucking my eyelashes out when i was 13, 22 now. Got so bad, I'd start actually ripping skin and bleed. Started when i was being abused. Found out i have trichotillmania. Luckily, i got it somewhat controlled and don't pull my eyelashes out as much, and they grow back pretty full, thankfully.

With the eye lashes tho it hurts at first but then after doing it so much you just get used to it and become numb to the pain. at some point it feels good but not because you like the pain but you like the relief you feel after plucking the eyelash out. When you have tricho you feel a disturbance in an area similar to an itch and you want to do whatever you can to get rid of that. Thankfully I haven’t plucked for years now so my case is better than most. There’s people who go years to decades with this mental illness and end up being bald in their scalps eyes and faces for men
I used to have this thing where I would pull out my eyelashes one by one. It was a habit and after 2 years of doing it I wouldn't notice it anymore. After 8 years of doing I realized how bad it was and started to try to break the habit. Luckily I did and healed my eyelashes. If I hadn't stopped I would have ended up with the full on hair picking disorder. Trust me if you are doing this try to stop it damges a lot and gets out of hand. If you can't stop by yourself have someone help you with it.
As a person who is pulling hair for over 9 years I agree. Hair took longer to grow and they are getting thinner and thinner... For all my trichotillomania fellows, seek help. Go to the therapy, psychologist or psychiatrist, you are pulling your hair bc of anxiety, trauma, mental pain etc. Also I recommend fidget toys to keep both hands busy, oils that help with lashes growth (2 in 1, they grow faster and lashes are too oily to pluck them by hand) and try to meditate and/or do breathing exercises when your anxiety levels are too high
My great grandma had to pluck her eilashes, because some of them would grow in the wrong direction and poke her eyes. She did it herself with tweezers, a mirror and a girlboss attitude.

Once I plucked all the eyelashes on my right eye. I’m glad I didn’t totally destroy the roots but it took a long time to regrow. The eyelashes are still significantly weaker and a bit shorter than the ones on my left eye. It hurt so bad the next day. It was sore like a bruise.

My top lashes (right eye) were ripped off on accident once when i was using an eyelash curler to curl it before applying mascara. I lost grip while still squeezing the handle and when the curler twisted out of my hand, it pulled the entire top lash off. Yes there was a sudden sting/pain. I had no right lashes for weeks. Thank god it grew back slowly but surely
I never pluck my eyelashes but I did have to do it once because it literally curved in a way where it was inside and touching my eye and was super uncomfortable. I would of used scissors, but it was bent at the route I believe

Yep. It can be just a bad habit for some people; for others it crosses the line the pathological behavior. It's pretty common in OCD, but not exclusive to it.
It's called trichotillomania. I've had it for more than a decade and I have bald eyes and eyebrows. I've had to shave my hair at one point too cuz I was just balding myself. It's no fun and yet you can't stop doing it
Eyelashes have to be the ultimate double-edge sword. Protects the eye from irritants, but easily becomes one of the worst irritants. Sometimes I have to pluck them too, because they either grow downward into my eye or my eye is itchy which seems to be indicative of an eyelash shedding, because everytime I have a persistent eye-itch, even when I gently pull on my eyelashes, at least one comes out, with absolutely no effort.

Yep. It can be just a bad habit for some people; for others it crosses the line the pathological behavior. It's pretty common in OCD, but not exclusive to it.
It's called trichotillomania. I've had it for more than a decade and I have bald eyes and eyebrows. I've had to shave my hair at one point too cuz I was just balding myself. It's no fun and yet you can't stop doing it

Eyelashes have to be the ultimate double-edge sword.
Protects the eye from irritants, but easily becomes one of the worst irritants.
Sometimes I have to pluck them too, because they either grow downward into my eye or my eye is itchy which seems to be indicative of an eyelash shedding, because everytime I have a persistent eye-itch, even when I gently pull on my eyelashes, at least one comes out, with absolutely no effort.
When I was little, I don't know what I saw on the internet, but I cut my eyelashes 💀💀
