Currently in Cuba. So no way to take out American money not even at the airport ? And what if I use my card at the airport for Cuban money is it possible. Running out of money here in Havana
We are going to Cuba and I read online that only international credit cards that are Visa’s work. We have one from US Bank, and I called them and they said no problem in Cuba, and no transaction fees, but you need to create a PIN. Well, we’ll see-it’s a back up if we find a place we could use it if we are short on cash.
to my knowledge cc issued in the usa will NOT work in cuba, then anyway you are going to get the government rate of 120 pesos to the dollar as a controlled exchange versus 350 pesos if you simply do bring enough cash and change safely on the street. whats your aversion to cash? yes, you need to bring more cash with you than you might use home in the usa. credit c ards issued in the EU and other countries will work, including Canada. I personally would not use cc n Cuba as yu will only get the 120 pesos rate versus the 350 pesos street rate for cash. also this applies to debit cards and also your regular ATM cards. What would you possbly want to buy in Cuba?Souvenirs cost pennies and the cost of food is exorbitant and hard to find. Remember that their hygiene is extremely poor iin Cuba and many get sick in Cuba. You must not drink the water at all, even for toothbrushing. Use the Camauey bottled water brand which is very tasty and safe. Good Luck, RM with decades of tourism experience in Cuba
@Curtis Kleebaum Yes it's very easy too you can do it at the front desk, airport. Honestly tho it's not worth while as most stores don't take local currency only credit cards.

Canadian credit cards work in cuba and are accepted at most government stores or dollar stores.
Were you able to convert Canadian dollars?
@Curtis Kleebaum Yes it's very easy too you can do it at the front desk, airport. Honestly tho it's not worth while as most stores don't take local currency only credit cards.
I read that one can buy a Cuban Credit Card at a US airport after you check in.. true?
We're not aware of anything like that being offered.

We had no issues and didn't feel unsafe. But we recommend being careful and don't try it if you feel concerned.
