Beautiful views of the lowlands, the Laguna de Bay, and the distant mountains may be seen from the cemetery's location. During World War II, the region was a tranquil place where you could walk about and reflect on the lives of the troops who sacrificed. You can't help but think about how pointless war has been in the presence of so many gravestones and memorials.
At 152 acres, the Manila American Cemetery and Memorial in the Philippines is one of the most notable landmarks in the city. There are 17,191 US soldier burials here, the majority of whom died during operations in New Guinea and the Philippines, making it the site with the most WWII US military graves. 570 Filipinos who served with American troops are among the victims.
Sculpture and mosaic adorn the white brick church, which is in the cemetery's heart. Two enormous hemicycles sit on a spacious patio in front of it. Twenty-five mosaic maps commemorate the American military's victories in the Pacific, China, India, and Burma, as well as in the Middle East and Europe. The Tablets of the Missing, with 36,286 names, are engraved on rectangular Trani limestone pillars within the hemicycles.
In this cemetery, the headstones are arranged in a neat and orderly fashion. As they are nestled among an assortment of tropical plants and trees, they make an overall circular design.
That’s it for today, keep watching my manila vlog. I’m pretty sure Manila will surprise you, too and let me know your thoughts in the comments.

That cemetery use to be filled with Japanese and American tourists by the bus loads in the 1970s and the early 80s. Not anymore most of the tourists where military Veterans who fought in the Philippines. I visited back in 1970 as a child nice to see it well maintained, as a retired U.S. Army veteran I say thanks for posting.
Yeah, these days most people seem to forget about those places. I'm really glad I decided to go there. It is a sad place but beautifully maintained and a nice escape from the busy Manila. I hope more people will find the way to this cemetery, especially in uncertain times like this. Thank you for watching. 👍
This is insane. Metro Manila has a population of around 12 million people, and yet you are here all by yourself.
Yes, I was shocked as well.
Well done Robbie! I enjoyed watching this video & you shared the history very well - I learned a lot from this video! I agree with you - more people should visit places like this
Thank you so much for watching guys.😁 I hope you both are doing well. ❤️
To be honest with you, I really don't like Grab but otherwise a great video.👍
Yeah, I totally understand you. In the beginning it was working really well, but by the end of my trip it was so frustrating to use. Didn't found any alternative tho...☹
Great video!😁I love your Philippine series.
Thank you so much. 😁👍

Man. This is sombre
Yeah, it is mate and being there all alone made that feeling even stronger.
In memory of CPL Marcelino D. Serrano,Battery “A” 86th Field Artillery Battalion, U.S. Army- died in a POW camp, buried in a mass grave. So grateful that his name is etched on WALL OF THE MISSING, American Cemetery. Thank you Grandpa
May he rest in peace. 🙏
Thanks for posting. I was a little girl then moving from place to place escaping where the fighting was while my father was a guerrilla.
Thank you for watching. I really appreciate it.🙂 I hope you don't have too much bad memories from that time you were moving from place to place.
My grandfather was an army, he fought at WWII along side with the Americans. He was in his 20’s. He was one of those who died at the Bataan Death March. My mom was born during the war and He didn’t get the chance to meet her. 😢😢😢
Really sad story, JC.😔 Thank you for sharing. Let’s hope we never have another WW again... Unfortunately, if you see what is happening lately around the world, it seems we still haven't learned our lesson.
Robbie, was it easy to visit this place? No special regulations?
It was fine.😁 I just had to wear my mask at any time and show my passport to register at the entrance gate. 😉
I salute all the American soldiers who fought for freedom of this country.
That is great! ❤️ 🇵🇭
robbie..have u been to luneta park???
Yes I did. It's my next video. 😉👍
Its so hard to breathe wearing masks especially to country that only have wet and dry seasons ,
Yeah, it was such a terrible time... I'm glad most of those days are behind us now.😉
Remove your mask
Yeah, they told me to wear it on the cemetery. So what can I do... Get kicked out?😅
