Hey Everyone, It's Gal in 2021 :) As Philippe Perrin pointed out in a comment below (thank you by the way!) make sure the Clone Stamp Tool brush has a hardness of 100%. In the video I made a mistake and it was set at 26% hardness which causes some blur on the image taking away the original res. So be sure to set that hardness to 100% and then the result will be even better.
love your passion for your work.
Glad to see you keep updating the vid, hope you know you helped many people make their relatives happy keep it up
Hey! So when I'm clicking on Image adjustment, the black and white option is greyed out even though I have converted the Image to Smart object and I have selected the correct Layer
I can't thank you enough for this tutorial. My mom cried when I restored my grandparents' photo for mother's day as a gift.
Could you help me too, I am trying but it's not giving the results.
Awesome
🙂❤️❤️❤️
@@smilydvn5203 how did it work? Did you keep trying or gave up on it?
@@itzame2127 I tried several times but it didn't work out for me

I associate the Fedora with Aspergers, but you seem to have an appreciation for 1940s style of dressing.
I want to thank you for your video, but I'd like to point out that any repair work that you do should be about preserving everything that's already okay.
A smaller stamp tool brush, the healing tool... both these things should be used rather than cutting entire sections to copy and paste. While it saves time, it's not taking care to preserve.
what kinda brush are you using ma'am

Hi priere gal can i have the photo i want it for my practise plss
This was a great tutorial! Very informative and helpful! I'm wanting to restire an old black and white photo for my mom, and with this new knowledge I feel much more confident and have a better odea in how to tackle it! I wish all tutorials were like this! You've got a like and new subscriber!
Thank you Premiere Gal :)

Hi all! Thanks for commenting and watching :) What other tutorials in Photoshop would you want me to do? I'd love to know! Comment :)
Hi Gal.... your video in Photoshop is amazing. Maybe more on restoring old photos etc. Keep up the good work :-) They are so easy to follow and you make it sound so easy. Love your work
I love your videos and it's inspiring... I would appreciate if you can make videos on how to create a cartoon and fire effects. thanks
Hi, perhaps I should look to see if you've covered this previously, but I'd like to see other uses you've found for the various blend modes and how to drop out a color like a Chrome-a-key or blue screen... thanks.
Difference is night and day, thank you so much for the upload. Very informative, not just one of those speedy videos with no voiceover!
your tutorials are some of the best I've seen. You keep a great pace, show close-ups of the tools as you use them, speak slowly and clearly, explain everything you do and why - five stars all the way around. Thank you so much!! I'm now subscribed to your channel.
wow, thanks candace!!
I finally got to restore my grandmothers photo of when she was 1 yr old using this tutorial. Thanks , this was very helpful.
Nice. I never thought of using the solid colour and inverted mask to combine different coloured elements over one whole picture. Excellent.
When I try to paint with a brush on the mask, it doesn’t show up, please help! I’m trying to restore an old photograph of my father to use for his funeral
@@estherobodomechine9599 Always remember:
Black hides & white shows.
And paint on the Mask and not on the layer.
I stumbled upon your channel by accident. Wow, am I glad I did. You explain your video techniques thoroughly and at a reasonable pace. You talk at just the right speed so the viewer can completely understand you concepts. To many others experts in your field talk way to fast, but you are refreshingly different from the rest out there. Thanks for your great videos.
Love how you explain and speak! Smooth voice for tutorials
Awesome. I just tried some of the techniques that you showed and I’m really happy! One more subscriber
I don't usually comment on vids but you did a VERY good job explaining this process!! You are the real MVP
Fantastic video! i watched a few colorize/photo restoration videos before this one. They were all helpful, but your method by far is my favorite. Even though it takes way longer, your after pic looks way more natural and less cartoony than the other methods.
Be careful, when you use the clone stamp tool with a brush that's got a 26% hardness, you're degrading the texture ... You're adding blur to the image ...
I was going to say the same thing...
Philippe Perrin, what do you recommend is done instead?
@@bakedutah8411 When using the clone stamp always put the hardness to 100% percent so that the algorithm properly blends your texture to the surroundings :)
@@bakedutah8411 for scratches i often use Spot Healing brush
Shes an amateur that would rather sacrifice detail and original photo content for making it modernn. This is not "repair" or restoration, but "replacement." Just ugh.
Nicely done! I've restored many older photos and THIS would've been super helpful! I don't colorize, though. I just kept them all black and white, increasing contrast, etc. to make it crisp. Your tutorial taught me so much!!! I mean, even about some of the layers!
this is a great explanation. So much simpler than I thought! I already retouched a photo of my wife's grandparents. Thanks!
Dang girl. You bossin it with this tutorial. I cannot wait to follow this tutorial myself to restore old family photos.
I like your style. Straight to the point and easy to follow unlike some of the tutorials on here! I feel confident to tackle PS, (which I do not use!) on some of my old photos when making my family tree. Your Prem Pro tutorials are also just the ticket. Thank you.
Thanks for this. I just came into a copy of grandmother in 1910 with her 8 small children and colorizing it will be nice gift to my siblings.
thank you so much! I have colorized my picture of my grandfather near Stalingrad with your help!
Great Photoshop CC tutorial on restoring an old photo, simple clear explanations of the menus, panels, tools, options, etc...
Good tutorial, a little time consuming. When I need the results quickly I do it with Pixbim Object Remover AI and to colorize Color Surprise AI, works in a single click and gives results in seconds.
Amazing tutorial! i am just starting to learn photoshop and i can't wait to put this tutorial into practice restoring some old family pictures!
How are you doing with Photoshop now?
so glad to have found you after an interview with Think Media! Awesome stuff. Thanks!!!
Thank you for the awesome tutorial! It was detailed and you did a fabulous job explaining everything! The best I have seen in this category! Super Great!
Thank you so much for the effort of putting this amazing tutorial together. Even for a man who thinks 'Atari' Combat tanks is still cutting edge, you have helped me make many relatives happy with my ham fisted CC skills in improving old photos :)
I really like the way you demonstrate the step by step procedure of how to restore the old picture.
Thanks .....Mar
Excellent video, thanks for your time in putting this together.
Thank you, I followed every step and it worked perfectly!
I have a somewhat wild story regarding this topic... When I lived in Crown Heights in Brooklyn a few years back there was a old school photo and print studio. I would pass by it everyday. I would pop in here and there and see if they ever needed help with anything. One day the owner gave me this extremely old print and asked what I could do... We scanned it in and luckily I was able to work some magic... Pretty crazy how powerful Photoshop is haha. Great video!
It's so amazing about how I've been doing most of the edits you have done on Microsoft paint for years. Never used Photoshop or anything before. I'm a master of Microsoft paint
Excellent! Thanks for the tips and tricks on this topic, concise and to the point. The music is great and I love your hat!
This is a great technique. Thank you for the Tutorial.
Thanks, great video. I really like that you proceed at a reasonable pace and the BG music is much better than most. Very instructive! Thanks
I will rescan my old photos and restore them using your technique. I can’t wait to start!
❤️ Shirley
Wow. I'm just learning how to do the coloring of b&w photos. Thanks for showing me what you know
kids do that in elementary school.
Rick Terscale , kids do it with crayons, not Photoshop. Don't be rude.
New subscriber here, I found you through your stop motion video now I have to watch everything!!!! Thank you so much for being so knowledgeable and personable! Love it. Sending all the Likes.
Love the simple way you teach. Thank you.
perfect, that I just needed. excellent performance
thank you so much to share your knowledge! I restore one old family picture and I make my mom and aunties so happy!
Thanks a lot Gal now i can fix pics of my grandma and grandpa 😊
I've watched this so many times. I just love it. Have you done any more like this?
Very nice. When you're painting and the brush tool is selected, you can hit the bracket keys to quickly change the size of the brush larger and smaller. [ = smaller. ] = larger.
Amazing! i just did my first try using your tutorial and it turned out amazing! thank you!
Excellent work! I restore old books for the government in Canada. love your stuff!
Great techniques. Unbelievable results. Thanks for making the video.
Hey Gal thanks for the tutorial its was very easy to follow, i am pretty much a beginner at this stuff and hope to get better as i go along
Woow, I def have to practice this. I am in the midst of advancing myself with these images. now I am adding color to mastering my retouching. i love this teaching. thank you
You deserve like, you deserve comments , this the easiest tutorial I ever watched 😍
Thank you for this very useful video. A tutorial exactly what I need just now. It is good of you to share your knowledge.
I just found an old picture of my grandma from when she was 14 and I can't wait to try it.

Wow it's really useful tutorial for beginners... thank you ma'am
I truly enjoyed the tutorial, it was very helpful. Thank you!
So glad I found your channel!!
Such a great tutorial 😱😱
I enjoyed your video. I've never used patch before, just cloning everything, so that's new for me.
I'm restoring an old picture for a friend and it's very washed out, so here goes.
Just watched this a few times & it's given me an idea to try colourise an old photo of my mother and her sister as children. My aunt passed away in 2000 & thought it maybe a nice gift for her for the New Year. Thanks for the tips!
thats amazing, please share your work :-)
@@PremiereGal Thank you again for this tutorial. Just spend today giving it my first go at colourising a photo of my Grandfather in his Royal Scots Guards Uniform. www.davejay.co.uk/images/gallery/colourised.jpg I'm pretty happy with the result, thanks to your tips. Will be saving this video in my bookmarks! (Looks way over saturated in Firefox for some reason, but Safari it looks great!)

Thanks, Steven! Keep watching and feel free to make requests :) I make new tutorials and vids every week. x
love at first sight
a sympathetic grandfather
- and thanks for showing this work - I'll do it with my family-
Thanks for this. Really helped me get a start on restoring my old photos. 😁
Quick tip to change hardness and size of your brush... Hold control and option then drag your brush up or down to change the hardness/softness and drag left or right to change the size of your brush.
Thanks for the tip Julian!
On PC: Alt + press and hold right button
You can also use the open and close brackets on a Windows for that.
llol the whole time you were talking on this video i kept imagining your grandpa saying it
thank you so much for this video, ill use these skills i've learned to restore peoples pics!
Really helpful! Thanks a lot!!
Hey Gal, thanks for your video, big fan of yours...
Excelente tutorial, muy bien explicado !!! Gracias por compartir tus conocimientos. Saludos desde Colombia.
Nice work. I usually try and find a color photo of the subject and use drop tool to grab their skin colors, etc hope that helps👋🏼🙂
Not a bad idea! I didn't have a color photo of him around that age. Definitely a good tip!
If I do not have a color photo of grandparents, then, I find a color photo of their offspring approx the same age as in the photo. Not perfect, but is close.
photovi thanks for that tip 👍
@@PremiereGal Just find a similar Photo if that makes sense and create a floating palate of about 3-4 colours that you can pick from with the eyedropper tool... So you go from dark to light... But well done... :-)...
very professional - great !
Awesome, I worked on a photograph taken in 1940 in some kind of park, everything was sepia and now it looks so alive!
Thank you for your help on this video. Really needed this. You rock! Definitely subscribing.

I was looking to remove some white color banding and lots of bright white dots, in a photo from around the 30's. I found your tutorial and was able to instead color the photo, which got rid of the bad areas and also gave me an 'amazing' new color photo. I wish I could share it.
Thank you so much, this helps me to restore my father's photo.😍💕
Thank you very much for the simple yet effective tutorial. God bless!
Wonderful! im also into photo restoring, I just like how there was layer for every colour. something I need to do myself. overall great video.
You do a layer for each part you are colorizing so that you can go back to the layer if later on you want to change the color
thank you very much for your tutorial PremierGal..It was a nice one...greetings from Costa Rica
One of the best tutorial ever watched thank you.
thank you Gal, it will help to watch this video when time sections are added in the comments, like at 18' color added, or something like that
Thank you for the simple explanation.
Thank you so much for this tutorial!
Absolutely brilliant!! Thoroughly enjoyed and am going to give this a go. Subscribed and looking forward to seeing what other tips I can learn
Fantastic! Thanks for subscribing :)
No problem at all :) thank you for sharing your knowledge! Out of interest what scanner do you use to import these older prints?
Amazing!! Thank you for this ❤️❤️
Really enjoyed your teaching style. Thanks so much
Amazing... Thank you so much... helped me do the same thing... please keep the tutorials coming
Looking at your grandfather's photo now I know where you get that beautiful smile from.
Her grandfather might have been a brush-salesman.
