So Ricoh have launched yet another GR!
Is it the GR4 that we're all waiting for ... no.
Sadly no, but it has a couple of new software features that I'll look at in a future video, because those software features are just firmware enhancements, so us GR3 and GR3x owners will get them too.
And ... it has a new hardware feature. The new version is called the Ricoh GRiii/x HDF - and HDF stands for Highlight Diffusion Filter. A bit like the built-in ND filter,the physical HDF can be switched on and off at will. Is this something they could have done as part of a software setting like a recipe?
Probably.
Is it worth upgrading your original GR3 or GR3x? Nope. Not for me at least.
In this video, I'll show you how I do it and save money. (saving for a GR4 or something better...)

If I would intend to buy a new GR3 I would go for the new version. Really the HDF is not a must have, but I guess I would more like to use it than the inbuild ND filter (which one could do with "your" NiSI set as well). (sorry for my "German" English... ;-) )

J’ai acheté un GR3X et depuis j’utilise beaucoup moins mon Fuji XT3.

I’ve put together an almost identical setup since seeing the updated GR. prefer to have the ND filter and save the pennies for whenever the new one comes out…. 🤞

Hi there! I’m planning to buy my first GRIII (HDF) and your channel is being GOLD to fully understand this camera before purchasing it. One question, are you having problem with the back wheel (ISO, Macro…) as some people report? Thanks in advance!

Yes, mine is a little jittery. It can be unpredictable and sometimes difficult to set a precise value. But, I never use it and it’s not a compromise, I’ve never needed it. I shoot mostly aperture priority.
