    Who's that old lady in the intro lol. Had a great fun doing it. Sweet potato in the ball jar in filtered water. Be sure not to put it in city water with chlorine and fluoride. Looking forward to growing a batch. Love it. Thanks for the info.

      If you leave the "city water" out over night, the chlorine will evaporate. Not sure if the flouride will cause a problem for making the slips.

    • @tamigreever6852
      @tamigreever6852 Před 7 lety +6

      Fluoride and many other municipally-added/mandated toxins will not evaporate from the water. Fluoride causes the disease, Fluorosis. This disease will show up in children's permanent teeth around the age of 8 as a small or intrusive brown mark on the tooth. What that mark indicates is a lack of bioavailable minerals that have been replaced by the toxic fluoride. Tooth is a bone; what we do not see is how the fluoride has affected all the bones in our developing bodies. Watch the increase in knee and hip replacements, and I think the answer to how much damage fluoride is doing will become evident. The Federal Government just lowered the recommended levels for "safe" fluoride intake. . .wonder why? I feel that if this is happening to the human body. . .certainly it will affect the uptake of bioavailable nutrients for plants, and of course, animals. Will your slips fail? Probably not. Will they be as healthy as plants fed with spring water captured in low-fluoride environments? Probably not.

      I was given some antibiotic, i think tetracycline as a small child, which made all my baby teeth rot as well as the first few of my adult teeth. However at one point we moved to a city with fluoridated water, as a result the rest of my teeth came in white and strong and did not have to be pulled like 3 of my 2nd molars. They're all still in my mouth as well as my wisdom teeth that took the place of them. No brown spots either. Just sayin'!

    • @tamigreever6852
      @tamigreever6852 Před 7 lety +8

      That is awesome news that you had a different outcome. I wish it was the reality for those who have been poisoned and compromised by high dosage of fluoride. The newly-adjusted national fluoride RDA guidelines was rolled out to address what is called an epidemic of fluorosis. Not only are children ingesting fluoride via water, but they tend to swallow their toothpaste, drink sodas (fluoride included), and also have dental fluoridation treatments. I believe there is a correlation from fluoride imbalance with the uptick in knee and hip replacements in older life. One mineral's imbalance will cause changes in many other minerals.

    I was raised on a farm with a mother and father that loved their gardens, and still love them! I was too caught up in social activities and sports to give much effort towards learning. I have now in the past 5 years been helping my folks and learning as much as possible. Very useful skills. We are implementing much of what you discuss in your videos. Thankful for your willingness to teach and share, a true blessing for our little family. You are on our prayer board; God bless you both with His richness in grace, joy, patience and unending love.

I'm so excited! We've planted six kinds of potatoes and somebody gave us several sweet tators so I cut a few eyes off and I'm rooting that part.. hopfully it works, and we'll have sweet potatoes. Thank you both for your time in making these videos. They mean lots to do many of us. God bless you and keep happy gardening.💙🌼💙

    That is the way I always grew my sweet potato slips. Not planting any this year, too much else going on in life. We do have a garden but not as big. I have done many things that you folks do but I have never been off grid. I do know how to bake in a wood burning stove. Have raised chickens, and lots of things. I grew up on a farm and still live in the country. I am 82 years old. Enjoying your videos.

    I am a townie from a modest, central Illinois village. Thanks for the information. My 8 year-old grandson started a sweet potato in water as part of a Cub Scout advancement requirement. There is now 1 slip about 2 inches long plus 5 or 6 more budding out. The Cub Scouts merely require a 2 week "journal" from the time he put the tuber in the water, but we are determined to take this all the way to harvest! We have grown sweet potatoes in the past but not for many years -- and always from purchased slips. Very excited to see how this works from our slips.
    I also watched the mound vs. raised bed video. I believe we will follow suit by putting our slips in the raised beds. May also try a few in a large tub, per another vlogger.
    Thanks again!!

    Growing my store bought sweet potato in a glass vase. Using filtered water and very diluted veggie food. Roots grew in a week but slips are taking some time because I'm in Washington state and the warmer weather is late this year. I'm not getting 6 to 8 hours of sun yet and they like the warmer weather and lots of sun light 🌞. Great tip's you give on your channel most people don't know how easy it is to grow your own slips instead of paying top dollar for the store bought and mail order slips. God bless 🙏 😃

    I got my hands on a lovely purple sweet potato from the local farmers market last year. Before I got around to eating it, it started growing these gorgeous slips, just right there on my countertop, no water. I plopped it in a mini greenhouse in my apartment over the winter not realizing I should have put it in a jar of water. Nonetheless it's been incredibly prolific producing at least seven hearty (purple) slips and dozens of leaves all on its own. Last night I finally put her in a jar with water and now can't wait to see what these slips produce in a grow bag on my balcony this summer. 😊😊 Thanks for the awesome video.

    My Sweet potatoes (big junk in the jar) are part of my morning ritual...everymorning, I say good morning to them...cause a little encouragement goes along way, and we get excited to see the new growth, especially in the winter..lol . Thumbs up on this video ...cheers.

      How long does it take for a mixture strip?
      I'm in N.Y and want a good head start.

    Thanks y'all!!! I'm going to start mine tonight!!! Thanks for a video that shows what a SLIP is. So many have said put it in water then plant the slip and I'm like, WHAT does that mean!!! Very helpful video. I might have sweet potatoes all over the place.

    Great info. I bought slips from Baker Creek this year that arrived dead. They were soooo sweet and apologized up one way and down another and refunded my money no problem! They are a GREAT company. This next year I'm growing my own like this though! TFS! Love and hugs! Lisa
