Its a mojoAXE tailpiece and the dings on the guitar were from me. Thanks for watching.
Wondered if you had seen this little gem. czcams.com/video/o5R_7unuvPI/video.html
My Grandmother was friends with Jimmy Page's girlfriend in 1960. She met her through a friend as she attended the Loreto Grammar School. Apparently all the boys used to divert their way home so they could walk past and meet girls. She worked at Manchester Airport afterwards and was put in the VIP lounge. She met Clapton, Hendrix, Ringo and Herman's Hermits loads of others too. The 60s sounded ace. Sorry to drivel on, thought you guys would appreciate this though.
Awesome story! Thanks for sharing 🤘🏽🎸
Killer story. Thanks for sharing.
Dude...half the fun of playing music is the people we meet and the stories we remember...rock on my brother!!!
Joseph, great story. There wasn't the camera phones etc around back in the day so lots and lots of human contact moments are lost. Wee 'clips' like this are gems from an awesome musical era.
That's a great story thanks for sharing 👍
This guitar is absolutely legendary. I feel lucky to have been a small part of the story. That's an incredible guitar my dude.
Thanks for your help Des.
Beautiful guitar, sounds amazing
FINALLY! The day we finally get to see this beut sing!
That may be the best tone of a guitar straight into an amp that I have ever heard. Thank you.
This wait did not disappoint. That guitar is absolutely gorgeous 😍 and those may be called minihumbuckers but there's nothing mini about that tone! She's a screamer!
Oh man it’s like Christmas on CZcams today everyone’s uploading some great guitar stuff today! Thanks for making it even better, that firebird sounds great! That color is awesome too!
Really.....REALLY....beautiful restoration! And nice to hear Allen Collins get a mention. Wish he and Ed King received more recognition. Thanks Matthew.
Mike McGuire ran Valley Arts in North Hollywood Ca and built the first Super Strats for Steve Lukather, Larry Carlton and others. It was the place to go for custom work in the late70s thru the early 90s
Yes, that is my father that you are referring to. I actually did the finish work on this particular project.
Beautiful ! Love 2 pups with only 2 pots.
The restoration turned out awesome and it sounds so wickedly sweet
The dings mean it's worth playing! I've been a Thunderbird fan since before I bought my first in 1982, and a Firebird even longer than that. You did a perfect restoration here.
Truly biblical, your channel is one of a kind! Will brighten anyone’s day in a matter of seconds 👌🏽🎸
Austin Peters the only people who could possibly hate this channel are his neighbors 😂
@@TJjjjjjjjjjj No neighbors!
Bubby Flippu lol have you seen the size of the cabs Matt has ? I reckon there’s people the next suburb over that can probably hear him if he cranked it
Dude that fuzz was HEAVENLY
The tone on that bride pickup. My god, deep, warm, and still so articulate, it's got such a nice "bite." I'm so jealous lol!
i really like how you went in between the 1 and 3 specs, i believe Allen collins's first firebird from lynyrd skynyrd was a 1 that had a second pickup added in later, love the color too, not one i would have picked but it turned out looking great! looking forward to hearing some skynyrd through it!
You know I'll be playing some Skynyrd👍🏻
Allen also added a p-90 in the bridge position, pretty unique but man did it sing.
I'm just a sucker for the natural/original look on these guitars. That said though the colour you've chosen complements the lines of the guitar too, colour or not the tone/sound from your guitar is absolutely delicious.
If you haven't already seen it I suggest you check out on you tube Lynyrd Skynyrd in Knebworth (think they were on before the Stones) doing "Free bird". The sound of that guitar was phenomenal, I thought was an Explorer he was using??. Anyway, I'm off to check. That song always moves me, but that version/rendition especially. Enjoy. ❤✌🤙
@@estaban3248 he played firebirds early in skynyrds career then explorers later on. The concert you are referencing was later after Ed quit and was replaced by Steve Gaines. Hope this is helpful
Any time I see a Firebird I think of Allen and I always will.
I've always loved the sound of a Firebird, but they never really caught my eye... Until now!
This changes my mind!
Glad to see you're back, man. I already was hoping all is well with you. That guitar is absolutely stunning.
Lemme just say, that is not a color I would have chosen myself, BUT seeing it I’d have to say that is STUNNING! Great color for a Firebird, and I love you’ve kept so much of it’s unique character intact. Really, really well done.
When I was a real young kid, they called that color pink champagne, Oldsmobile and Cadillac used that paint on some of their cars, definitely early 1960’s.
Wow it was worth the wait. THATS DEFINITELY A KEEPER!
I liked it how it first arrived, but she's certainly a beauty now as well!
I feel the same about the way it looked originally
She is a beautiful instrument. You did a wonderful thing giving it a new life. I'm not stuck on any one manufacture, model. They all bring something interesting. Looked great, sounds magnificent. Well done Matthew.
Mike currently has my Firebird! It was black and he is making it into a sunburst for me! So pumped
Sounds incredible and now with looks to match. Great job. Wasn't expecting the colour but love it. It's gonna get better and better.
This project turned out incredibly!
A color that looks better the closer you get! Great job!
This channel is my 2020's best find.
Matthew, I appreciate how you care for these pieces of history.
Love that sound. You really have a good ear for how guitars should sound and how to get it. Congrats on the restoration. I think it was worth the wait.
What a beauty! I like to "palm" when I play, and I keep jabbing the volume knob. Your guitar has the knobs away from the bridge. I dig it!
Killer sound. Definitely leans a bit more Fender than standard Gibson but then I suppose that's exactly what they were looking for in the 60s when they brought them out
I love the way this Bird sounds, especially the neck pup. I kinda dig the color as well. Man I really need a Firebird! 😩
The Firebird almost sustains forever...the sound is so sweet, your licks gave me goose bumps. Thank you man !
Love the history of this guitar. Enjoyed seeing restoration from start to finish too!
The Firebird pickup is one of a kind. Smooth tones.
Glad you did this.
I was one of ever how many that suggested this in the beginning.
GREAT color scheme AND playing!!!
Guitar sounds amazing!!!
I think you made the right decision all the way with the Firebird. Love the color.
Finish is absolutely gorgeous man. Almost positive I saw a custom SG recently also dressed in that Heather Poly and completely fell in love.
What a joy to see and hear that beauty. What a great re-work. Thanks for the post.
What s Beastly tone spectacularly looking restored vintage Gibson Firebird
That neck pickup is so straty.. every killer classic tone is coming out of that thing. You're stoked! Nice job.
Love it, we use to call that color pepto bismo, it's extremely popular today, but I remember back in 70s most guys thinking it was too girly of a color, funny how times change,I've always liked the color, the restoration turned out great.
Good to see you posting again Matthew, wow, sounds and looks so good!
Matthew uploads=+100 tone.
This is a really great guitar, it was great before, but now it's even better!!! Awesome colour and I like where you went with the whole thing.
Awesome Alex👍🏻👍🏻
One of the most beautiful instruments I’ve ever seen! Great job! So excited for you! Enjoy the hell out of it.
It looks great! Thank you for sharing.
Looks like the same color of my Dads 1957 Chevrolet 4 door Belair. Really turned out nice Matt...great sounding through You Tube...
Love the color , it’s something you never see so it’s super original to you
Great Re-Store job. Birds always sound so sharp and articulate. Awesome!!
Matthew Scott, I love what you have done with this guitar oh, my hat is off to you! It's beautiful! I'm glad you went with an original 1960s color that was offered from the factory and such an unusual one like this was a good choice as well. I like how you paid homage to the firebird 1 series with just a single volume and tone knob. It came out really really nice you should be proud. The firebird has risen From the Ashes you can say! Or you can say that a beautiful swan has emerged from The Ugly Duckling (not that it was ugly before but man what a transformation!) Really nice restoration and it looks badass. Sounds badass too, nice playing!
❤️ The color and the sound ✌🏻
Absolutely gorgeous. You made the right choices all the way around.
Love the guitar. Wouldn’t have been my choice of colour but it still looks good! The main thing is that it sounds fantastic!! Great to see and hear you play, lifts my spirits every time. Keep smiling. Love and Peace ✌️ bro
Beautiful restoration ..love the colour .
fabulous color and look. so crunchy and great sustain. I'm so envious
Applause and Congratulations!!!!!! Looks and sounds, flawless!!!!
Fantastic! Love that finish... may it bring you years of joy!!!!!!!
It’s a true player! What a incredible sustain when you held that note! It doesn’t have a lot of twang, that was a surprise. I found the sound is stil very bluesy and warm. The color is new for me but it suits the shape of the firebird very well, makes it classy.
You did a fantastic job on this one and man you played it well. I wish I could play like that. Thank you for this update and please keep sharing your awesome stuff on YT! Peace ✌️
Love everything about it. I have a FB V refined in Silver Mist. It just slays me every day I play it.
Beautiful. Heather is a bold yet classy choice of colour. Spot on.
I've been considering 🤔 a vintage LP special 🤔 but after watching this video, I've changed my mind.!!! I've always wanted a firebird, and besides I already have 2 LP's and thanks to you, I believe my next guitar 🎸 will be the firebird. Your refinished 🐦 🦜 🦢 is absolutely amazing 👏 😍 🙌 👌 ❤
that is a really awesome restoration... the color is perfect for it
Love it ♥️ the fact you researched who owned and have the history on it and people associated with it!
Watched the whole series on this guitar. Happy to see it turned out beautifully! Love the color. I've always been a big fan of burgundy mist, or whatever Gibson calls their version!
Beautiful refinish. Wow! 👍🏻
Wonderful choices! Love the golden knobs contrasting the chrome hardware and pickups. Sounds great.
Love what you've done Matthew.
The Firebird turned out beautiful, now some glue for the case.
Super Reverb sounds epic with that Firebird pushing it.
As a long time Firebird player and appreciator; your guitar is gorgeous.
That was a journey. Nicely done. Looks excellent.
Turned out great. I’m from Kalamazoo Mi. In the 8th grade my mom went down to the Gibson factory and bought me non reverse with 3 black p90s in In Ernest green for ....100 bucks. It was a #2 with. Small wood chip under the clear coat. Also bought a Kalamazoo amp with 1-12 all tube for 25 bucks. Did I keep it. Of course not. Had it for a 3-4 years. I was pretty small at that time and the neck was killing me. At least that’s my excuse now.
Always love your tonal video journey! Thanks!
Personally, I LOVE that colour. Vintage colours are perfect, but it's nice to experiment every now and then. Just some contrast from the sunbursts, cherry reds or olympic whites we see everywhere. This one's a keeper, Matthew. Great video as always
You guys did a awesome job and 64 the year I was born. I was lucky to grow up through some of the greatest time for music.
Love the finish and the tone. Wow the sustain!
Great story, great refinish, and amazing tone. It's a keeper for sure.
Cool color! That turned out nice! Thanks for sharing!
Sounds great, I especially like the clean tones, they really are unique sounding guitars. Tremendous refinish job.
Truly amazing job. Proud of you
These always flew under the radar for me and I’ve only recently become a Firebird fan. I came across Johnny Winter playing ‘Suzie Q’ and liked the way it sounded and of course looked. I then did some research and bought one about a week later. It’s also the first Gibson I’ve ever owned. The guitar has reignited my passion for playing.
Looks and sounds stellar! Congrats and good on you for giving that guitar a whole new second life. Love it!
came out awesome really good to see you again.
Great job! Spectacular tone (and fingers!). Thanks!
That is one of the best looking Gibson's I've ever seen. Great job on the restore!
Looks great and sounds great too.
Identical color to my phone case....absolutely beautiful finish and tone that matches it....Firebird minis have you reaching your hand to meet the ethereal while you’re still knee deep in the grit and struggle of down below.......like you said somewhere in between...never understood how they aren’t 1000x more popular...and equally glad they aren’t....that guitar and the story you brought out of it....just wow....
holy moly the sustain on that is insane
All that wood on the firebird gives an awesome tone
The videos of this journey made me fall in love with the firebird and I just ordered one. Thank you!
I've got a pretty good guitar collection (over 20) but a '60s Firebird is my white whale. I've been waiting years to find the right color, year, etc.. So jealous... but grateful I got to hear his. Stay safe everyone. Cheers.
Matt, two years ago when I was stating out on guitar, I was really into metal and thought that that was as good as guitars could get/sound, at the time I thought single coils couldn't sound good. But the first time i heard you play I instantly decided that that was the tone I wanted. I didn't know if it was high gain, low gain or no gain but it sounded killer. And bear in mind I had never heard srv before (just because you seem to get compared to him the most). Fast forward to 2 weeks ago and I just got my first strat after playing a home made tele for 2 years. Idk what the moral of the story is but thanks for being such a musical influence
The moral is you live and learn and it has you thinking, playing, and feeling good. That's a good deal. 40 years in and I still learn and I enjoyed Matthews Firebird journey also. Havin' fun. Ha-
Congrats man always keep learning in guitar and life.
Beyond lovely. Hang on to it. Name it Steve.
Love the color, the whole thing turned out great!
Beautiful and tasteful job, Matthew. Well done.
man your tone is so fucking nice, I always thought I kind of knew what nice tone was until I started watching your videos and realized I know absolutely nothing. Your incredible playing doesn't hurt either. love your content mate!
Wow! It sounds and looks amazing 😎
wow !...speechless, just friggin awsome
I really dig the color! Looks and sounds great.
Great job, it looks incredible.
Finish and tone are outstanding!
