Well, they were programmed to think like actual soldiers (or caricatures with the tactical resourcefulness of real life soldiers).
If they didn't have the X1000 chip this wouldn't have been a good movie

It's interesting how differently the 2 factions turned out.
The Gorgonites were programmed to hide and lose, but they still had enough of a drive to explore the world around them and try to learn new things ultimately leading them to overcoming their initial programming. "No more hiding."
Meanwhile the Commando Elite approached everything as robotically as possible. Yes they had creativity but there was never any thought to the world around them beyond how to weaponize it or destroy it. None of them even reacted to there being other copies of themselves existing at the same time. No questions asked whatsoever. This left them with no sense of purpose beyond their "mission". "There will be no mercy."
The Gorgonites wanted to reach their paradise/homeland... Gorgon. What did the Commandos have to look forward to even if they "accomplished their mission"?

AJGemau This wasn’t a kids film director wanted it to be a film for adults like dark comedy but the studio wanted it to be more kid friendly so some parts are but most of the movie was already shot and finished so it had to stick to its PG-13 rating

I was in high school when this came out. I just thought it was a fun, entertaining movie! Back then people could still laugh at things. Life was more carefree, WE WERE MORE FREE! Nobody can laugh at anything anymore, laughing is probably offensive to people who don't laugh! Just pathetic, I know.
