Hello Viewers! In this short we got stopped by the "trail police" and was told the Sur Ron is illegal. We had a small debate about the logic and we went on our way. Thankfully they were kinda cool about it and we kept on riding our Sur Rons.

I have a 7k carbon enduro mountain bike and that thing is light compred to the bulky battery powered dirt bike. Also if you mod ur surron you can reach very high speed that the enduro wont reach unless ur going down a large hill. The video is only making you look u bad. Most dirt bikers actually meet karens and not go around being dicks
I ride a 2 stroke dirt bike. LOVE IT. I ride a pedal assist E-Bike. LOVE IT. I ride a pedal only mountain bike LOVE IT. Electric dirt bikes like the Sur Ron look rad. I'll almost certainly have one someday and LOVE THAT TOO.
I volunteer for trail work on the trails I ride. One thing I don't do is play games with "trail police" pretending I don't know I'm on a machine that is not allowed on that trail, or argue with someone as to why it should be allowed. Why put them in that position? Show some respect and real kindness. Pay attention and abide by trail regulations. If you don't like it, organize with other riders on the same machines to change the use through the channels everyone else has to go through.
That takes to much time. Just ride and pay the ticket. Fuck em

n California, electric bicycles are regulated in the same way as traditional bicycles. Both vehicles must follow the same rules of the road.
The state defines three classes of e-bikes.
Class 1: Bicycle equipped with a motor that provides assistance only when the rider is pedaling, and that ceases to provide assistance when the e-bike reaches 20 mph.
Class 2: Bicycle equipped with a throttle-actuated motor, that ceases to provide assistance when the e-bike reaches 20 mph.
Class 3: Bicycle equipped with a motor that provides assistance only when the rider is pedaling, and that ceases to provide assistance when the e-bike reaches 28 mph.

Just so everyone understands the laws of riding in California state park trails, only e-bike class 1 are allowed to be on the trails. Class 1 is pedal assist (no throttle) with a max speed of 20 mph. This Suron is considered class 4, which is technically an e-motorcycle and not an e-bike.
When we were kids, we rode 200 pound dirt bikes pretty much any where. People cried and now we got a little tiny patch of sand. After a few generations of that, most youngsters have thrown their lives away.

I know the guy on the MTB and he is a really good dude. Without putting his info out here let's just say he is a fixture in the SoCal biking community, and spends hundreds of hours of his time volunteering so the community can have a place to ride bikes. He is speaking from experience, and is just making you aware. And I say this as someone who has A Surron.

Sur Ron is an electric motorcycle it's not an ebike. Please respect the trail. It's over powered for mtb and hiking trail. The guy on mtb is right here.
It's actually a mid drive electric bike that you can ride anywhere. It literally says it on their website.
Whether you like it or not, with a 200$ pedal kit and riding in EP mode a Surron/Talaria/whatever is legally and definitionally an e-bike.

I'm in Colorado. Technically we just lack laws governing these types of ebikes. So they fall under class 3 ebike here. Being pedal assisted you could fight for class 2. Then with a aftermarket controller you can tune down to the 750 watts. So while normally my bike is 7kw I could simply switch to a very specific mode in eco that's turned way the fuck down. Now at that point, who and how are they going to prove you violated the law? They aren't, simply put the resources required outweigh the potential outcome of a successful case. Also important to note Denver won't pull you over for low level traffic infractions so riding your surron in the street here is now essentially legal without registration as they will not pull you over for it. There is also a no chase policy here so if a cop does try and pull you over all you have to do is dump it and that's the end of that. @@PerpetualMan22

The main reasons that motorized bikes cant go on bike trails is that they do significantly more damage than a normal bicycle..
It can take as long as 80 years for land to recover after a dirt bike rips off the top-layer.. ebikes can be just as powerful and spin the tires in the same manner.
If you're not supposed to be there you can't get angry when people complain, you move on or you fuck off. You don't film them and act superior.

To be honest its probably one of the most ideal places they should be riding at. It's pretty open so they can see and slow down/stop for people easily. Unfortunately the problem here is the brand of bike. That's why the guy mentions a drivers license. They look slick and go fast so people like them but they don't comply with state law. In my state I think they cannot go faster than 28mph and they have a power restriction aswell. This bike is like 10x the power and doubles the allowed speed so it qualifies as a motorcycle.
Doesn't really have much to do with it's size or tearing up trails. Bikes in compliance with the law can be the same size or heavier and tear it up all the same.

I remember years ago before I matured, I got so mad and cussed at an FWC officer for telling me I couldn't drive my Jeep on the bike trails. I knew why then and now but to be fair, bikes are allowed on Jeep trails and highways.

Can not speak for the US, but in my country the MTB community puts in a lot of effort to realise mtb- trails, getting the permits, building and maintaining them.
Every other community(horse or surron) is free to do the same. Just do not be rude and go on trails that are not meant for your vehicle class.
Besides that there are of course general trails where everyone is allowed. On those trails just take care of eachother and be nice.
Citizens are allowed anywhere on public land, if you do not own the land, you have no right to complain.

The problem isn’t weight so much it’s wheel spin. Surrons provide enough power to break the rear wheel loose which chews up trails.

Those trails were made by guys on dirtbikes before mountain biking was even a thing. The entire mountain bike movement is predicated on stealing other people's public trail systems.
Oddly enough, you can have a motor on your bike and not be classed as a motorized vehicle. In the US, you can do this if your bike is class 2 or below. But these bikes are not e-bikes because they aren't fitted with pedals, and are likely not class 2 or below because the governor is undoubtedly disabled.

The difference between a 25-pound mountain bike and a 110-pound Sur Ron is night and day. One will give you maybe a hairline fracture. The other will brake a bone in half. I cant do 40 mph down a hill on a mountain bike. you can on a Sur Ron. Hell, you did it and broke your shoulder. And you were on the bike just imagen being a hiker that didn't see you coming around a blind corner.

Very true, and I would never even think of riding a mountain bike on dirt bike specific trails for fear of serious injury or death. comparing a strike by a 27 pound mountain bike and an edirtbike. It’s like saying getting hit by a cement truck is the same as getting hit by a pickup truck. It’s only a matter of time until they get completely banned. I’m not against these guys riding them and they were chill but they just don’t belong on hiking/ horse/ mtb trails. That’s all. I don’t wish them harm or anything but they do belong in a dirt bike setting.

What's stopping the people on horses from saying the mtb riders scare their horses? See, the entitlement goes both ways. Although I'll agree a sur Ron isn't an emtb, it's a e dirt bike. It's definitely a huge difference in size and top speed. The dirt bike is destructive more so than the mtb but no more than a horse. Where I live, there simply aren't any legal riding areas for dirt bikes. Seems to me there is plenty of room for a designated trail directly next to the one they're on. Not everyone is physically capable of riding or walking the trails, so for some, an emtb or e dirt bike is the only way they're able to enjoy like the rest of us. As someone who's been mountain biking since I was a child for me personally, it's hard not to support something that allows so many to still enjoy what we enjoy. Just share the damn trails and go about your business.
