I played DA2 knowing nothing about it, got halfway through the game while going for Anders, and had to restart entirely and go for someone else because I felt he was so dramatic that I cringed in every scene. Writing was twilight Edward Cullen levels of angst. Don’t just assume that every opinion you don’t like is a twisted fandom creation.

Then there is the case of him manipulating you but eh, every romance in DA2 had a fucked up part. Yeah, because Anders' writer based his character on her ex who had bipolar disorder (her words). People usually do not like their exes and it's visible in this case. In my opinion the writer should be objective towards the character they write, and I have the impression that the writer deliberately gave Anders the worst qualities, because she identified him with her ex, which is... strange.
