Ben, wat are u doing hea?? Go n shake sme parties...Happy Holidays..Merry Christmas 🎉
This is my party! Merry Christmas Angelina 🎅
Good to see you finally came around to the SG lifestyle. There's a damn good reason why I have a dozen SGs of every type from Junior to Custom to Supreme.
So the truth is that I love this guitar but that the neck goes out too far for me. They're neck heavy, I feel like I have to adjust my playing on one (not that I'm particularly good in the first place). Don't get me wrong, I would keep thos guitar in a second but it's hard for me to bond with an SG. I have been practicing on it all week.
@@TheNeuroticGuitarist Totally agree. The neck on an SG is out further than an LP. Especially when sitting.
@TheJeffcurran I always play sitting so more than any fatter neck or wide fretboard, that bothers me. Same w a firebird. I hate firebirds as cool as they look, they are hard to play and I hate the pups. I love the look of an SG and that Vietnamese one I customized is one of my best sounding guitars
As someone who lives in Boston, I do in fact love my humbuckahs in my SG, also have to give you props because not many people know that the first SGs were the LP doublecut due to the fact that so few were made with the official title of “SG”. You know yer stuff and it clearly shows man, job well done!
Rock on Angus 🤘 thanks for watching my fellow Bostonian. Please subscribe and join the madness 🙌
Brother Ben, love the show!
Thanks so much Greg 🙏 cheers 🍻
Never thought a silver SG would appeal to me, but that SG looks sweet, and it sounds pretty good too. Nice job, and entertaining as always! 😉
Thanks so much dude! It's definitely tempting but the neck is out too much for me. Jeff commented earlier. Sgs and firebird. But man, this one has been fun. Still playing on it for a few days
Yeah, I like my SGs, but for me, they will always be out shadowed by an ES335 and LP. I love the different colors of the new SG Standards and prefer the bat wing pickguard, but of course those Standards don’t have the slim tapered neck I prefer. Oh well 🙄😉
I finally caved in. Ordered the Pelham Blue Burst one, although the Silver and Transparent Teal ones were tempting too. Even though the batwing pickguard Standard doesn’t have the slim taper neck, I had to get it. I’ll be fine with the more rounded neck. Your review helped convince me! 👍🏻
Hey brother god bless merry Christmas always look forward to your
Merry Christmas rich!!! Cheers, my friend and thanks for watching 👀
Hey brother thanks for sharing the amazing guitars you been blessed with
Love that guitar. I had a 1962 Les Paul Jr which I later traded (with some cash) for a 1981 Les Paul Standard. Wish I could have kept the Jr. They can be neck divers but once you learn to deal with that they are amazing guitars to play. The silver finish is awesome. Great video as always - KEEP ROCKIN' BENNY!!
Happy holidays mark!!!!
Happy Holidays to you Benny! Here's to a great 2024!@@TheNeuroticGuitarist
I’ve long wondered if Gibson was trying to emulate the car industry a little by changing the style of the les Paul model the way car model name stays, but the style evolves
🤘😜🤘
Benny, it’s all about the Creep Show shirt!! The 490 and 498 sound a lot punchier on this SG than the Les Paul Supreme. I had to cue up my iPad so I could compare videos side by side. Love that finish too.
It's just 490s in the sg vs the 490/498 in the supreme! I agree!!!
That color looks fucking cool
It really is, the silver sparkle with the nitro finish is a magic combo ✨️ thanks for watching dude, please subscribe and join the madness 🙌
“Frank was weird” lol😂😂😂😂
🤘😜🤘
I dig the silver and appreciate the bits on the Les Paul myth. It sounds a little bit more sparkly than Les Pauls in your comparison video.
Everything i said about les paul in this video is 100% true and NOT myth for reference. I have the documents to prove it! If anything, demystifying the myth
The SG Junior!
In the prototype drawing!
especially a 66’ the only year with the long neck tenon, NO neck PU route, small control cavity…..sustain for days LOUD, 1 piece of Mahogany!
Someone had already modded it, when I bought it, in 1995.
It had an uncovered Gibson PAF, but it just sits on top, only a tiny bit of wood removed under the original soapbar.
I PU an SD JB in it, and later I added a tone pros wrap around and a refret with Dunlop medium jumbos (it had a Leo Quan bridge) My treasure, I’ll never sell it!😉
Sounds frigging rad dude! A forever guitar! Thanks for watching and happy holidays. Please subscribe and join the madness 🙌
Silver SG Standard, very awesome! Long ago in the 1970s I drooled over an SG at my LGS but only finally bought my first SG last spring (used mint 2018 Special with dual blade minis). I love this SG to death! And I badly want one of these new SG Standard colors, but I'll have to wait till a few show up used since they're $2700CAD in Canada new and it's either fix my teeth or get that gorgeous Shiny SG. Yah I know, easy choice.
🤘🤘🎸🔥
Hey Benny, great background on that SG. I have to admit that the SG has never really grabbed my interest. But that silver one checks all the boxes for me! Thanks again for all you do, it's appreciated! Happy Holiday's to you & yours my friend.
Me either, I own one at this point and its not even a Gibson. Too neck heavy, very awkward for me. That said, this one renewed my faith in em. Happy holidays Lin!
How's the neck on that SG Benny, does it want to find the ground?@@TheNeuroticGuitarist
That SG is a bucket list guitar. Sadly my only guitar that was a 1973 Martin D35 was taken while he was recovering from a stroke from the landlord. I scraped up a few dollars and got a cheap washburn that has about 1/2 inch action.
Jeez man, I'm sorry to hear. Thanks for watching and happy holidays. Please subscribe and join the madness 🙌
Glad they're using graphtec nuts. I've had so many nut problems with my Gibsons previously.
It's huge!!! Graphtech makes the best nuts in the business. Thanks for watching, please subscribe and join the madness 🙌
That silver SG is a must have 😍
It's amazing! If you decide to get one please use the link in the description of this video! Happy holidays
@@TheNeuroticGuitarist I will, I’ve been saving for a Es 335 but either way I’ll use the link and buy from Sam Ash! 🤘🤘
Love that color ‼️
Rock on Kevin and thanks for watching. Please subscribe and join the madness 🙌

Do you own any Laney Amps? a lot of that particular sabbath tone comes from those “Super group” amps
Not sure if Tony used a “treble booster”or not
I just got the new Laney lead top solid state amp. Took a bit of getting used to but once I got it dialed in it’s awesome!
He did use a treble booster on albums like paranoid. I haven't ever owner any Laney amps although I like them. Amps are much less Sentimental to me and much more of a tool. I have 30 guitar heads and a kemper and between those there isn't a sound I can't get I'd want to. Congrats on the new amp, time to go play sabbath really loud
🤘🤘
If Sam Ash ever gets tired of sending you guitars, by all means have them send one or two to me. 😂
🤘😜🤘
Sorry fat fingers as I was saying looking forward to you next video. Remember me when you blow up ! May you excel in all you do
🤘😜🤘🙏
Hey, ever tried a PRS Baritone?
I haven't although my good buddy Brock from starset uses the 277 constantly and swears by it
@@TheNeuroticGuitarist I’d recommend it. I have the PRS Mike Mushok (which is the first version of the 277) and it’s great!
Happy holidays Ben! So I’m just gonna take the bait and say that Die Hard is NOT a Christmas movie any more than A Christmas Story is an action movie! And no Lethal Weapon is not a Christmas movie either!
Haha, lethal weapon is NOT like die hard, which is 100% a Christmas movie 😜 happy holidays and thanks for watching, please subscribe and join the madness 🙌
Been a subscriber for a while now! I’m just imagining how hilarious it would be to debate you on this! Of course I would win because the story behind Die Hard has NOTHING to do with Christmas 😂!!!
The SG pickup probably sounds better than the 498T you played in your previous test because it's a different pickup. These SG Standards come with a 490T in the bridge, not 498T.
I say that in the video. I'm referring to the 490 rhythm pickup and the fact that all positions sound better than the supreme. It's literally what I say in the video lol
I have 9 Gibson USA 1 R9 Custom Shop
ZERO Murphy Lab.
I’m jonesing for one.
I think a Light aged R8?
That’s a ‘24 guitar. That and a Custom Shop Strat this year.
Dude, that's crazy because that's EXACTLY what I'm doing for next week. I have a light aged Murphy lab r8! I'll have a link through my video if you decide you want one. Hint: it's awesome. Do yours have custombuckers?
completely agree with @bofuscrapshaw .
Rock on brother! Cheers to you! Please subscribe and join the madness 🙌
I bought the Silver Mist in the '61 Standard version. The reason(s) I chose the '61 over the large batwing Standard is that I've always preferred the classic and classy look of the small pickguard and really hate the 490t in the bridge. I had one in my 2019 cherry SG Standard (batwing) and found it to be weak. I can live with almost any Gibson pickup but the 490t had no redeeming qualities to me. Easy enough to swap out, right? Well, that brings me to another reason I chose the '61... the batwing Standard has a PCB, so you need a quick connect if you want to swap pickups. As with my 2019, I had to buy am aftermarket adapter with the quick connect plugs to replace it. It was that or rewire the guitar or buy a Gibson pickup with a quick connect which cost more than Duncans or DiMarzios which I prefer.
All that being said - the '61 is handwired with CTS pots and Orange Drop Caps and IMO the 60's Burstbuckers are awesome pickups that are creamy and can also do metal. The '61 also comes with a hardshell case. One thing I do prefer about the Batwings are the Grover tuners. As far as the neck... mine is definitely not thin. It's very much like the batwing profile. YMMV but I suspect there is very little difference between the thickness. To sum it up... for the extra $200... the '61 gets the better pickups (IMO), hand wired electronics, the classier small pickguard and the hardshell case. To me, it looks like a Custom Shop SG.
That's just smart, man. I'm with you. I love the burstbuckers, I tend not to be a fan of the 490s but I thought they sounded great in this guitar, but I'd take a 61 BB over it.
Man, I've been wanting an SG so bad lately. This video didnt help. lol keep on rockin!
Rock on brother 🤘 thank u for watching, please subscribe and join the madness if u haven't already 🙏
Did they finally figure out the silver paint? No need to call Glenn Fricker right?
Looks great to me.
What’s weird with mine ? No checking?!!?
I mean none?😳. Musta been a dry climate guitar, is what I’ve been told.
Nothing weird with you and FYI, dry climate causes the checking. Checking his caused primarily by changes in relative humidity.
Yeah, half of what you hear about Les Paul the man is BS he made up. Personally, I feel his legacy should be less (pun?) about guitar invention and more about how he invented multi-track recording. That has had a bigger impact on the world.
It really is. He's known in the guitar world for guitar stuff but internationally he's recognized as one of the greatest American icons in history and one of the greatest inventors since Edison. You have to step out of the guitar world for that
I’m skeptical about Nitro being better than Poly. It’s an outdated technology. You never see cars painted in Nitro.
Not better, different. It's thinner and allows the guitar to breathe more sonically. Poly gives you a shinier finish and lasts longer without any checking. It's a tradeoff for some people. But as far as sound, nitro all day.
I thought SG stood for Shitty Guitar. 🤣
🤪
Do you own all of those guitars, and if yes, are you out of your fucking mind?! Lol.. I think David Gilmour owns less.
I own all of those guitars but I do not own the SG. Gilmour sold most of his guitars but he did own way more than me. Thanks for watching, please subscribe and join the madness 🙌
