Venice is just unrelentlessly beautiful. I think part of the ache I feel when I see it, is knowing that rising sea levels are probably going to make it uninhabitable in the future.
We felt that too - we didn't expect to be affected by Venice this trip as we've been a few times before, but we were really moved by our time there. It's a testament and reminder that human beings can overcome adversity and build things of extraordinary beauty - sometimes I like to reminded of this when I've been around too many soulless aircraft-hanger style Tescos and Sainsburys :)
