As a former Christian who is a therapist. I can tell everyone I have NEVER had clients traumatized by Dragqueens. I DO have a LOT of clients that have endured horrific trauma in churches and religious families!
My niece who is a clinical psychologist who specializes in trauma gets most of her patients from Catholic high schools. Please, tell you patients that they should never accept shame from the shameless.
@@frankelliott244 'Never accept shame from the shameless' You dropped this but I think I need it? Do you mind if I keep it?
Ya, but did they meet katia in person? lol I jest!
yup. exactly. same. and what they're doing is like saying that all movies are inappropriate for children. No. don't damn the whole movie industry. Some are appropriate, some clearly aren't. There's such a thing as * genre * .
Not all clowns are appropriate for children (like horror ones).
Not all circuses are appropriate for children.
Not all movies are appropriate for children.
Not all concerts are appropriate for children.
Not all spectator sports are appropriate for children (especially ones with swearing and violence).
Not all religious services are appropriate for children.
Not all drag shows are appropriate for children.
As someone with extensive religious trauma, I actually found a lot of comfort in drag queens, and the art of drag in general. The idea that someone was out there who could make a complete farce all while looking stunning, and lip-synching to some of my favourite songs. It was so comforting and got me through tough times, where, conveniently enough my religious trauma over took my life.
As a woman, I've never felt insulted by a drag queen OR trans women. I have, however, had Christian cis women repeatedly insult me and try to take my rights away.
As another cis woman

If a child is at a non-child friendly drag show, that’s on the parents, not the queens/kings. As Lady Gaga once said “Who tf hears the words Lady Gaga and Las Vegas and thinks ‘I’m bringing my kids!’“ like seriously, if you bring your kids to an adult drag show, the queens/kings aren’t going to change the performance to be more child friendly
they shouldn't change the performance but they shouldn't let the kids in
@@hannarivers5872 that isn't their responsibility. they have so much going on with the show, kids coming is on the parents and no one else. and if kids do get in, it's out of their control

When I was younger I got lost in Las Vegas and I have never felt safer than with a group of drag queens who helped me find my parents. The drag community is amazing and anyone who says otherwise is wrong and I also have more trauma from people in the church than any other community I have been around.
That's a cute story. Tysm for sharing

The fact that the editors put a pic of Jinx up at that moment💀
Honestly same..

I was at that performance by Jinkx, it was honestly transient. The crowd loved it too
Girl is this the Jinkx Monsoon BRAND!
I definitely agree not all drag shows are appropriate for children, however it's the parents responsibility to not take their children to those shows. You're not gonna take your child to a strip club then blame the strippers.
Exactly, especially as a drag queen who performs only at family friendly events, I definitely keep it completely kid appropriate. I mean my last number was literally me dressed in all white and glitter performing let it go lmao, I don't see how people think that's grooming when singers and Disney performers do just that all the time
💯
@@ireliyuhh I think most parents expect family friendly drag shows to be just like you described, more classy and composed. The issue is with the Queens themselves that don't understand or care what makes a performance "family friendly." They're doing a great disservice to Drag Queens in general, who in my experience have been some of the warmest & funniest people to be around.
@Stephanie Mitchell yeah I think when it comes to those kinds of things its mostly a production issue because it's the job of whoever is producing the show to make sure the queen knows or has an idea of what Child friendly is supposed to be for them. Like I have to run songs and numbers by my producers first before they approve them lol
@@PatricenotPatrick uh, these disgusting shows are still drag shows. Drag is about such a wide variety of things that saying that drag is for kids is wrong and saying that it's not for kids is wrong. So true about "Do people go to therapy because they went to a Drag show? No". Meanwhile you've got millions of people scarred for life because of organized religion.
So true. I had a horrible time as a kid in church as well. Protestants claim to be so much more progressive compared to catholics but it was a protestant church we had a pastor being physically violent against "misbehaving" children, (He was moved after the second incident he hit a child as a form of punishment.) and a Sexton preying on underage girls. Lovely people these are...
THIS!!!!
Can speak having been in the Christian church for most of my life growing up....they are the least loving people you will ever meet.
I kind of do go to therapy because of UNHhhh because thanks to it discovered that I wanted to live and needed professional guidance to go about that.

I love how Trixie immediately picked up how these girls hate each other 😂 it's so obvious that they do not like each other. Also I love the transparency Trixie and I absolutely agree with you. I just... It's so weird to me that Christians live in this delusional world where the idea of letting other people exist, do what they want live how they want seems like terrorism to them.
Nail on the head. It literally is like terrorism to them. I escaped the church 10 yearsa ago and I've never met a less loving group of people.
As a cis woman, I’d absolutely LOVE to do drag. The glamour, the wigs, the makeup, the shoes- none of it is anything I can wear during my normal day, and the idea of being able to participate is something I’d adore. It’s not a mockery, it’s a celebration 🥳
You can absoultely do drag! Drag King, Queen or whatever, go for it.

I wouldn't say they are over exaggerated as breasts come in all sizes, but I can understand in a way why some people would say that. Not all drag queens put on big silicone boobs, but a large portion of them do and it can feel sometimes that in order to look and appear feminine you need big boobs..
Personally I feel a lot of insecurity regarding the size of my breasts since they are very small and were always laughed at for the same reason. So sometimes when I watch drag I can feel that insecurity lurking, but at the same time I do realize that it's my own insecurity and perspective that's messed up. I genuinely think they don’t know the difference between drag and trans, etc. Its all lumped together in one big “scary” thing that’s super homophobic.
They keep on mentioning the big breasts because they hate the female body, they hate themselves. The internalized misogny is so intense, I can't image what their internal thoughts are like.
To play Devil's Advocate here, the Church teaches that women's bodies are shameful and partially caused the downfall of Mankind. It's easy to see why they have a problem with the 'female' form. Such religious beliefs are just a form of PTSD, IMHO. 🖤
But these women also seem a lot more judgemental than I was, so I think they take all that anxiety and project it onto others.
Less "am I godly enough" and more "OMG, Becky, look at how ungodly she is"
The worst thing is that so many women pull down other women because of their insecurities, envy, and jealousy. 90% of the insults that I've received all my life about my body and clothes came from other women.
And that's on religion sis
They were probably abused (or their mother's projected their body issues on them) and they do hate their bodies. Or, and this is even more ridiculous and seriously damaging, since they belong to a wacko church, they probably had to do one of those ceremonies where they had to pledge their virginity to their fathers.
As someone who was raised to be just like these two, there's something really healing about having an outside party acknowledge how fucked up it is.

As a guy I've seen the way women truly view/ treat feminine men. They don't want them or just use them for entertainment/ as an extra one of the girls. Fortunately I wasn't raised to be feminine but not being raised to be masculine has caused me so much struggle which I've spent ages having to work on. I wouldn't let my future son go through that.
Ok i think I have to write this down. I live in Greece. As a child in the 2000s (now aged 29) I took part in a amateur theatrical team that was organised and instructed by an actor who would occasionally do drag as part of his plays and was openly gay. He (preferred pronoun) would write amazing comedies, direct them and play in them and he managed two teams: an adult one and a underaged one. Kids would not see those plays where the jokes would turn a little adult alike. When we saw him doing drag it was an art form to us. We didnt think much of it. I also grew to not think much of someone being gay. To me being straight or gay was like someone being born with brown or red hair. No one was made to feel uncomfortable and no one had bad memories of it. Did we turn to sassy bitches ? We did. But that was all 💅. Imagine like almost 20 years back . People still love him and go to his plays. He taught me a lot about theater and I love him.
This is a message to everyone out there that thinks that a kid would get hurt or something. We are all fine and thriving. Him being his authentic self taught me to be unapologetic about my personality.
“do people go to therapy because they went to a drag show?” is a legendary perspective. i literally go to therapy heavily because i went to church and experienced, well, church things.
“Breasts that are way too large” and how does she feel about women that actually have these “overdeveloped” bodies naturally?
I should imagine they've been taught that it's shameful. Any kind of outward feminine sexuality is a no-no for the fundamentalists of any religion because men can't be trusted to control themselves so the women are shamed into feeling guilt about having those body parts or long hair in the first place. First rule of any religion - blame the women!
Probably thinks they're living in ain. 😂😂😂

Yep I grew up with very accepting parents but we went to church, well mum did and my brother and I went with her, and I learnt to feel ashamed of myself. Took me a long time to realise I was denying who I was because of internalised shame I learnt far too young.

I personally think it is such a compliment and honor that drag queens feel strong and empowered to dress and perform as woman. In a world where many men insult men by saying things like "you throw like a girl" or "your acting like a little girl" or "you sissy". Many men often refer to other men as being womanly as a way to insult them. So for those men out there... imagine how it is to be a woman and hear that you think it's a bad thing to be like a woman.... it really does make women feel like most men think we are inferior to them. The fact that drag queens often say that when they get dressed up as a woman and get to be a confident woman strutting the stage and performing their asses off like queens and it makes them feel empowered?... that is such a damn amazing compliment and I am so honored.
"I saw someone lip syncing with a puppet and now I'm not Christian anymore" had me CACKLING
The only reason they wouldn't be Christian anymore is because of all the BS that false Christians spew out making people not want to be like that.
That someone was james mansfield
I want this on a tee shirt so bad.

Omg I happened to read this comment as it happened in the video lol
I was harassed by several adult men at
church, but never at a drag show. 🤨🤷🏻♀️
I grew up in a very conservative area. Like, the progressive Mormon families were less strict than some of the Baptists kind of area. Lived next to a Baptist preacher that gave my mom the creeps...turned out he had multiple affairs with women he was giving marriage counseling to, and was caught by his daughter who suspected it, and had her husband follow him with a camera.
I'm sorry that happened to you
I hope you're ok :(
No really the way most drag queens respect women so much more than cis men do, enough that they’d be the last to ever harass a woman, despite how conservatives keep saying “cross dressers” only dress up to perv on women….
when i was crowned homecoming queen my senior year, I was booed and called slurs by random people in my small town, my peers, and the parents in the stands. when i went to my first drag show last week, all of the hurt that i endured was worth being able to be in a space where i wasn't judged and was celebrated for being myself. i was also raised catholic and the church really messed me up (so slay! loving catholicism!) seeing queens and kings in my community being truly and authentically themselves allows me to be myself too. (if this didn't make sense don't say a work LMFAO)
I spent so much time trapped in internalized misogyny; drag queens helped me to understand and appreciate the unique power of femininity. I’ve grown so much bc of drag ❤
it’s the way drag queens actually helped me embrace my femininity instead of hating it?? like i grew up in an environment where being feminine was “embarrassing” but after finding drag and watching trixie over the years, i’ve came to really love how feminine i am
This is how I feel about trans women. No one made me want to embrace my femininity and made me feel powerful in it until I saw a few trans women truly shine in their truth. I didn't realize how much shame I actually had about being female before then.
I dont know if there is an "Overton window" for gender expression but I completely understand what you mean. By expressing femininity in a way that is joyous, fun, and over the top, it makes our more every day expression of it feel more joyful too.
Big same
@@PrettyGuardian oh, gender is definitely on a spectrum! 😊💯!
that's so beautiful!!!
Ten years of attending the Mormon cult made me develop OCD and sent me to therapy. Watching drag healed my brain 💜💜💜
Oh my gosh…I developed scrupulous OCD too thanks to my religious and cultish upbringing. Glad to know I’m not alone and hope you’re doing well!! 🖤🖤🖤
Being raised Roman Catholic gave me OCD as well
Born and raised Mormon and am now currently working through the trauma it caused in therapy. Religion is a poison.
omg fellow exmo in the wild💖 sending all the love and healing
I also have OCD
My mom (rest her soul) took me to my fist drag show at 12
I only remember her coworker who did Cher
Was awesome
She really wasn't a fan of drag but was there for him because she loved her friend
I’m Christian and have gone to several drag Queen shows and LOVED them! I promise we are not all like this, I also respect Trixies maturity during this review ❤️
the best part is when she says “we tell kids anyone can be anything” and then has to try to find a way to make that sound like a bad thing
Literally like a Disney villain saying an objectively wrong thing in their speech so it can happen later. "Oh you really think friendship is going to save you" type beat.
Its bad because it's not true. For example, if you're a boy you can never be a girl
@@binkin7304 This comment was so on point that I laughed out loud.
You can almost SEE in her eyes the look of panic like, "Well I really stepped in it now, gotta follow through with this..."
@@PrettyGuardian I just wonder do these people not hear themselves when they speak? Just spitting pure evil without blinking
“Do people go to therapy because they went to a drag show?” As a person with church trauma this line is underrated.
Tell me about it
same
They should go to therapy, and many of them do
For some people drag is therapy.
@@becp488 no it isn't. They might act like it's therapy, but it's actively hurting them
“Speak truth and love” coming from them is RICH
I love how they always claim their opinions to be the truth and not just an opinion.

lmao ashley and ashley
Trixie, if I were in your position, I'd be so triggered and annoyed. You're so emotionally mature and calm, I hope to be like you one day.
I couldn't even watch the whole video because i wanted to throw something at those two girls
Honestly this stuff is so not new. Like girl defined portrays themselves as "brave" for speaking out about it but basically every Christian does so at a certain point it stops being that upsetting and just becomes funny lol
So true. She’s a class act
Oh my gosh every time I start to get heated I start remembering how dumb they sound and just laugh and go please let others see their blatant stupidity
And why do these bitches hate themselves so much???
I love trixie ❤
@@bookgirlny8511 queer people are used to this
I work as a youth worker at my local church on the side of my studies and I'm not gonna lie, as a bisexual woman I have never been sexualized as much in any lgbtq+ spaces as I have been at the church and the occasions it holds
Everyone should watch this video. The blatant uninformed hatred those two girls are directing at everyone who isn’t a cookie cutter copy of themselves is awful. Thanks for posting this Trixie.
I love how protecting ‘god’s design’ doesn’t stop them getting those shopping mall highlights.
I wonder also if the vast amount of rapists in the world was also "gods design" ? 🤔 he certainly doesn't seem to be doing anything to stop them. Same with serial killers, paedophiles, thieves etc

I do too! They give fake mean girls vibes

Truth. 💕💕💕💖
Speaking as a suspiciously large cis woman, the popularization of drag has been amazing for me because for the first time ever, I can actually FIND thigh-high stockings for a six-foot tall person. (Don't even get me started on shoes--I end up shopping in the men's section at the mall whether I like it or not.) I've nothing but gratitude for the drag community; so much cute stuff just wasn't made in my size that's now accessible to me because online stores are selling to queens.
OK but your comment is awesome, seriously I love it
I have never been able to relate to a statement more. I have the exact same problem. Nothing is ever long enough for me, and I wear a size 11 shoe. So happy that I can find things now.
As a 5’11” tall cis woman I feel this in my bones
Where did all this “cis” nonsense come from?? People shouldn’t have to apologise for being straight male or female. Too many made up labels these days, so silly.
Haha that's great I love that for you :) there's a king of the hill ep about that
As someone who has religious trauma from my Christian family not accepting me for my identity Girl Defined really pisses me off. Seeing these Christians use their religion to be hateful is really frustrating. Christianity is what what traumatized me not drag queens.
Wait until they learn that before women were allowed to act in plays, women were played by men.
idk if anyone else feels this way but as a cis woman watching drag has really helped me with body image and self esteem because drag queens embrace the female body in any shape without obsessing over size
Yes, this 100%. Trixie particularly has a way of seeing physical beauty in everyone, and this really was a reset for me. Drag/Trixie have taught me how to look at myself and SEE the beauty.
Drag has made me ashamed to be a woman
Wow...I never considered this
I have always been uncomfortable with my body no matter my age or size. dragcon 2018 Morgan McMichaels told me i had the most beautiful figure and signed my photo complimenting me on my "hour glass figure"😂My figure was very average, But her appreciation was 100% very real, i will never forget that. I pull the memory of that moment and complement anytime i need a confidence boost.
@@lydiajohnson4888 aw, that’s tough
It has never occurred to me that drag was something worth worrying about in a negative way. Ever.
Same, like Trixie said. It's just dressing up. I guess the conservatives are ....overreacting or something.
It’s the rights new talking point. A divisive issue to get everyone riled up and distracted from the people up top not doing their jobs
It wasn't until recent years when a bunch of people started insisting on involving kids in drag events.
@@crackkillspuppies no one is insisting it and they do have drag queens that have kid friendly material aside from the more mature ones. It's no different than someone dressing up for party entertainment.
@@crackkillspuppies what you consider family friendly and what they/the people who attend those events consider it is subjective. My point is no is being forced to go or be involved. So why are they being told to stop as a whole when, like many other things, it's something some people enjoy and others don't. And that's perfectly fine.
In the U.K., drag is a traditional part of theatre for children, especially at Christmas! The panto dame has existed since 1806 as a beloved drag character who is counted on to bring life to every performance. Panto theatre walks the line, being child-appropriate whilst still having a few Easter eggs (hidden adult jokes) for the parents.
There’s also a British military tradition of men dressing up as women to do comedy and theatre to make each other laugh. It was listed in officer’s manuals as a way to build morale and esprit de corps back in WW1 and WW2. Despite the popularity of RPDR and the stars like Trixie who have gone on to be massively successful, I can’t imagine most Americans not being a little unnerved if dressing up as women were suggested as a new military tradition.
Our empire and society in general may be in smoking ruins, but it isn’t the dame’s fault. Long may she reign!
They're women wearing pants... which was drag 100 years ago...
EXCELLENT POINT
Having grown up in a very conservative church, I am so tired of the assumptions they make due to breast size. As a child, I was repeatedly shamed because my mother _believed_ I would develop large breasts. Not to mention the way I was treated once I actually developed them.
The way conservative Christians sexualise kids is extremely creepy.
Glad someone is commenting on this. It is a very strange thing being shammed on something you cannot even control.
it's like they should've accepted glob's design or something
There are some sects / churches of Christianity that really act like you should hate yourself and be ashamed of yourself for having a rockin bod lol
Like what a contradiction to all the other teaching about loving yourself and others 😂🤦🏼♀️

Same. DD here.
Drag shows are my therapy. So much love for the drag community ❤🌈
7:57 I feel the same way as Trixie here. I'm a huge fan of horror movies. I think that they are a great expression of emotion and humanity. Most of them I wouldn't show to kids. But Goonies, Labyrinth, Neverending Story? They introduce us to unfamiliar concepts so we can grow into more mature people. Just like hearing a drag queen sing a song shows our minds that people come in many presentations and that's nothing to be afraid of.
