  • You have a piece of furniture that has been sealed with wax, and want to paint over it? Let me show you how to prep your piece and get that wax off!
Why I hate wax as a furniture paint sealer... this is what we will all be doing in a few years - stripping wax and repainting ;)

I've never worked with mineral spirits, but I just purchased a bottle because I need to remove some wax. After applying and rubbing it into the piece, do you need to rinse it before sanding?

Could you also use a mineral paint once the wax is off?

Can I use a palm sander to sand the surface instead of doing it by hand?

Hello Jenni! I have a question. I would like to paint over some night stands that have chalk paint and wax on them. However, they are a blue/teal color. I want to paint them with white chalk paint. What should I do? If I try to distress them, then the blue will show through. What is the easiest way to go about this? Thank you!!

First, you'll need to remove the wax. This is best done with mineral spirits to dissolve the wax, then a good sanding! You may want to just sand all the edges down to raw wood in this step so that when you distress the white you are back to wood. Once the wax is cleaned off you can paint! Hope that helps!

I enjoyed your video. I do have a question please. I have an older dresser, about 30 years old and I’m going to paint it with chalk paint but my issue is with the top. I would like to stain it to match the nightstand but I am horrified of stain. I think I saw somewhere a stain That was water-based. Could you help me please? Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thank you! Cathy from Georgia

Hi Cathy! Don't be scared of stain, you can do it! Here's my tutorial on using General Finishes Water Based Stain (it's my favorite): czcams.com/video/Grmaqgb1cbY/video.html
