Great explanation - am looking forward to Strategy Level 2 - Rock that looks like scissors, Paper that looks like Rock etc. It's all about what you sell to your opponent with your timing, size, speed of your preparation step(s).

Look to Epee, where it is all strategy and the only tactic is landing the foot-shot.

You can apply game theory 101 to your sabre. If you win the point always, always change your tactical choice. Counter-intuitive, but it works. Rock, paper, scissors - Monty Hall Problem etc.

Don't use "Rock, Paper, Scissor". Hard to associate each to the action. Better to use ABC. A = advance lunge. B = jump Back, C = chase (three advances and lunge). A beats C, C beats B, B beats A. Or, C > B > A > C... Also, B = jump Back is done as "full-advance, half-advance, jump the heck back" But variations include making a parry in lieu of jumping back. Safer to jump back since even a good parry might have the remise graze the cuff before the riposte can land within the lock-out time.

Rock paper scissors is a very uneducated way to explain saber. It's just not that.
