Well and anything that has “Seal” automatically means, once you purchase it, the buyer will also become a Navy Seal. They will also become expert marksman, have served in Panama, Bosnia, Gulf Wars, GWOT, and stared in Act of Valor. So, yeah….LMAO lots of cash 🤣

I could carry the double edge in my state. I think Buck screwed up on the decision to not sell to civilians. Maybe it’s because military/police deserve the tools they need to defend themselves and others. Surely no civilian would ever need to do that.

Just received my Buck 664 Alpha Hunter Elite in magnacut, G10 scales and kydex sheath (with Tek-Lok). Here's a quick review: Generally, a very, very nice knife - which it ought to be for $389 Cdn (taxes and shipping included). Factory edge is very sharp, and the fit and finish is as it ought to be for this price. The balance is quite good fore-and-aft with the balance point being just behind the centre of the deep finger choil. Generally quite comfortable in the hand, with multiple holding position options and options to choke up on the blade for finer/technical cutting. The deep finger choil on it is absolutely excellent by virtue of its depth, and the resulting proection and grip that if offers, and that design feature alone helps make this knife very good. The G10 scales are nice, and relatively grippy (far better than the Benchmade Hidden Canyon upscale version in S90V that I compared it with), but I'd still prefer an even grippier surface on these scales given that by design, the knife will be deep in the chest cavities of big game and becoming slick with blood and therefore more slippery than it would be just from rain water, by comparison. The bottom edges of the G10 scales (along the belly of the tang) are very sharp-edged along the length of the scales - while that may well help with overall grip and help prevent the knife from "rolling" in the hand with torsional forces, I can't help thinking it may end up digging into the hand and cause blisters or ar least, abrasion from extended use while field dressing a large animal. Instead, I'd have preferred the main checkering on the scales to be a bit rougher in order to provide that grip rather than those sharp edges. The spine could be use to strike a ferro rod in an emergency, so that's a plus. I'd have preferred the main deep choil to have jimping within it as well (e.g. like the Spyderco folders near the finger hole, or like the Civivi Baby Banter folder), for extra grip. The jimping on the spine (near the business end of the scales) is, oddly, noticeably wider (fore-and-aft) and less grippy than the jimping further along the spine toward the point. Not sure why Buck would do this, as the spine jimping nearest/within the handle scales does relatively little to enhance grip. The jimping closer to the point is a fair amount better because it's narrower, but I've still experienced much grippier jimping on other knives that I own. Lastly, the kydex sheath, while being reasonable in quality, doesn't quite retain the knife as strongly as it should to largely safeguard against loss. I am thinking I may have to carry the knife vertically on my belt rather than my preferred horizontal carry at my side, just to reduce the chances of it being lost in the field. So, overall, very good and nice knice, but with a few points worth considering. In my opinion, the two biggest design deficiencies are the rather lacklustre jimping on the spine and none in the finger choil, and the less-than-perfect knife retention in the sheath (the latter being a real bugaboo to me).

Back in the 60's Buck shipped 440c knives with cards explaining that softer, more high chrome steel (like 420hc) wasn't used because it doesn't perform adequately.
420hc like its Asian equivalents has a place for extreme corrosion resistance for salt water environments as well as rarely used reliability with good chipping resistance at low prices,, but broadly speaking of performance for a well used tool, I do side with CJ's ancestors.

Unfortunately, like Gerber, they are cheating towards Chinese Cr7 for the budget stuff to sell at Walmart. They need to stay away from the cheap Chinese junk steel. Stay USA made and up the quality even at the cost of quantity produced. Stay away from the Gerber model. Gerber = crap these days.
