      @@nathandjohnny Thank you guys & I am in a much better place. It's just that this song is an emotional wrecking ball & you don't see that a lot in metal. At least not like this.

    I personally lean toward Nath's side of this one, I don't enjoy over-the-top gore and violence, but this doesn't make me uncomfortable. I feel they displayed it fairly tastefully, where you're under no illusions, but it's not too over-bearing. Instead for me this is just over-whelmingly emotional and sad.

      I do love over the top violence and gore in my video games and movies, but this hit me in a similar way to you. It's just so sad and gutwrenching. I could see myself having the same thoughts and feelings if I were in that man's shoes.

    I'm with Johnny on this one. Anytime it's portrayed in a video or tv show, I feel uneasy and I also get weird feelings in my wrist when I see what the guy in the film clip did.

    I absolutely love the dichotomy of the two of you...one was made uncomfortable by the emotional "realness" of suicide, while the other found comfort in the normality of something real as opposed to the audacity of horror films...made my day, love you guys ...

    I had never really listened to Lorna Shore or watched any of their videos prior to hearing Pain Remains I. I got chills during both parts and I'm very curious to see what the final part will sound (and look) like. I feel that the self harm scenes were done very tastefully. They didn't show too much but they showed enough to convey the emotions the song and video are expressing. I lost my mom almost a year ago to cancer so watching both videos was emotional for me. I won't be surprised if part three is just as, if not more emotional to watch.
    Also wanna say huge, huge congrats to Lorna Shore for having (last I heard) a nearly completely sold out US headline tour as well coming up.

    Definitely see both Nath's view of I don't like gore for the sake of gore, and Johnny's view that suicide is more uncomfortable. For me I think it hits closer to home, I've lost a few people to suicide and worked at a crisis line for a number of years. It just sits heavier I guess.
    Thanks for getting me into Lorna Shore and massive thank you for being open for this difficult conversation.

    Yeah this video just hits differently. Everyone, in some way, has had to deal with suicide. Whether it was a friend, family member, or yourself, everyone has unfortunately experienced it. Me personally, mom and dad have tried 4 times, sister once, lost several friends to suicide. It's quite a touchy subject for me and many.

    In October 2015 I lost one of my best friends to his battle against depression and yeah... he died with 23 years and I still have our WhatsApp chat saved and stuff like that and I'm very honest: These two Lorna Shore songs got me f*cking cry and most of the time I'm always like that one dude who basically never cries but that really got me. I'm totally with you when it comes to the topic about suicide. Horror movies (as extreme as they get) still have that "camera team behind the corner" kinda feeling, since the overdosed violence often feels unreal, even during the fact that it also happens in reallife. But suicide with the sad "emotional component" always connected to it as Nath said, always feels so much more "real" - also because it's like always around us. I think everyone knows someone who had or has depression or even has these problems by himself. The whole topic is always there. Beside of that Lorna Shore made a really, really good job to transfer these exact emotions from that video to your heart... it's like a beautiful Deathcore ballad and a deep-dark drama at the same time - so, so good (and I mean now both songs combined, since it's like one story splitted in 3 parts at the end of the day).

  • @grievuspwn4g3
    @grievuspwn4g3 Před rokem

    I find the "I-own-shares-in-Ketchup" end generally less confronting than more understated violence, just because it's usually so exaggerated from the sort of violence that is generally being portrayed (people I've seen run over haven't generally exploded gore in a 5km radius, there is footage of an American politician who held a press conference and shot himself which I personally found sad rather than repulsive).
    This trilogy though has sold me on the emotional arc of the character - in the song he's at his nadir, which the video portrays with the suicide attempt in the church.

    Honestly, I was fine with the 'violence' much like Nath, I've had my own run ins with suicide, depression etc etc (much better now, that dark past is my PAST for a reason, thankfully), but on my first watch, I didn't really get shocked, and just like Nath, can't do horror/gore. Idk, I was just so entranced and 'connected' to the song that I didn't even notice it. Had me hook, line and sinker honestly.

    Im with Nath with feeling uneasy about the visuals. Not because it’s over the top but because it is tame and grounded.

  • @pm9326
    @pm9326 Před rokem +6

    the final part of the trilogy is over 9 minutes long, so we won't be getting a shorter song, but i do think based on the title "In A Sea of Fire", it will be sonically heavier than the first two songs, but still as emotionally heavy. any kind of blood/gore makes me uncomfortable, and while the music video is hard to watch, it needed to done. i wish youtube didn't age restrict it..that's their solution to everything. while i'm glad youtube finally included a trigger warning, struggling with mental health isn't specific to age.

    A former girlfriend of mine almost accidentally took her own life this way. She cut herself during a difficult phase in order to feel something. She didn't necessarily want to kill herself, she simply didn't care if it could happen. One evening, a cut was higher and deeper than planned. She lost a lot of blood, but survived. Today she is no longer part of my life, because I could no longer deal with her psychological suffering and slid further and further down the slope myself. I really tried and did everything, but sometimes there are still feelings of guilt.
    It's hard to watch this, but this song and its message kinda helps. For a brief moment I understand what went on in her head.

    At this very day, at about this exact time, I first learned a thoroughly loved ex-GF of mine took her own life just a few days earlier. Oct. 6th is the day I want to get taken out of the calendar. But that won't ever be done. What probably CAN be done, is reaching more people by also including Wikipedia's List of suicide crisis lines, next to the National suicide prevention hotline. Lorna Shore have never been a group I can get behind. I find it difficult to truly pick out the beauty in what I hear. It starts to feel like all the songs sound the same.
    The song does tell a good story though. It’s difficult to watch. Haven’t felt like that since Sleeps’ ‘Eye To Eye’.
    I actually went to see Parkway and Sleeps last weekend, and Lorna opened. Admittedly, they sound identical live to their recordings - which is a huge compliment for the singer.
