Muay Thai has higher ranges of attack, literally close, medium and long ranges because the clinching is a factor. They can also use the same kicks as karate practitioners and its considered completely legal. Its karate but better.

If you can, go to the closest muay thai gym and train, or if you cannot watch Silvye von Douglas-ittu videos: they may teach you a lot more than just watching kickboxing (that definitely it's not Muay Thai)

As I already suggest you, take a look at Silvye videos, she trained and still train with golden era muay thai legends like Dieselnoi and Karuhat, and besides the fact that she's creating the biggest Muay Thai library in the world she's also a fighter with almost 300 fights.
