Ripped from cassette tape
In 1978, Rod released solo album ‘Moving Home’ with many well-known musicians, including Genesis drummer Phil Collins and Weather Report bassist Alphonso Johnson.
This is NOT an «Argent» album; it is a «Rod Argent» album, his first official solo project after which he retreated into session work shadows for a whole decade It is not all that far removed from Circus and Counterpoints. Moving Home closes the book that was started in 1969.
The legacy of Argent (the band) is all over this album: lush balladry, portentous attitudes, and jazz-fusion textures are on every track, sometimes even all of them at the same time. There is a lot of drive to make a really big statement. On an album where Rod Argent is responsible for the keys, Phil Collins for the drums, and Gary Moore for the guitars, testosterone is obviously running high on a permanent basis.
The song “home” is a minor classic, and deserves inclusion on any collective Zombies/Argent anthology. ʽHomeʼ has a nice, soulful vocal part and almost gospel harmonies in the background. Synthesizers are used as a substitute for strings and church organ at the same time, and produce a fine effect.
ʽSilenceʼ is a nice upbeat art-pop song, with a great synth bass line and several layers of electronic keyboards where pianos and older-fashioned Mellotrons work effectively.
The «modern jazz» number ʽI’m In The Moodʼ benefits from some pretty neat Phil Collins percussion.
ʽWell, Well, Wellʼ it is a piece of piano-driven funk aiming for a «badass» attitude (the lyrics seem to be a harsh attack on musical criticism)
ʽSummerʼ is a memorable, cute-sounding piano ballad with ethereal vocals, and ʽTendernessʼ - decent, medium-fast moving Brit-pop reminiscent of classic ELO.
Rod seems to have exercised good taste and restraint in his complex mix of acoustic, electric, and digital instruments. Worth owning by Rod fans!
One of my favourite albums and I just listened to it , driving home !
I bought it when it was released in 1978 and I never get tired of this faboulus Rod Argent album ... never !
Absolutely marvellous
This album was played in my house when I was a young kid
My father was a musician and a luthier as his business making handmade guitars and bass guitars
Stuck with me this and feel very fortunate to have had exposure to lots of sublime music ❤
Phil is such an underrated drummer. That groove on No.1. Thanks for resurrecting and sharing this cassette.
Just doing my part to fill in all the corners of the internet. We looked for this the other night and couldn't find it so I decided to be the change that I sought. So glad and not surprised you are the first to respond!! (No. 1 is definitely the stand out track.)
@@langdonboom I thank you from my heart Matthew! ;)
why do you say or think that ? au contraire, phil collins is very, very appreciated as a drummer
@@gelubatir9794 Fine, very appreciated. But not very, very appreciated.
@@StevenSclafani listen to Argent Counterpoints here on CZcams Phil is all over that amazing album.
Thank you for uploading!
I love this album, but it has never been released on CD. And I couldn't find it in subscription. Great music, great musicians.
Just filling holes on the internet! Glad to be of service.
Thank you so much for uploading this truly fantastic album... first time I have heard it since I first bought it some 40 yrs ago...brings back some wonderful memories, a very honest and happy album with such great musicianship.
Beautiful,my Young Time ...
I love this album! Still have it on vinyl but haven't owned a turntable since 1986, and it looks as though it will never be released on cd. Anyone know why it hasn't been released?
I've been asking that same question for years, even to Rod himself..! But so far no luck...
Im so exciting to get Agent Music !
One of my fave albums ever. Oh for a Steve Wilson remaster of this.
A well crafted album with excellent musicians... thanks, man!
I had this album back in the day, and I really liked it.. it has all kinds of styles within jazz and prog.. right up my alley.

Oh yeah.. groovin woohoo ✅✅✅✅✅💥
thanks for the upload. coincidentally, it was good timing as i didn't know about this album until i recently saw an ad for it as i was going through late 70's uk music weeklies
Oh boy perfect for the sophisticated 1970's HiFi. People were the shite back then!
Lovely album and many thanks for posting. My understanding is that the track "Well, Well, Well" was written about the famous gig Argent did at the Roundhouse for the release of Circus, which got terrible reviews. Apparently the areas set aside for the reviewers from the music press, was over-run by the audience, so those irritated/sensitive reviewers’ collectively decided to slag the gig off - they never even went in and watched the gig.
Thats interesting , I did not know that ., some great wacky jazzy funky stuff on this album , and great percussion . chris.
"Summer" is indeed a good track....
Excelente! 👍
yeah an odd album , but still quite brilliant , very limited , stilted release here in australia , especially cause his band Argent were relatively unknown , , , I love some of the tracks on this album , and have looked for it in cd form , , but I don't think that exists , I had the L.P. but god knows where that is , thanks so much for uploading this , because commercials just ruin albums like this . 8 outa 10'
A stunning album, and one of my all-time favourites... But you try to find it on CD..! Impossible, and a pain as my vinyl copy now worn out..! Thank Heavens for youtube though..! 😃
Just fulfilling my duty for humanity!
@@langdonboom Thank you Sir..! 😀
And Pastorius Mentioned...?! Wow.... i just get totally lost in that fretless bass intro.... What a beautiful song..! 🥰
ps. not quite sure who "Patrorious" is LOL..! 😉 Maybe a distant cousin of Jaco... 😄
@@telegrampam haha! Its his less talented cousin! whoops, will edit - thanks!
A big shame that it isn´t available as a cd (and hav never been as far as i know). An iconic albul. If not epical.
An absolutely brilliant album that never really made it. Is it available anywhere else apart from CZcams?
Not as far as I know, I captured this from a cassette tape!
@@langdonboom the quality is excellent, considering it is from a cassette tape. Thanks for posting.
@@charleslsegal Yes, I cleaned it up a bit digitally. Glad you enjoyed it!
I used to have this on vinyl. Such a nice record. I would compare it a bit (although different in style) to Dave Stewart and Barbara Gaskin initial efforts in the sense that it's more oriented towards a "mature" audience...
Can anyone please tell me where i could find the lyrics?
I'm a big fan of Argent but found this album disappointing and boring compared to their previous stuff. Too much of a commercial feel to it.
Hi spirit ,,,, click on the [ show more ] icon , where the the song list is . And you will get a good rundown on the man and his band called Argent .
keep listening spirit ,, it may grow on you , . some great music on this record.
I have to disagree. I’m a big fan of Argent’s keyboard sounds, this album has a more diverse range of styles. It grows on you. The track ‘Silence’ is a masterpiece and Phil Collins drumming is exceptionally good.
