- Adagio in A-flat Major for Brass Quintet, performed by Dan Christensen, Savannah Ramsey, Caroline Cummings, Chris Hass, and Kenny Burris and recorded by Zach Hummel.
Program Notes:
My first composition, this piece is an exploration of tonal harmony and suspensions/anticipations, featuring the minor 9th chord as the principal motif. Originally written for my high school's senior brass quintet, this piece is perfect for intermediate ensembles working on intonation, balance, and blend.

This is, hands down, my favorite brass Quintet piece.
You're very kind! I appreciate it!
This piece makes me teary.... May God bless the inventor of brass instruments.
Wow, I didn't expect to stumble into such a pretty piece while just searching up examples of a brass quintet as reference for a composing challenge. This is great!
My ensemble played this last year and all of us absolutely loved it. We all agreed that it was our favorite piece we’ve ever played and we play it just for fun all the time. An absolutely amazing piece
Wow, that's very sweet! I'm glad your quintet enjoyed working on the piece!
Absolutely beautiful! Oh how I miss performing with my friends, this is something we totally would have loved to do!
It's never too late!
I loved playing this song for madrigals
Can’t wait to play this with my quintet!!!
very beautiful creation. rhymically, and melodically it is stunning. thank you
I'm so glad I found this. Truly an extremely talented guy the composer is. BRAVO!
I appreciate it!!
Im playing the tuba/bass trombone part in this song in one of the quintets I’m in , absolutely love it
I'm so glad to hear it! Let me know how the performance goes!
A brass quintet at my school is performing this for a competition. It sounds really cool!
Awesome! What high school?
Love playing along to this as part of a warm up on tuba! I have a trombone I'm starting to practice on as well, and this seems simple enough I could work it out once I get the slide positions down!
This sounds wonderful! The way you compose using these instrument is splendid. Thanks for inspiring me to start learning about the brass quintet or brass section.
I really appreciate it! Glad the piece resonated with you!
Wow. I can’t believe I haven’t listened to this until just earlier. And this was your first composition? Truly beautiful piece
Thanks for listening, Jeremy! Yep, this was my first composition that actually turned out okay, written my senior year of high school!
beautiful
This is such an amazing piece of music. wish i could perform with our brass workshop.
Thank you, glad you enjoyed it!
Such a beautiful piece.
Thank you!
So pretty
I saw a video of a string quintet that had the same melody as this and I got worried but then I saw that this was uploaded 5 years ago and the other thing was 1 year ago 😅 I love this music tho keep it up 👍❤
Oh wow! Not sure if that was intentional or if this is just a simple melody that could have been replicated accidentally. What was the other piece?
@@cehass11it was also just called adagio in Ab major

My friends and I are gonna do a brass (almost) quintet for S+E this year. We don't have a trombonist so we're gonna have the trombone part transposed for tenor sax.
That's great! If you want to email me at cehass11@gmail.com I can send you a transposed part!
Nice! I plan on performing all the parts to learn performing by myself; as ive finally gotten a french horn to complete my brass quintet collection
That's amazing! Let me know how it goes!
This gorgeous piece is being played by a few friends of mine for our school's winter concert! (The waiting bit in between ensembles) It sounds so lovely, and you did a wonderful job composing this!! I'm scouring the internet for a saxophone transcription😅
Most likely would have to create your own, wouldn't be too hard with musescore, just would take a bit of time writing it all out
@@graydhd8688 Yeah, I figured so :)
Aww beautiful, will you please show a tutorial about arranging the music for brass quintet on sibileus? Is it necessary to create piano part to arrange any song for brass quintet or wind band?
This is such an amazing arrangement! How can I get ahold of a copy to play with my school's ensemble?
Thanks so much! It is available here:

I can't believe you wrote this in high school. It sounds way better than the song I wrote my senior year too
I did revise the piece a few years after originally writing it, but I know I got really lucky with this piece turning out how it did. I think so much of composition is intuition, so always follow that!
Essa partitura tem copyright??
Quero tocar ela com meus amigos e postar

The beginning of the piece is quite nice; the relationship between the opening horn melody does very well against the rest of the Quintet. The suspension is especially nice. I do find that it seems a bit repetitive; maybe change key into the medient or a completely different let into a more contrasting theme? Overall a decent enough piece, but seems to lack depth.
I'm still sad I couldn't go to state with this piece 🥺
Likewise! I’m glad you at least had the chance to perform at Regional S&E.
