- Put on your blue suede shoes and listen to the smooth sounds of the unmistakable Gretsch.
2 Gretsches that look the same and play very similar. If you look over the guitars closely you can see quality and aesthetics differences between the two.
Thank you to Jimi & Sive at Jimi's Music store in Ballymount Dublin for allowing us to put on our "wicked game" with these 2 lovely lasses.

Bought that same model in 2017, orange, 5420T electromatic, korean Gretsch and I've lived happily ever after...
I just bought G5420T in Aspen Green. The only thing I couldn't live with was the bridge (bridge rattle and tuning instability) but that was an easy fix. I just put a rolling bridge on. Couldn't be happier.
@@jamesmcgrath1952 hey which rolling bridge is a good fit?
I just recently got a Korean Electromatic 5120. I have to say I was never a Gretsch guy, but this guitar is a real dream. It feels and plays and sounds great, and holds it's tune. The stock pick ups sound fine even though I'm swapping them out for Blacktop Filertrons because to my ear the black tops are brighter. But the stock pickups are fine as they come from the factory. I reevaluated my thoughts on Gretsch after I got this one.
Before swapping out.....try increasing the treble on the amp....
Agree completely! I bought 5120 custom limited edition jimmyC. I sounds great!
@@user-nm3xe9cx9n Since this post I added 2 more to my collection. An anniversary duo jet, and a 5622T which I put TV Jones pups in. They're fantastic guitars!
2 min ago I didn't know which one should I buy...then you come and play and I listen to both guitars... Immediately fell in love with the sound of the one in the left and thought "geez.... That's
Is the one from Japan, sounds like heaven" and then you come and say "Mine is from Korea"
I'm done! Thank you so very much!!! đđ
I had the 5420t for almost 2 years. Excellent guitar
What I take away from this video is that the cheaper one will get the job done without a lot of compromises.
You can always replace the hardware on a 5420 to make it look and sound similar if not better than the 3k+ gretsches.
I own a Japanese 6120 with De Armond pickups such as this one. Played through a Fender Blues Jr.... Killer!
The Korean made Gretsch are excellent for the money. The Japan pro line Gretsch is perfection. Just depends on how much you wanna spend. The Japanese are about $1000 more on an eBay buy, but the quality is unmatched.
Better than the American.
WELL DONE!!! Two Gretsch's being played PROPER.. LOVE IT
Wicked game never sounded so good before, that was great
The solo on wicked games is actualy played on a vintage Fender Strat and not like on the official video on a Gretch!
I have them both. Both are awesome.
Out..F'ing...standing. I love this song from Chris and you treated her beautifully. Great job
Kevin Gamache Thank you Kind Sirđđ
While the Japanese made Gretsch has nicer "accouterments", I would much rather buy the Korean Electromatic and if I wanted to I would upgrade parts and still come out way ahead.
im in love woth these guitars
me too and Im a strat player
Had a Gretsch 5422 before I got a G6120T-59 Vintage Select. If I had to choose, the Vintage Select wins. The V neck is really smooth and the overall feel and tone of the guitar is just awesome. Not to mention the rocking TV Jones classics. That's my few cents worth, cheers.
I agree, those Japanese built Gretsches are Fantastic instruments
I own two Japanese Country Gent's, both are terrible in the intonation issue. I had to move the bridge towards the bigsby by drilling new holes for the pegs (about 5mm away). But my Chinese Electromatic Duo is excellent. I didn't have to adjust anything. Very well crafted and smooth.
0-1 to the electromatic đ
Most of the Japanese Country Gents come with the (uncompensated) rocker bridge for reasons of authenticity - the Gretsch Adjust-o-matic was not available until the Gibson patents ran out on the Tune-o-matic in 1973. The metal portion of any Gretsch bridge can be replaced with the equivalent Gibson Tune-o-matic (ABR-1) bridge, which is available from any of the big-box guitar stores. Just be sure to match the post and string spacing on your guitar. You must also match the radius of the fingerboard on your guitar, but this is usually not a problem because most modern Gibsons and Gretsches share the same 16" radius. Best practice would be to take your guitar to the local guitar store and see the tech guy in the repairs department to get a perfect fit.
These sound gorgeous together
I have a Peerless Gigmaster custom,,,about as close as to a white falcon as you can get,,,korea really is knocking out top notch kit.
I have the electromatic and I love it. It sounds great and has a lovely action, though I think the pickups on the Japanese guitar have the edge. The master volume on the Korean model has a âtreble bleedâ, which means you donât lose the higher frequencies when turning it down.
Zoog Bollweevil They have different pups. Blacktops in the Electromatic, Dynas in the pro model, hence a difference in sound.
They both sound good, though!
My model Doesent have the treble bleed and I don't miss it it's always full on the volume ,I control the overall loudness from the amp or the pre amp audio interface.
I have the Electeomatic it's a great great guitar. Really killer guitar. Love mine.
Iâve got the 5622T and sheâs my baby.
Both are very nice, love the 6120 Chet Atkins, Duane Eddy or Setzer models.
Iâm very lucky to own a 2nd hand 6120W57. As a backup I later bought a5120, also 2nd hand. There are several cosmetic and structural differences between the two but it only make me admire them that much more; however, I do find myself picking up the 5120 a lot more. It seems lighter and the sustain is great. Pickups arenât all that bad, either, for stock. Itâs just a fun guitar to play around the house and while gigging. And if it got broke, itâs cheaper to replace.
I always wanted a Gretsch, bought a used 5120 off Reverb with: TV Jones pickups and wiring, rocker bridge, and a really nice Gretsch hard case. This is a 2008 Korea build, which is flawless, and had a mahogany neck back then too (new ones are maple?) - which I prefer, plus a beautiful dark Indian rosewood fretboard. The neck feels wonderful, a full C shape - not too big, not too small (Goldilocks would dig it), and frets are medium/jumbo, rounded and level. For all that I paid $600 on Reverb, while a 6120 would cost me up to 10x more (prices on Gretsch custom shop instruments $5-12,000USD (really!). The sound of a Gretsch is like no other, the clarity and fullness without harshness is beautiful to hear..........!
great jam guys, great vibe!
Not mention the Japanese one has the DeArmond style (probably TV Jones T'Armond) single coils, whereas the Korean made gets Blacktop Filter'trons
The Japanese has a thicker and bigger sound. I'll go for the Japanese one as always very high quality design!
Beautiful. Used to see Chris play in the clubs in San Francisco.
daikuone Thank you kind Sirđđ
Very beautiful I very much like the fact it sounds
im loving the tune.... real sweet....
Thank you Kind Sir

ÂŁ2,427Japanese Gretsch 6120T here in the UK but sounds awesome
2.5k would buy a pretty crappy car here in the UK. Think I'd much rather buy a 6120 and walk everywhere .. haaa
It comes in an excellent case!
List price is closer to $4G in the USA (due, of course, to the slightly lower value of the dollar) but most of the G6120 models hit the street at around $3G.
you guys still made them sound geat
Thank you Kind Sirđđ€
Very beautiful guitar s
Iâve got the 5129 itâs a beautiful instrument
good evening.
I visited with the introduction of Daniel Carr.
Gretsch still sounds good.
Was it a comparison between Japanese and Korean products?
Both are good!
You need to play them one at a time. with two playing it is way to much noise to tell the difference. Also you have the microphone difference and the guitar on the front sounds better with which ever guitar in in the front.
Lol...đ...old video, but I don't think beat it classifies as rock...but I'll admit you did rock it up a little.
Beautiful
Have a merry christmas and a rocking new year guys.
Thanks man and you and yours dude!
Thank you kind Sirđ. Enjoy the season.
Tokai
Great vid. Bought the cheaper myself. Clear pick guard, a giraffe skin strap & a couple of decals & good to go. Shoot the bass player? âđŒđđ¶
He played that on a strat just FYI about the song. I thought it was a Gretsch for yearsâŠ.
Nice one fella's happy xmas
Henry Hartley Thank you kind Sir. And to you and yours
Two different guitars first G5420T is 5 ply laminated maple, blacktop Filtertrons which are humbuckers ,and the G6120T is 3ply maple laminated for more resonance and DynaSonic single coil pickups and many other small differences, like electronics and so on.
You are so right â đđ.
What's the name of the first intro song please. Sounds so familiar
Skelter Gaming Chris Isaak- Wicked Gameđđ
Hard to find a bad sounding 6120.
Apparently true since the G6120 here would be more closely identified with guitars of the early 1950s as it has single coil DeArmond style pickups with the (uncompensated) rocker bridge, vs the humbucking Filter'tron pickups paired with the Adjust-o-matic bridge (not available on a Gretsch guitar before 1973 although the Filter'tron pickups were introduced around 1960). The bridge that is not represented here is the "space control" bridge, which was similar to the "rocker" bridge, but had some additional parts on it to adjust the space between the strings at the bridge. The Japanese line always offers G6120s from every era in the Gretsch history of the model, the Korean line tends to hold to the models of the 60s, with the addition of the Adjust-o-matic bridge, which Gretsch could not offer until 1973 because of the Gibson patents on the Tune-o-matic.
Those pickups are a totally different type and can't be compared
kozzicosgrovemusic of course they can. You'd be surprised how similar they sound. Besides, replacing the pickups is pretty cheap and easy process if it bothers you that much.
LOL they sound exactly the same.
What about g6122 George Harrison brother
I see a scarf joint
Iâm gorrrn
I cringed with fear when he started pulling on the Bigsby like it was a Floyd Rose.
Lovely playing and lovely guitars. :)
And now they are made in China. Of course they still cost the same though.
I love how they are NOT MADE IN CHINA.
Why??? Nothing wrong with the Gretsch guitars made in China, ie the pro jets and duo jets. Its about quality control, not where they are made.
Donât buy stuff from china. Donât support slave labor
@@sandrabecht4489thatâs why I donât buy US instruments. Poor quality and they are slaves to capitalism
The past 5 years have been mixing a cocktail of putting American built expensive guitars to shame. It really is a SHAME our US of A is being swept under the rug in the guitar industry. Only the real Vintage are actually worth the small fortunes they represent. The fact young artist that donât know better are spending say $2000+ on Gibsons that only float on their long ago reputation. The same guitar and sometimes a better guitar can be purchased for under $1000, and even UNDER $600. The industry landscape has drastically changed due to machines and technology giving small name startups the same advantages that Big brands only had in their possession a time ago. Donât believe everything you read or see online. Gibson will smoke and mirror you and youâll be out $2500. For the matter, donât believe my post either, but do give yourself a bit of learning today and research one or all of these brands quality and pricing. AIO WOLF, IYV, Harley Benton and Firefly. Itâs brand like these that prove there are unbelievable Quality Amazing guitars for sale equivalent to the ones you are drooling over but canât afford..and they are but a fraction of the price. I own Fenders, Ibanez, Gretch, Guilds, Schecter, but find my WOLF LP and my IYV PRS tonality and playability above and beyond what most expensive guitars cost. Sure itâs a draw sometimes as with the Ibanez and Fender, but this is up to your hands. Give it some time and effort and youâll thank me someday for finding this post. Unless your just sold out for the Gibson name or any other Big brand that overprices their guitars because they can!?
Jam ON
My Korean Gretsch goes out of tuneâŠ.
How about one had single coils and one has humbuckers...Wow.. You can't compare these two guitars...there're two different instruments....yikes
Keep that positive attitude going
take the stupid tuner off for god sake
They sound like banjos
