Daedalus Labyrinth Escaped Solo: Faster than Redstone

- Daedalus Labyrinth is the largest prison constructed in Minecraft (as of 2022-03-15), giving the prisoner freedom to use almost any item but defended via two miles of banned outer walls and redstone to monitor if a player ever attempts to break their bed, triggering lockdown and banning the entire cell.
To avoid this, I build a TNT cannon that ignites 2 TNT charges in rapid succession to quickly and consistently break through the 8 observer thick mining detector, destroying the activated observers from the first blast just barely before they have a chance to activate lockdown. The TNT cannon uses only a stack of TNT, 4 for the first blast, and 28 as a "hammer" to fire the remaining 32 down at 320 m/s.
To tunnel through the remaining observers and noteblocks, I use the property that TNT minecarts do not blow up blocks with rails on top, protecting all noteblocks but destroying enough observers to dig deeper. There are likely other ways to get through this section, but this was the most consistent I could find.

Disclaimers:
- The escape uses a shulker box of items, this could be provided by a gift from an outside helper, but items are also be given to the prisoners occasionally by the guards, so this should not be necessary. The contents of the shulker box are shown here: snipboard.io/sZxekI.jpg. The pickaxe enchant must be Efficiency III for the repeater timings shown to work.
- The escape was done in multiple segments using world backups, I mainly ended up needing this to test/fix a small mistake when building the TNT cannon.
- I gave myself an Efficiency 10 pick to break the obsidian faster in the TNT minecart section, because it takes a really long time with my method. This was just to speed up recording, and obviously is not needed for the escape.
- About half of the TNT minecart section was skipped using commands, because it is very repetitive and also fairly easy to accidentally press a note block if you're not careful. All 8 layers would be broken in exactly the same way shown in the video.
- The escape was done on a vanilla, singleplayer world. I am not an expert on Paper, and cannot guarantee that the exact same redstone device and timings would work on a Paper server. However, even if there are slight discrepancies, I see no reason why they could not be fixed with slight alterations to the cannon.

1st. Valid
2nd. This is literally the coolest escape Ive seen for any prison. Very well executed and explained. The pacing was very nice and I love the whole concept. Does mean I might have to put sand on the blacklist though-
Wow, thank you! That praise means a lot.
This was really fun to edit and out together.
Also I imagine by adding sand to thr blacklist, you also mean adding TNT lol
put
gunpowder on blacklist
@@mysterytime2729 creepers can spawn
No sand means no concrete 😔
imo the better way to patch this is just to improve the foor detector. adding layers of redstone dust or noteblocks and removing layers of crying obsidian could do this. also, having sideways observers like a perception box could work. you could even put tnt at various points in the detector such that the explosion would spread to the side and activate more observers.
Allowing prisoners to have a lot of items makes solo prisoner escapes significantly more interesting
agreed!
Daedalus Labyrinth: *has measures to stop and lock you the second you start breaking out*
Electra: *_outspeeds the redstone mechanism that locks you_*

Really cool escape, loved how it showed what was happening each redstone tick
If you dont make it big in the prison community I'll be genuinly suprised. In an era of valid escapes that most have already done before, this stands out
Thanks! I'm glad people liked the editing and stuff
Not sure if ill make any other escapes / prisons / whatever, I've been spectating for a while with random ideas and this one was just too good to pass up i guess idk? It was fun to do so I suppose if I get any other cool ideas I might try to make a vid of those as well, idk lol
@@electra_ dude if you learned how to build good prisons you would be op lmao

@@electra_ spectating is a understatement lol you i have seen you lurking in them comment sections
This is freaking sick! Awesome work. It's so cool to see your creative strategy-making shine in other games
Yo thanks!
The tnt minecart strategy is pure genius. Observers unfortunately are still not powerful enough for being completely break-proof, and the tnt strategy was a good way to exploit that.
I could have also used the TNT cannon on the noteblock-observer layers (and this would be necessary if they were any thicker since one layer of observers would trigger the next one) but since it was just 1 thick of observers, I knew there had to be a better way, and this was a fun one.
Very annoying to actually do because you need to dig such a large radius, I gave myself a cheated pickaxe just to mine the obsidian faster and still skipped half of it lmao. Some people were saying you could do it with pure TNT minecarts and not rails but I could never get that to work.
@@electra_ Is there a chance of failure though? Unless the noteblock and observer always perfectly absorbs the tnt minecart's rays
There is no chance of failure. All noteblocks are protected from TNT via the rails, meaning only the observers can get broken.
@@electra_ I meant breaking the next layer of noteblocks, triggering the observes the layer below it.
There's crying obsidian in between which absorbs the entire explosion.
YOO i didnt expect to see you here definitely surprised me
my guy went from playing tetris to escaping the largest prison in minecraft
agree with everyone else insane tbh i have never seen an escape with such precise timings before
also once i heard the FTL music boot up i was like "ah shit this ones gonna be good"
Thanks!
Curious what you mean by "didnt expect to see you here"... just from seeing me in comments of stuff, or did you know about my Tetris thingies before this lmao
@@electra_ kinda both lol
I got nostalgia from the music and editing, it felt like FTL.
a lot of this vid was intentionally calling back to FTL lol
This is the best escape i’ve seen to any prison. Well done.
Thank you so much!
The parallels to FTL are too good! Insane job
Also how did you build the machine in one take???
Thanks! FTL is such a good vid and it worked so perfectly as an inspirstion here
also i didnt quite, i needed to reinforce the blast shaft with crying and i was missing 1 restone dust. had to reload a backup a couple times to find those and i didnt show it cuz it would have been awkward cuts. But I did build almost all of it perfectly and im happy with that. Didnt even go off a reference it was just fresh in my mind from lots of creative testing
I just checked the comment section and this guy is hearting and replying to every comment so that's some dedication. This video is insane and i really enjoyed the style of it. Can't wait to see more of your escapes!

@@mysticalnexus1881 yeah i wouldnt have been too shocked if there was some mistake i made either tbh
I've been following this thing since the beginning, watching all the prison videos and being very interested, theorizing a couple of escapes but never really doing anything with them, just being a spectator
but idk i had this escape idea and i thought it was cool, everything came together
- lots of ideas have involved tnt cannons, especially inspired by faster-than-light
- i really wanted to think of an escape for daedalus because i felt like there had to be something really cool. first idea was foxes but the biomes accounted for that. also had the idea of a chunkskip cannon but kenadian mentioned that so it was like.... yeah no thats kinda boring anyway lol. and then i had this one and it was just... perfect
- also i just really like editing stuff to fit music so prison escape cinematic was aperect thigny

sonderling do be a banger
good job! :D
Thanks!
Really enjoyed this escape.
Had a really good demonstration of it all. I just have a couple of questions.
1. How long did it take to do the prison escape itself?
2. Considering the scenario that other players exist in this prison as well (assume a 2B2T-esque environment), how would you go about this differently so as to prevent players from chunk banning you during this process?
Thanks!
1) The TNT cannon took me like an hour to build. It didnt work first try and I had to reload a backup to fix something, but if I built it more methodically this could be avoided.
Digging down at the end I didnt do all of, I gave myself a faster pickaxe since mining obsidian was slow, and i skipped a few layers because it still took a while (what I did took about 20 mins but also I messed it up by clicking a note blick eventually, I know how to avoid this risk though.)
With proper preparation with a faster pick and haste 2 beacon, I think this phase would take 1-2 hours. In total, you could probably do it in 3 hours if going fast or 4 if you were being extra careful.
2) Chunk bans are not allowed in the cell, as creating them could allow prisoners to do powerful exploits with them (duping, banning guards, corrupting chunks). Other players could see you building the cannon and attack with standard PVP, but I dont consider this an issue. Guards dont check the cell very often, and other prisoners could be offered a chance at freedom if they helped out.
See Kenadian, this is why we don’t give prisoners items smh
but its fun tho :D
means if solo escapes exist they wont be boring af lmao

The fact you can build a literal hammer in vanilla survival and that it can destroy roof detectors is just awesome.

you should rename the video to (i had to go FASTER then redstone to ESCAPE the BIGGEST PRISON in Minecraft)
nah, i dont like clickbait stuff like that. this title is generally in keeping with most escape videos i think
For his shulker, the shulker would've been in his echest or lost it in his killcheck
you are allowed to bring items into this prison so long as they dont contain certain items which this avoided
4:03 How do you even get the first TNT charge in? Breaking that block would also activate the mining detector; no?
The idea of the escape is that you are forced to activate the detector, but the observers are blown up faster than they can propogate the signal downwards, meaning it will never make it to the bans.
The TNT cannon is set to activate at a particular timing after the stone block above the crying obby is broken. So, it effectively has like 12 ticks (the amount of time from the first observer to the last) in this time to explode, breaking the observers as they are still powering, and it's timed to do this as soon as possible.
@@electra_ "The TNT cannon is set to activate at a particular timing after the stone block above the crying obby is broken." That makes sense now.
Also, does activating zone allow you to escape? I mean; zone *does* stop time.

•Have ping so bad that you clip through things.
•Backflip.

The serious one is the Backflip. (Joke)

How can u get the items in? There is a item control at the proces of entering the prison right?
This prison allows the prisoners to mess around with items, since the walls are so thick they theoretically would never help. There is a specific list of banned items that prevents the prisoner from constructing a bed, portal, or bookban. To deliver items to the prisoners, you can pay the guards at the entrance and they'll bring them after scanning for banned items. The guards are also supposed to give prisoners items occasionally just to spice things up. All of the items I used are legal to bring in as of the latest version of the prison.
also you can read description
This is soo gooda
Thanks!
Insane, what is this the first escape for Daedalus Labyrinth or something?
Also I didn't know this was built by Kenadian
i believe it was the first escape but i'm not sure. there were probably some things posted before this that were sketchy / didnt actually work from my memory but idk exactly?
there are other easier escapes that exist, elytra and use banned inputs to fly out (you'll only get kicked after a frame so you'll be flying forward slightly each time) but you might consider that more of a universal escape that can't be fixed for open-roof prisons. this escape showcases an actual fixable flaw in the prison, which is imo the most interesting type of escape.
@@electra_Why couldn't you just go up 9k blocks while outside the areabans and throw ender pearls to pearl onto the chunk that the prisoner is loading.
And then have the prisoner do the same while they have items
Would require like a stack or three of rockets total.
@@blueeleephant6o4t
you can't do that because the wall of the prison is too thick to all be loaded even from both sides
so if you throw an ender pearl, it will get stuck in unloaded chunks
the only way to load the chunks would be to go into the banned area, which theoretically would stop you
of course in practice, the "banned inputs" i mentioned means you will have a very short amount of time in banned chunks and so you can still be fine
depending on how close the bans are, the strength of this effect will vary... if you are directly in the chunk of a ban, you'll be banned after a single frame, if you're far away from a ban, you'll have until the chunk loads
elytra helps because you'll keep flying, so even if you don't get time to input something, the game should keep flying for you
i think there's a decently large open space between bans, so you could probably use something like pearls if you make sure you're as far away from the bans as possible... it would be annoying but would theoretically work
using stuff that makes chunks load slower also helps, which of course in the extreme case leads to the light suppression universal which stops all chunk loading
@@electra_What would be the reason you couldn't just use withers than tnt minecart all the areabans and dig yourself closer to the prison, and then once the prison is in render distance, pearl up to the prisoner, than let them pearl out?
I don't think the outer areabans are very protected, I might be wrong though.
*Also, I don't think these people have heard of riptide flying.*
@@blueeleephant6o4t it would just be incredibly slow since you'd need to repeat your same wither cannon thing 100s of times and there are regen walls that make it even slower
given the overlapping of bans, you might even need to wither to the order of O(n^2) in sort of a wedge shape
How did you get that Shulker in there tho
Players outside may give items to the guards to deliver to prisoners, so long as the items are not on a set blacklist, which none of these items are.
Additionally, guards are encouraged to deliver some of their own resources to the prisoners, just to make things more interesting. If a war was going on in the cell, guards might deliver some TNT and supplies to spice it up, which I could collect until i had enough to build the cannon.

Wait a minute, couldn't a wandering trader spawn that sells podzol and a sapling and then a zombie villager and witch spawn in the cell? You could cure the zombie villager with weakness and a golden apple to sell wheat or something to a villager for emeralds, then buy podzol (if there is no dirt in the cell) from the wandering trader, and then buy a sapling from the wandering trader too, then make a bed and blow up the bed and you to escape.
I don't think Daedalus Labyrinth has protection against this.
emeralds are banned, so you can't buy anything from a wandering trader
and they made absolutely sure to not put the prison in a biome where foxes can spawn, so no naturally spawning emeralds
this was my very first idea when hearing of the prison lol
@@electra_What about witches and zombie villagers? Couldn't you just cure villagers and then obtain emeralds from the villager, and since prisoners don't interact with any guards, you could buy something from a wandering trader then.
