- Using recycled materials, Larry Richardson built a replica Golden Gate Bridge in his backyard. On his way to Vietnam in 1968, Larry Richardson caught a glimpse of the Golden Gate Bridge. Before shipping off, he picked up a postcard at the Army commissary. Using the postcard as a reference, Richardson took posts salvaged from a bridge, and cables from a plane and an oil rig and built a 150-foot replica in his backyard. It took seven years, $4000, and 97.5 tons of concrete to complete. As he describes it "The Coolest Thing I've Ever Made"

What really amazed me was that he made a 105 foot miniature Golden Gate Bridge for about 4000 dollars

@@johnperic6860 Look up the "Bridge for Kids" project in Orting, Washington. Over the last two decades(!) they've pissed away around a million dollars on all manner of BS, and have accomplished only the drawing up of blueprints for a ridiculous, unaffordable monstrosity.

Excellent! My dream too. Friends wanted me to build a bridge over a creek on their property. I wanted to build a suspension bridge for fun but they only wanted a simple beam. I refer to it as the 'neolithic bridge'.
You sir are absoulty amazing, you live a very modest life - and clearly have worked hard for everything you have. Your handy nature, and life time of skills, has put you in a place to build your house, but also the amazing structure out back. Long after you are going, im sure it will still be standing - and you will be in your local history books for decades to follow.

Hi Lamy, I also want to build same type of bridge when I retire.
He needed a way to get to his land on the other side of the creek so he built a scale replica of The Golden Gate Bridge using a picture postcard as his blueprint. AMAZING !!

Looks really cool, but nothing like the Golden Gate Bridge. The towers are different. The Golden Gate Bridge's towers don't have a diagonal pattern on them. This is more similar to the Bay Bridge near the Golden Gate, but it's still pretty inaccurate.

The audio is off on all of your videos (compared to other youtube videos) The voice audio is very low, the music fades VERY loud. The video editing is very good, but the audio needs work

I think it was really a question of budget. He got the paint for very little, and did what he could. I think he was planning on repainting it the more accurate colour at some point. - Cheers Guy
