| How To Use My Art Bases | Tutorial!

- I am very nervous to post this, but I've had a few people asking me questions about my bases (specifically my puzzle bases) that required a visual example. So I decided to make my very first tutorial!! I haven't done a voice over video in YEARS, and let me tell you that they were AWFUL. embarrassing. 0/10. I used a laptop mic, I was like... 15, and it was just... poorly executed. So I really hope that this one's better than those!
I will say it's not the best tutorial in the world, because I'm sick, this wasn't scripted, AND I stutter over my words/sentences a lot. But!! I think it turned out alright! In this video I go over how I personally intend my bases to be used/How I use my bases.
❔What is an art base?
It's basically lineart that's been made by an artist for others to use that is either free or sold to customers. My bases are more on the complex side, because I prefer to make them "puzzle bases". This means I draw a WHOLE bunch of options in separate layers you can pick and choose from, which allows room for more creativity! But it makes it a bit more confusing to use. So that's what this tutorial is intended to help with!
This tutorial is mostly made for those who use procreate! I can't answer for other programs because atm, I only use procreate.

Oh yes. Happened to me very recently xd
I was being forgetful and combined stuff and deleted layers I didn't need. Turns out I was still on the file I wasn't supposed to delete stuff on instead of the one I'd use for coloring.
I found your account 3 years ago through a speedpaint and I fell in love with your art style! Ive followed you ever since on insta. Also your voice is super pretty!
I definitely recommend this base set, I’ve been having an absolute blast with it and it can be a great help with designing characters if you struggle with that! Or you can just make some adorable icons for your preexisting characters too!

I've really loved your work for a long time, and to see that your process is pretty much exactly like mine, with the constant "UHM" and indecisiveness, and just.. all of it. i just wanna add- when you’re using the ref at 16:30, the thing about that is the way you are doing it WITHOUT the ref bubble is actually better. now hear me out:
it took me awhile to figure out how, but you CAN color pick from the ref bubble. HOWEVER, when I’ve done it, I’ve noticed that the colors become slightly muted as i color pick from the ref bubble rather than an added image layer. so, theoretically, it would slowly mute the colors the more you use them if you use the image you draw off of it as a ref also. :p
edit: it might be caused by some weird personal technical difficulty, i’m honestly not sure. could be Procreate just saving storage and it’s actually the same colors. idk. either way i don’t trust it to give me the proper colors bc of that 😵💫

Henlo! I was wondering what canvas size you used for the file where you color you icons.
Hi! I use about 2300 x 2500!! I like using bigger canvases because I HATE messing with pixels

I can’t say for anyone else but for me I find I don’t like how it takes up room on my screen?? With the opacity + size slider its really subtle (as is the top thingy obviously) and the layers + tools (etc) tabs just disappear when ur not using them so the fact that the reference tab takes up so much room is disorienting for me lol

What device do you use with procreate? Just a simple question I need to know as someone who can't draw and is trash at it I want to get better at drawing animals or mythic creatures of some sort yk?
