Having a good old fashioned dark night with a storm is classic rather than a cliche in my humble opinion.
But that chachter has everything A Twilight Fantasy, immortality and weslth...She did not smog him right!! 😂
15:33 is what my main issue with the film was. If the Dracula wanna be would have kept his seduction game going a little longer, I think he could have Twilighted Evie into falling in love with him and maybe turning willingly. But killing a lady in front of her and then forcing the marriage, how could anyone have thought that would work out?
How did you miss one of the main points of the movie? The women are nothing more than property to him. He doesn't care about getting her to turn willingly. He only cares about taking possession of her.
@@amityislandchum Yeah, but it's less about getting her to love him or consent to vampirism and more about how it is so much easier to manipulate a willing target. Think about how cults irl operate, they don't show their hand until their target is actively drinking the kool-aid. Also, he doesn't have any safeguards against being killed by those he turned. It's just reckless and stupid, not cunning and manipulative.
@@amityislandchum You've missed my point. Him just turning Heel and terrifying her at the end makes most of the front end of the movie redundant. Why the flirts and romantic walks alone then, if he was gonna just force her any way.

True blood had some excellent points about vampirism and modern science.
That there's reasons not to kill the victim most times.
Especially for vampires who have the power of hypnosis.
Take a couple of pints from a rotation of victims.

Fun fact not all reflective surfaces are a giveaway for vampires. Old mirrors are because they were made of silver but now mirrors are made of cheaper material so technically vampires today could look into a mirror and see themselves
This was oddly specific
I don't think the conventions of vampire stories are really affected by any sort of real-world chemistry or physics. And many, maybe most, vampire stories nowadays have entirely abandoned any particular weakness of vampires to silver. That's been mapped instead onto werewolves in much of pop culture. The "mirror" thing and the "silver" thing have been decoupled. So even if pop culture does present a vampire as both harmed by silver and lacking a reflection, they aren't usually connected.
@@MegaZeta It's more of that silver is supposed to protect from/ward off evil, any evil, in Slavic lore, therefore it 'reveals' the vampire. Also vampires and werewolves were originally much the same. The other explanation for no reflection is usually vampires being dead, and therefore having no soul.

Calling him De Ville was a miss too. Dracula was pretty proud of his heritage in the original book, so naming himself Tepes, Basarab, or Szilagyi all would have made more sense and tipped fewer viewers off as to his true nature, and the ones who did recognize it are the ones who would be chomping at the bit for the dramatic irony. I read a book(different genre and he was actually a protagonist in that one) who disguised him by him using the name of his older brother Mircea and using Basarab as a surname. Unless you know that specific part of history, you don't realize exactly who you're dealing with until he reveals it(although he does stake some people earlier in the book, so that could tip people off). That's a much better way to handle it than picking out a random first name and the last name of DEVIL.

As someone who had the evidently rare experience of watching this movie with zero prior knowledge or clue about what it was about (watched it on the plane to kill two hours and only found it through random scrolling) I can confirm the “Vampire twist” was indeed spoiled by the stake obviously placed in the title, causing the movie to be even more of a disappointment, because I was left wondering “Where are the vampires in this unexpected vampire movie? Because I don’t count ‘dark, can hardly see what’s happening’ jump scares as vampire specific scenes.” Almost an hour and a half later, I’m still watching for the sole purpose of proving to myself that I never saw the stake in the title, because there’s no way they’d try and pull a vampire twist with like twenty minutes remaining.... and they did, yes, they did.

I went into the movie basically blind to the vampire stuff. I did not pay attention to the title of the movie's design. I went into the movie hoping the family was apart of a cult that sacrificed people and ate them. A vampire twist wasn't so far of a stretch to figure out though. I still liked the movie though.

I mean... there's the stake, the "Invitation" title, it takes place in Whitby, the butler's name is Renfield and his "master" is named De Ville. It's pretty telegraphed.
(Whitby is where Dracula arrives in England in Bram Stoker's novel, Renfield is his servant and "Count de Ville" is the alias he uses while in England)

@7:38 logically, if someone gets the shit scared out of them, their heart rate will be through the roof. High heart rate means, as a vampire, you can drain them a lot quicker. Also adrenaline is an anticoagulant, so you're guaranteed to get more blood out of them when they hemorrhage.
Should we find it disturbing that you've put so much thought into the intricacies of draining a person of thier blood? 😂

What they seem to forget is that Dracula is Vlad the Impaler. A hardened warrior and bloodthirsty Warlord. So even without his vampire powers He'd run your pockets. The older void the stronger the vampire. There's no way a baby vampire is going toe to toe with any vampire that's older than her.

The first half of the movie felt like it was pulled directly from an adult romance novel. It was well done in that aspect! But it was SO JARRING to go from the romance to the horror the way it did.

I always go into movies with an open mind and open heart, but CinemaSins has taught me to notice small, careless things that can break the suspension of disbelief. They've also taught me to wary of PG-13 horror movies released outside of the Autumn/Fall season.
This movie is a mashup of Get Out, Knives Out, and Ready or Not.
This movie would qualify to be called a mash-down. ;)

Yes you would not say “Just I” you would say “just me”

It truly is! It's a shame there are so many poor adaptations out there of it(and a shame so few versions reference Quincey Morris. The man saw a bat outside their window while they were planning and casually walked outside to shoot at it with a shotgun without saying a word, and he was one of the two people who actually killed Dracula)
I would be pissed if everyone I was working with suddenly increased my work load from just missing.

I had never heard of the film when I found it. I watched it and thought it was teasing demons or something. So when the dinner happened and the three brides speech I was a little confused. But then the vampires happened and I lost it. Because I had to rewatch it immediately with vampires in mind to understand. I still feel silly that I never got vampires immediately bc it was so obvious

Liking something before even knowing what it involves, You may say you know its going to be good (and usually cinema sins does hit that sarcastic sweetspot everyone loves) but you cant know anything until youve actually watched it with your own two eyes or unless you have some sort of freaky super power that allows you to correctly guess the outcome of a creators content before hand, in which case you have earned another sin for being a mutant who has a unfair advantage over us "normies"

There wasn't a plan A until they found out about Evie other than maybe try reminding Dracula gay marriage is legal and Oliver is the right age(also, as a side note, in the book there was textual evidence Dracula was interested in men too, specifically Jonathan Harker, and in many derivative works since Dracula and characters based on him have been bi)

when i watched this the first time, i wondered why evie wasn’t on board with the arrangement. sure it was a forced marriage but it sounded like a great deal overall

Since "irony" is using a word in a manner differently than expected, I suppose it would only be ironic to kill a vampire with the animal bat, since killing anyone with bats would be assumed to be the wooden stick variety.
hm i thought irony is when an expression conveys a meaning that is opposite to their usual meaning. Vampires are usually seen as bats or friendly with bats or having power over bats but in this case they are dying to a bat.

Delivery on "look at all these lamps" KILLED me right off the start. It has major meme vibes. Similar to "look at all these chickens" but somehow a very different, exasperated energy.

Renfield was actually the servant of Count Dracula (I knew this from a lot of reading and not just watching the Renfield movie.) Being that this movie's plot revolves around vampires is such a huge step in the right direction that I watched this film 3 times. You're welcome, Sony. But don't ever mess with my Spider-Man ever again, or it's a strongly worded email.

I thought dude was going for an Elijah impersonation because that's all I was seeing. Movie just made me want to watch TVD or Originals.
Yeah, I keep looking at the main male character and all I see is Harry Hook from the Descendants series. Though it is nice to see him in more projects.

Despite all the sins, the movie is actually a decent vampire movie compared to a lot of the other garbage vampire movies that have come out over the past 10-15 years. At least this one put more focus on the horror aspect instead of sexualized romance. As usual, one of the biggest problems with this movie was that its trailer spoiled far too much.
The horror was low and the sexual romance was upped. Yeah I saw the movie too.
And what were the other garbage vampire movies in the last 10-15 years? Because I guarantee you What We Do In The Shadows was, Let The Right One In(tv series too), and 30 Days Night was great. Near Dark was brilliant!
Whle i can appreciate the MK reference for the last outtake... they missed a PERFECT "THIS IS SPARTA!!!" moment with it.

"Blue Juice" was actually quite a funny movie. Stupid but still a guilty pleasure ;-) So for poor Sean Pertwee (happy birthday, btw!) this one IS the lowest point.
And I was waiting to see the movie before I'd watch the EWW video. Superb!
