Fifty-plus female here. Chose to move into a high-top van in 2015 and have never looked back. Worked full time until a year ago (pt now), having amped up my savings more by kissing rent/utils goodbye over 9 yrs. ago.. Good luck to you out there.

I’m right behind you. I’ve been looking at this for years. My sister in law recently died unexpectedly. She was the same age as me. I’m gong to quit work in one year and take off. I’m still in my 50’s but can work freelance and have enough not to worry I’ll be poor. Life is very short.

Van life everything is just different. How you date, what you do, and so on. We as society are just so used to everything being the same way in a stick and brick type of society that we forgot how to be alone and how to make community wherever you are even if wherever you are is multiple places. 🙂 New subscriber here number 149 oop oop. The vanlofe community just works different so adapt and even create ways to get what you need even community. I am the type who thrives in a relationship where we are not constantly seeing each other. I don't need to be spending a good chunk of my time or even living with someone all the time to feel close or be considered together. Its quality of that time that matters not quantity. It's all about being intentional when your together to make the most of it not the number of days,months, or even years. Always been that type. So I know I will do well with van life and even ponteionally even have relationship(s) with others on the road. Currently working on getting out on the road myself.
You are going to do well! Got to have money in case of something breaking down. That is all!

Also you need a community if you can?? That might not be important to you?! What ever the case you are going to be better off. I wish I would have known about van living! I had a real hard time! I lived in Iowa and I gets very cold! The sad part about it is is I had a Luma van . I could have easily lived in it!
