    Darn the luck! I love my manual transmissions, but I bought a 4x4 K5... The package is a built LS1 as well a th400 that I'm going to have to install.
    High science, but Holley of all companies has the video that explains it the best. I remember when Holley was just about carburetors, but they may have saved me from a mistake!

    This dude doesn't even explain how to choose a torque converter. He just explains how it works very briefly and scares you off from choosing the wrong one, then points to their tech support to choose the right one.

      @the Traildaddy well I think those are not the only 2 options. Either refer to tech support (best option) or sell you the wrong one. It would be nice if they took a deeper dive into it and shared some of the process they use to calculate the best converter for a given application. Maybe even present 2 scenarios and walk us through how they determine which converter for each.

      @KingJT80 Před rokem

      @@1windozesuk ive heard two different ways
      either
      A. pick a converter that "flashes" 500-700 RPM below your peak torque
      or B
      look at the cams staring RPM range and go 500 RPM minimum over that
      this is why he didnt say how to because thats like asking a custom cam grinder how they do what they do.
      lots of science behind that and that aint free info. its how they make their money

    Watching in earnest. My big questions: Best rear gear and TQ stall/model with just a tune and CAI. Peak torque stock is 4250rpm. I've read two trains of thought: 1. Get a TC that stalls at or close to the peak. 2. Get a TC that stalls at 500-700 rpm below the peak. No racing(?), just street-highway. 2004 Mercury Marauder.

    For me he's first to explain how the torque converter works. In my case gm put 4.3 V8 lt1 known as baby lt in my 1995 Caprice. I want upgrade but want do it just 1 time. Things gutless on take off. Some are reporting putting 3200, 3600 so on some noticing no gain others saying daily driveability is problem

    im still no more informed on how to choose a torque converter than my grandma.
    I'll just paint mine red with some cool black stripes to make it go faster. maybe some flames for a performance boost when my turbo spools up.

  • @danmyers9372
    @danmyers9372 Před 2 lety +1

    Your description of stall speed is not technically correct. When converter manufacturers rate a converters stall speed they are talking about the maximum rpm the impeller can spin before the turbine starts turning. The maximum RPM that an engine can turn before the wheels start turning is almost always lower than the stall speed of the converter and varies greatly based on the engine torque, the gearing in the trans and rear end (torque multipliers), the weight of the car and even the height of the rear yires

    I know that Hughes TC's state that their converters are tested on fresh big block chevys so if you install it on a small-block v8 to expect a DROP of 3-500 RPM. SO don't buy a 2000 rpm stall & shove it on a small block it will end up being almost like stock.

      put it on a truck scale to get real weight, then gear ratio and what cam you got in that 440. Those 235 tires won't save you from the 440's torque. You can shove old school 295/50/15's under the read fenders with some rear lift.
