Every social animal understands rudeness because "rudeness" just means any social behavior that is inconsiderate or unfair (based on the "rules" those animals generally follow when they interact within a group.) If dogs don't understand rudeness then why do you need to socialize puppies with other unrelated dogs? It's because dogs, like humans and every other social animal, have basic emotionally-driven expectations for their interactions with other members of their species. The way you feel when someone cuts in line is exactly how dogs feel when you get two dogs side-by-side but only give one of the dogs treats. There are videos of people doing this and every single time the dog that isn't getting treats will get upset/agitated, it's actually been studied.
Dogs even understand intention and researchers have shown that even when they taunted a dog with treats through a glass partition but then intentionally withdrew the treats from the opening in the partition and placed them by their side not a single dog attempted to go around the partition to get the treats. If that isn't "politeness" then I don't know what other word would describe that behavior.

@@_johnwayne_ trading is when your pup has something they shouldn't have, and won't let you take it off them, you trade them for something else like a toy or treat. You can combine this by saying "drop it" when they drop the thing they can't have and praise when they successfully trade with you. It teaches them you're not out to steal from them and to trust you. If you're always taking things off them with nothing in return it teaches them youre out to get their food source and increases the aggression. So taking a bone off them when they growl is not the answer, it's better to leave them be or distract them with something more interesting if you want the bone back.

For example if a dog pees in the house and the owner shoves their head in it. The dog doesn’t think “peeing in the house made the owner mad” they just recognize peeing in front of the owner as unsafe. Which makes it harder to positively reinforce going outside cause the dog will be pee shy around the owner and doesn’t correct the behavior cause the dog will still pee in the house when the owner isn’t around.

As usual, my dog didn't react, so I had to block it. Then it came back around and bit mine on the leg (still no reaction) so i got my hand in the way - earned a broken thumb and a puncture on each side of the knuckle - and that's when my dog reacts. He got a grip of the other dogs nape and pinned it to the floor. No other bites, no shake and rip, no scratching with paws, just got a grip, pinned it in place and held it until the owner ran over.
And then the owner was an idiot and tried to tug his dog away before I told mine to let go, causing his dog to yelp in pain. Felt sorry for it even though I was pissed off, cause it wasn't the dogs fault its owner was a complete fucking idiot - seriously, what kind of moron gives control of an aggressive dog to a child thats barely bigger than it while walking down a main road at 5pm on a saturday afternoon.

I'm by no means a dog expert, but you seem to provide the best advice and have the best relationship with your dogs than any other trainer I've seen on CZcams. I think the attitude of dominance over your dog is a dangerous and unhealthy approach, so your approach of building trust and mutual respect is refreshing to see. Plus, you have such a wonderful little guy to share in your videos!

He is a 9-year-old black lab and I am autistic and with no training he managed to stop a full-blown meltdown. It's likely the bond that you're beautiful dogs and my dog has with me that allows this exchange of behaviors. I love your videos ❤️

Maybe that would depend on the dog's behavior with technology. With things like a megaphone, a phone, a video recording, dogs can have various reactions such as indifference, interest without recognizing who it is, interest with recognition, or recognition, but thinking it's a recording so it doesn't matter (so indifference again).

Years passed and he was never ill so never needed to give him pills. Untill he turned 12 Now he needs meds on multiple occasions every day.

It's crazy but I do all this with my Chihuahua. It's not only large dogs that can be trained this well. I started from when she was just 6 months old. People are so fascinated by how she does not "yap" at people. When I take her off leash she stays glued by my side only to leave if I allow it. She knows so many commands and I've had such a blast training her. She loves learning new things. I really learned her special ability when I took her to a nursing home to visit my aunt. She went up to each elder and gently greeted them...EACH ONE. Now it's her most favorite thing to do and the home says she brightens everyone's day.

  • @jademoon7938

I spent a lot of time training my Malamute mix. When he was a couple years old, he was lying on the floor with his bone, and my friend's three year old daughter came up behind him, grabbed his tail, went hand over hand like it was a rope to his back, flopped forward, grabbing both ears as she did, and she laid on his back like that.
Her mom noticed I was watching them and this look of panic crossed her face, but he just looked up at her for a second, and continued to chew his bone. She slid off and he licked her face.
That was just such a great confirmation that the training time was worth it. He was just so big (about 115 and went up to 125 between 11ish-16) that "gentle" was something we put a lot of time into.
And he was just really sweet anyway, I can't take credit for that, he was extremely smart and a once in a lifetime dog. I got him so young and we were never apart for 16 years and for a giant breed (>100 lb) that's practically unheard of.

No aggression EVER displayed to the family, BUT if a stranger showed up on the property, ESPECIALLY a man, watch out! We sadly had to put her down this summer after being with us for 11 years... she was 16 years old. We still miss our best-dog-ever.

My parents always showed the dog they were dominant right away, and then after that rarely showed discipline, and all our dogs absolutely loved us.
