19:51 true headings are used close to the poles because the magnetic variation can be so large, and can change so much, that navigating using magnetic headings would be unreliable. Additionally, conventional compasses become useless close to the poles, as the vertical component of the Earth’s magnetic field is enough to physically pull the magnetic in the compass downwards instead of pulling it towards magnetic north.
The heading with a G after it is with reference to grid north. When travelling over or very close to the poles, even true north becomes useless, because when you’re directly over the South Pole, every direction you can possibly face is north, and vice versa for the North Pole. Therefore, north is redefined as being the northerly direction along the prime meridian. So if you were travelling directly towards Greenwich from the South Pole, that would be a direction of 360G. If you were travelling from the South Pole along the 090W meridian, or towards the South Pole along the 090E meridian, that would be a direction of 270G.

The plane goes to true heading because of the magnetic variation down the pole, the variation lines are very close to each other that is better to flight on true that on magnetic headings...
