Toyota Prado150 Squeal Noise From Underneath Vehicle.

- Prado 150 Loud Squeal/Squeak Noise from underneath while driving at any speed. The noise on this Prado was occurring at low speeds in this instance, however does also occur at freeway speeds. The noise appears constant in pitch and amplitude and does not appear to change with driver input such as braking and turning. Vehicle needs to be driven for at least 30 minutes before noise can be heard. We have never been able to reproduce the noise while driving the vehicle on the hoist. We have successfully repaired 6 Prados by replacing the front output shaft companion flange and transfer case front oil seal. Noise appears to be generated by contact between the flange dust seal and transfer case oil seal metal ring. This repair was performed after confirming that there was no contact between the brake pad wear indicators and rotors and no foreign objects stuck between rotors and backing plate.
Thanks for sharing this information, after 18 months of trying to locate this noise, this is exactly what the problem was and is now repaired thanks to your video, great work guys 👍
Fantastic. This is why we do these videos. We appreciate your feedback. Thank you.
You guys are awesome! My prado makes a samiliar noise after 30-40min during wet weather. I have been to Scarborough Toyota three times last year and still could not locate the problem....
Thank you for posting this, I’ve got this exact problem with my ‘21 and the dealer hasn’t been able to work it out. I’m taking this to the next service! Cheers!
Darek - Thankyou so much for your informative video and recommendation! It has taken 6 months of me advocating that my car has this issue after you shared this video with me from the Prado Facebook page, and this week Toyota have agreed to replace the transfer case seal, although will not be replacing the output shaft companion flange. My Prado was the first this dealer had received with the complaint 6 months ago, and since they said they've had 4 more.
Thank you very much for your feedback. Please post back with the repair results.
I’d be interested to hear whether replacement of only the transfer seal is effective.
so did this fix the issue? did they replace the flange also or just the seal
@dylannoter4818 We replaced the flange and transfer case seal and it fixed the noise
Well done guys!
Not an easy one to find!
I had a similar noise on my car many months ago but now it's not there anymore, probably worn out!
Nice video
Thanks
Hi Max
Thanks for that. Haven't heard of the cruiser exhibiting this concern.
@@nunawadingtoyota8134 I don't know if the problem was the same, but the noise was very very similar.
Cheers
Thanks for sharing this information! I have been looking at what the cause is of the squeal. It is exactly as you describe. Two mechanics so far could not locate the problem. Will get this work done ASAP because the noise is so irritating.
Thanks for visiting our channel and leaving a positive feedback.
You guys are great. I struggle so much with the local dealer. Wish you guys were close by.
Thank you so much. We really value your positive feedback. Thank you for supporting our channel🙂🙂
My car is displaying exactly the same problem. the noise is so irritating and the customers description is identical.
Thank you for the video! Very helpful!
Awesome thank you
Thanks guys. My peado has very similar noise coming up but it's intermittently(not anymore last 2month). Anyway, will check if noise coming up again.....this video is very helpful!!! Cheers
What a typo 🤪🤣
It might be the little children locked up in the back under the blanket??
I would really get that taken care of
полезная информация.
спасибо!
Thanks for recording this. Any advice on how to prove this to a dealer so repair can be done under warranty, at a Toyota Dealer? Identical to my issue
Hi
Thanks for watching. Perhaps get a video recording of your vehicle doing it as it can be very difficult for dealer to reproduce the noise.
I’ve done that and suggested, however they need to record it themselves apparently. I’ll drive around for thirty minutes, then pick up a mechanic to listen for it.
Just wondering if the problem is really fix my only start do the squeak noise last week (36,000) kms
Good to know where the problem is!!!
2021 toyota prado 150series @ 36,000kms
Is this video your DPR submission?
What grease did you use additionally to the factory?
My 150 had just started doing this what would it cost roughly to fix
Hello I have Toyota Prado 150 2013 4.0v6 I have back lash when I put it in D or R or while driving in between 60km to 80km when ever I accelerate or deccelerate it shows back lash plz make a video what to do I think it is a problem with transfer box
Hi I got same noise now on my Prado 150 (2020 ) I will bring to Toyota Campbelltown on Monday I quick question how much cost to fix or under warranty?
The vehicles we have rectified were still within the warranty period. We have performed these repairs at no cost to our guests.
@@nunawadingtoyota8134 If the repair can be carried out under warranty (that is, if that applies to the particular affected vehicle), why is there a narrative at the end of the video regarding individual's possessing adequate technical skills to carry out the work? Obviously, not all affected vehicles will in fact still be under their new car warranty but I would suggest possibly also annotating or mentioning a few words in the video that if your vehicle is indeed under its new car warranty, to have the repairs done by a Toyota dealership rather than attempting to DIY. To me, this would be on the very front of people who are affected by the issue.
One other thing, if Nunawading Toyota are aware of the issue and undertaking the appropriate repairs under warranty where applicable, why aren't all the other national Toyota dealerships similarly aware of the issue and adopting the same approach i.e. recognising and fixing the issue when customers first present the issue to them? I understand that dealerships are all individual franchises but surely Toyota would have a 'Service Bulletin' type system whereby known widespread issues are nationally communicated to all Toyota dealerships?
Am I missing something here? 🤔
@rich9903 Thanks very much for your comment. I do not think we need to specify that vehicles covered under warranty should be presented to the dealer for assessment and rectification.
Unfortunately there is no Toyota dealer bulletin on this noise and as such only dealers that have experienced the noise may be aware of how to fix it. We are sharing this information to assist owners who have difficulty in getting it diagnosed as it can be very difficult to isolate the noise.
@@nunawadingtoyota8134 Hi Darek. Your video and explanation is exactly what a family member (of mine) was looking for since his 2021 Prado (45K kms) recently developed this exact issue which frankly left him bamboozled as to how and why it had started. I have forwarded the link to your video to him and he now plans to present to his local Toyota dealership for further action. Previously, he had only been met with blank stares by the dealership staff when he initially brought it to their attention ... so thank you SO much.
Having read all the comments before writing and including my own comments here, I do believe that there is a level of uncertainty amongst Prado owners who are experiencing this issue despite their vehicles clearly still being within their 5yr warranty and hence, repairable by a Toyota dealership under warranty at no cost - but never mind.
I am more concerned about the total absence of effective communication of this known issue by Toyota amongst the national dealership network. Again, you can see from the comments on this post that apart from Nunawading Toyota, other dealerships around the country are completely unaware of the issue and customers trying to get the issue properly fixed (under warranty) has been impossible. You can understand that there would be tens of thousands of affected customers who will unfortunately not see your video and so will continue to be frustrated by the problem. I might actually personally raise the issue (the problem itself and the apparent lack of acknowledgement and communication) with Toyota Australia in the New Year and see how that goes.
My personal situation is that I currently own a 2022 Prado with currently only 10K kms; however, given that it seems that the issue develops around the 40-50K kms mark for most, if that's also me in the future, I want to be 100% confident that I can immediately take my vehicle to a dealership for repair without any fuss ... or blank stares from Toyota staff 🤘
Does toyota corolla ZRE182 CVT 2014 has similar flange assembly ? My corolla has similar noise after you drive it for 10 or 15 mins, you can hear the noise when the gear is on drive mode (noise going away as soon as you change it to neutral or park), have tried to change the serpentine belt but noise still there help please...thanks
Hi
Thanks for reaching out. Your vehicle is equipped with a completely different driveline set up. Please consult a dealer for diagnosis of your particular concern.
can i enquire, this kit avaiable for 2021 built 05/21. squealing like hell. Seams to be more than 1 seal here too. The companion flange comes with its own seals, can these be removed/replaced.. There's obviously nothing wrong with he flange itself??
Flange comes with a seal that cannot be replaced on it’s own and there is an oil seal on the transfer case. There is no fault with the seals
if there was no fault with the seals they woudnt need replacing
@dylannoter4818 visually there appeared nothing wrong with the seals, this was a low mileage car and so were others we looked at. Once we remove the flange we replace the transfer case seal of course to prevent possible oil leaks. We replaced the flange as well to send back to manufacture to investigate the cause of the noise. The true cause of the noise is not understood. Seal design perhaps is a contributing factor. Not all vehicles exhibit this noise. My 2019 Prado does not exhibit this noise after travelling 90000km. We have heard of instances where the flange is removed, seals are cleaned and lubricated and the noise disappears.
Gday, is it nessesary to replace the big companion flange sub assembly (new black studs it appears) like you have done in the video, or is a good clean up and new dust, new oil seal, and companion nut? My local Toyota in pakenham says the subassembly is a month wait from japan. Have the seals and nut coming on Wednesday. It definitely is this noise, so thank you guys already!
We have performed the repairs using a new flange and would recommend you do the same. If the noise is really annoying you can try in the interim spraying some grease between the flange and transfer seal.
@@nunawadingtoyota8134 will get a new flange then. Thanks. Do you likely have one in stock or should I call tomorrow?
Please give our parts department a call. Thank you.
@@nunawadingtoyota8134 What specific grease type do you use to extra coat the rubbers and flange? Thanks again
Factory grease on the new flange seal should be enough. For the transfer case oil seal and the little oil seal on the inside of the flange coat the lip of the seal with Multi Purpose grease, that’s what the repair manual specifies.
Thanks! Finally found some information about what the squealing sound was when we drive our Prado 150 after 30/40 minutes it starts and at low speeds. Is it dangerous to drive with this sound ??
Not dangerous at all, just annoying
thanks for your video, what if it is left unfixed? Apart from the obvious noise?
Thanks for getting in touch. Should have no problems on newer vehicles, as far as we can tell. Older vehicles may be causing this due to a deteriorated seal, in which case it may not provide adequate sealing against dust and dirt and it may be a good idea to replace.
Thank you, mine is a 2015 model, I guess better get it checked
What are the seal part numbers?
What is the seal part number?
Brother how can I get the wiring diagram for prado 2015?
Hi
Visit toyotamanuals.com.au
I just drop my wife’s 2020 prado this morning for the same squealing noise for the 4th time.can i ask for the transfer case oil seal part number please?
Hi
I’ll need the vehicle details. If you can provide me with a Vehicle Identification number I may be able to help
Hi,
Have you had this issue occur on the n80 SR5 Hiluxs?
Hi
Thanks for getting in touch. This is not something we have encountered on a n80 Hilux and don’t expect to either. The front propeller shaft does not turn when driving normally in 2 wheel drive. Prado is a full time four wheel drive and front propeller shaft turns constantly when driving.
@@nunawadingtoyota8134
OK thanks.
I have a squealing noise coming from the front end (around the wheel area) which occurs from when the ute moves & will go away at approx 15-20kmph. Any ideas what it could be?
@@rogerlim3114 what is the production date of the vehicle ?
@@nunawadingtoyota8134 01/2020
Nothing comes up on our system as being related to your description. If it occurs frequently then it should not be difficult to diagnose.
Is this the same on the Fortuner 1KD engine as well? What is the oil seal part number? My VIN is MR0YZ59G901117562
Thanks? Appreciate the feedback.
how much for this fix for 2014 prado
Total cost of parts for a 2014 Prado is $554. This includes Flange, Oil Seal, Nut and 2 containers of genuine 75W transfer oil. 1.5 hours in labour time should suffice to perform this repair.
What is the oil seal part number?
Hi
Thanks for the enquiry. Could you provide the vehicle VIN No.
