- Hi All!
I hope every got through January well and looking forward to Spring!
Here is a video about a very nice find a made in one of my local thrift stores. This Yamaha amplifier is probably from around 1991, but the sound is terrific and will be added to my home HIFI setup.
Thanks to all me new subscribers, your support is appreciated. I look forward to answering your comments.
Enjoy the video!
Nice post! I still have mine some 40(?) years later. It does indeed weigh a ton and still runs hot, but I love the old timer!
A little tip... it's not a "subwoofer", it's a "woofer". The "sub" in "subwoofer" is because it's, lower frequency then a "woofer", and as such they are used for standalone (or active) powered low frequency speakers. You will even see your amp (I have one too) has a low pass output for
Thanks for the explanation. It definitely looks like an amp with all the bells and whistles for its time. Thanks for watching!
Still got mine that I bought when I was young and alive. Lol.
Well I am glad you got to enjoy it when you were young and alive! Thanks for watching.
The old Yamaha amps are great. I used an AX-900U of around 1985 vintage for around 20 years. It finally had too many issues, so I picked up an AX-930U 'Natural Sound' which are hard to find--vintage 1990-92. Years ago a Yamaha service department rep told me that the amps from that era have better quality internals than their new stuff. Lots of power-for the 930-130 watts/channel. Great sound. I am running 2 floor standing 4ohm speakers (Cerwin Vega RE-30s) which it is not rated for, but no issues so far.
Yes. You get a much better sound in this vintage amps. Thanks for watching my video!
old yamaha are very powerful .
My dad bought a brand new 1987 Yamaha a-32 amp back in the day. The thing was so powerful, at full blast he could make the entire living room tremble (even with vinyl records). He bought an equalizer with it, which was just overkill. Thank you for watching!
Yeah bro.. it's absolutely beautiful machine of Yamaha's Pride! I have a YAMAHA AVX 2000..whoaaaa it's a MONSTER AMP!!!🔊💪💪💪..VERY POWERFUL!!!..and it's produced a absolutely Love the great GREAT SOUND of YAMAHA💗💗💗😍
I found what a goodwilled a few years ago along with a Yamaha 5 disc changer never used brand new there was still protection on the remotes for both units marvelous
Oh wow! I think if you want a good quality CD player you can't do better than a Yamaha. The lasers were built well. Avoid Pioneer 5-disc players, the laser always fails. Thanks for watching!
This Yamaha DSP A 1000 is an absolute sound beast- I have 2 of them. The main Level knob at the back is really useful if you use this amp as a preamp to a power amp, just try and you will be amazed with the sound quality.
I'm using one that I found a few years ago it left brand new The remote still had the plastic on it.I use it as a preamp Can you explain the volume control on the back if it's worth I'm going pull this thing out and check it out
@@reidabney2915 That volume control is the Main Level-OUT control to turn on/drive a power amp. you can use this volume control only when you use the DSP amp as a pre-amp. So, if you pull out the 3 couplings, then you can see the RCA female jack sockets as Out and In under Main ( the 3rd coupling belongs to the RCA of Line Out of Centre and just pull out that coupling as well). I am not sure of your sound quality taste but mine is far out, which means I use both digital (via a Rotel DAC) and analog sources as inputs to the DSP- then from the DSP- I use a line out -using RCA Main Out ( as said above) and that Line OUT straight goes into a Line IN of an Equalizer- then the sound comes OUT from the equalizer to the Power Amp. this is the time that you can use that volume. If the volume of the back of the DSP is too low then the power amp does not turn on. My main concern is the quality of the sound. Just rap up- Both digital and analog sources IN to the DSP-then Main OUT from the DSP to the IN of the equalizer-Line OUT from the equalizer to a Line IN of the power amp- then sound out from the power amp to speakers. simply Amazing.
I have one too! Mine has problems with the source selector and it cannot be cleaned with deoxit spray by yourself. So I use it only on Tape 2 direct which bypasses the troublesome input selector. Lately, there is another issue, sometimes it refuses to start, just shuts down after 2 secs.
However, when it works, it sounds big! It drives my MB Quart 800 standfloor speakers with so much confidence.
Excelent amplifier if you can find one that really works well.
Absolutely! It is a sonic beast. Your power supply might be failing, or the capacitors might be leaking. Make sure the amp has plenty of ventilation. These beasts tend to get hot. Thanks for watching!
That's the ALPS input rotary encoder you're talking about, I take them apart and clean and service them, they work like brand new then.
@joelsDIY I believe the low pass out is for subwoofer and the rear gain is for input level so turn your amp to 3/4 volume and the gain up slowly till first distortion then turn it back till no distortion and that will be your amps maximum volume with no distortion
Sounds great! I should try that out.
@@joelsdiy9469 a hifi magazine claims it tested the output they said it really outputs 242watts rms in 2 channel stereo at 4ohms i have the same amp i love it and will never sell it because of the powerfull bass and warm sound and hi volume its an awesome amp!!! 😀
I've got this Yamaha in the closet with the remote
Nice. I suggest you take it up and crank it up to 11...lol thanks for watching!
i have one but stopped working, the protection turns it off as soon as power on, and i dont trust or dont know who can fix it in my city
It might be that you should replace the fuse. Sometimes you have to open up these old amps and clean them up. Also you might have a bad power supply. If you find a replacement, it should not be so hard to disassemble and replace. Thanks for watching my video!
I have this amplifier good sound but the problem immediately stop
What problem are you referring to? The sound quality is something else. The device was too bulky and I replaced it with a Yamaha A32D. I made a video about it! czcams.com/video/IY0GLEdE-WE/video.html
Dónde conecto el Subwoofer ?
Busque donde diga active speaker. No se si tenga.
