    I left the country back in 1979 after I had to live through the genocide under Pol Pot killing madness. Most of my family members did not survive as we were forced to move out of the Phnom Penh City in 1975 to work in the rice fields.
    I've returned to visit my sole surviving sister every year for the last ten years since my retirement from the US to heal the past. It's very safe to visit Cambodia now as the country has come a long way since the prolonged civil war was officially ended upruptly in 1998.
    Be mindful of your surroundings . Be kind whenever possible. It's always possible as life is short to do the things we don't love doing.
    Happy and safe travels from a genocide survivor ✌️

      Since I did include sample prices for condos, I guess you mean prices for the boreys? There are several newer boreys which will have higher prices, but in Borey Sopheak Mongkol, the oldest borey, shophouses range from $300-800. Duplexes/twin houses range from $500-1,000. Row houses also $500-1,000. Villas range from $1,000-2,000.

    How do you handle the high heat and humidity besides having to be confined to air conditioning? And how do you compare Phnom Penh to Siem Reap? Or Phnom Penh compared to reasonably relaxed smaller cities like DaNang or Nha Trang in Vietnam?

    • @themaven2017

      I spent my summers growing up in the state of Georgia, and the heat/humidity is nothing like the South! Siem Reap (or towns in VN) is much smaller and a slower pace, although you don't have to be busy in Phnom Penh, but there are more options.

    Hi I’m glad I found u I want to take a trip there in a few months hopefully. But I heard the capital is dangerous NOT like America big city dangerous but more like grab snatchers robberies on your person ALOT‼️🙄
    I will also go to Siem Reap to figure out which I might move to my is the capital REALLY THAT BAD🤷🏼‍♀️‼️Im very street smart etc etc but I think I’m more worried bout the food and always getting sick when it comes to the food situation any tips and or advice?
    And my biggest concern is I MUST HAVE A DRYER IN MY UNIT WITH A WASHING MACHINE BUT A DRYER IS A DIRE MUST HAVE‼️‼️
    Call me spoiled but I don’t want to hang my clothes outside with bugs getting in them, I mean if I only do the laundry once a week at most or every other week than I don’t see how my electric bill will be too high 🤷🏼‍♀️
    Ok any info will be greatly appreciated

    • @themaven2017
      @themaven2017  Před 2 měsíci +1

      Phnom Penh is only as dangerous as you make it. Yes there are bag snatchers, but they look for easy targets, so don't be one. Watch out for drunk drivers, especially at night.
      Siem Reap has a totally different vibe. I would never want to live there and people who live there feel the same about Phnom Penh. Crime is equal and not a factor between the two.
      I had more experiences with food poisoning in the US than in Cambodia. It is easy to spot which street vendors are reliable, and there are many restaurants with good reputations. I will caution this, if you do get an upset stomach and your sure it was the food, don't think "three strikes and your out" rather think "fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me"

    • @themaven2017

Other than that, it depends on if you are retired or working, because I find transportation to be a high expense and can eat up a lot of time in traffic, so you have to consider your lifestyle. I enjoy living in Chroy Changvar because it is very peaceful, and it is no problem to go "over the bridge" a few times per week to attend events, go to the movies or eat at a favorite restaurant.
