    I just noticed that Simon stated that the reason that he used ND filters was because the ISO could not go below 400. This puzzles me because I am able to take the ISO down to 50 in video mode CINE. With my limited experience I find that I can control exposure by changing ISO while setting the shutter angle at 180 degrees.

    Thanks for the clear explanation. I do have a question. The MOV files from my SL2-s are not accepted by Davinci resolve on my Mac. Is there an explanation for that.

    • @LeicaCameraAustralia
      @LeicaCameraAustralia  Před rokem

      I use DVR18.1 and the Leica files MOV work fine for me. That's in 10-bit 4.2.2, and both in L-Log and other Gamma settings. Not sure why you'd be having a problem here.

  • @airg75
    @airg75 Před rokem

    Very interesting. For the color grading (I use DaVinci Resolve) I have a question.
    Leica is an HDR Rec 2020 camera (Log) but does not provide a dedicated file for Leica SL2 or Leica SL2-S like for example ARRI Wide Gamut 3 and Arri Log-C3 for the gamma.
    I'm curious to know how you handle this in post-production.

    • @LeicaCameraAustralia
      @LeicaCameraAustralia  Před rokem +1

      You need to manually grade these files but there will be a CST setting for the Leica cameras in a soon to be released version of DVR18. Maybe in 18.2. It's certainly in the pipeline.

    Can i record directly to external SSD ,like sigma fp does? OR. I have to buy expensive memory cards?

    • @LeicaCameraAustralia
      @LeicaCameraAustralia  Před rokem +1

      You cannot record to external SSD unless it's via HDMI to an Atomos Ninja V or Blackmagic design Video Assist. If you use those you can record genuine raw footage. Regarding cards, you only need the expensive 300+MB/s cards if you record at absolute max quality. For 4K 150/200mbps, the 170MB/s cards are fine.

  • @JamesDaviesPhotography

    Hi, on a few clips that I shot over the weekend on the SL2-S I noticed light pulses around where the vignette surrounds the image. I thought possibly it could be the lens correction ‘software’ in the camera causing it. I noticed the issue using the Panasonic 35mm 1.8 and a voigtlander 35mm 2.0 using the Leica m adapter. Is this a known issue and does it have a work around? I don’t want to turn off the lens correction as it disables the ibis.

      Sorry, can't help, as I have no experience with those lenses. I have not noticed what you are describing so it's hard to troubleshoot. I suggest contacting your local Leica store.

    Any ideas about how I can just import files onto iPad without doing this

    • @LeicaCameraAustralia
      @LeicaCameraAustralia  Před 2 lety

      A lot depends on what settings you use. If you are recording to 10 bit 4.2.2 MOV then no, you cannot view on an iPad. But if you shoot in 8 bit MP4 then they should be fine. To play on an iPad, the higher bit rate MOV files will need to be converted to something you can play - or try using some good video editing apps on the iPad, that might work.

    I will ask that Leica please, PLEASE create a dummy battery or license a solution for these cameras. Or an official USB-C to D-tap. I'm shooting on a SL2 currently and it needs an external power solution outside USB-C into the wall to be viable on a set.

    • @LeicaCameraAustralia
      @LeicaCameraAustralia  Před 2 lety +1

      The SL2 and SL2-S will work with external power via the USB-C port. I do this all the time in the studio. However, you need just the right power source and I have yet to work out exactly what specifications you need - I think it might be voltage related. Anyway, my 15W USB-C charger for an iPad Pro does work, whereas other 15W or 18W chargers do not. I do agree there needs to be a genuine external power option, and I also know that this is known to the product development team because I have raised the issue myself!

      @@LeicaCameraAustralia is there really no solution for this? I'm about to get a shoulder rig for my SL2-S with a V-mount battery attachemnt (anton bauer, etc.) and I need to know if the SL2-S will accept power from an external battery pack before I purchase. Thank you so much.

    • @LeicaCameraAustralia
      @LeicaCameraAustralia  Před 2 lety +2

      Both SL cameras work off external power - I can absolutely confirm this because I did an interview with a Leica Ambassadior last week and ran two SL cameras (SL2 and SL2-S) off external power - one from the mains via a USB-C power brick and one from a 10000mAh powerbank, both via USB-C to USB-C cables. There are adapters from V-Mount to USB-C which should work fine, but I do not know this definitively as I have never tried that exact power source. I did notice that I needed to plug in the power with the camera OFF until the green charging light came on, then power up the camera. Then the small 'plug' icon shows up next to the battery lever icon.
      Maybe I should upload a short video demonstrating this!

    • @LeicaCameraAustralia
      @LeicaCameraAustralia  Před 2 lety +1

      The moving water at 1/50 is supposed to be blurred - that's how video can show smooth motion as opposed to a flickery/jerky motion. Maybe that was not clear in the lower resolution live video recording.

  • @JM-xl3ij
    @JM-xl3ij Před 2 lety

    wish Leica would work with Atomos to give SL2 users a higher resolution with ProRes Raw - which is truly an amazing format with Wide Gamut HDR - just saying.

    • @LeicaCameraAustralia
      @LeicaCameraAustralia  Před 2 lety

      Both the Atomos Ninja V (ProRes RAW) and the Blackmagic Video Assist 12G (BRAW) will record raw video data from the SL2-S. Just to be clear, this does not offer higher resolution, but greater bit depth and wider dynamic range.

    • @JM-xl3ij
      @JM-xl3ij Před 2 lety

      @@LeicaCameraAustralia Sorry Nick - what I meant was - it's a pity SL2 (not SL2-S) doesn't get any ProRes RAW features on the Ninjas. I am sure it could be done in firmware.

    • @LeicaCameraAustralia
      @LeicaCameraAustralia  Před 2 lety

      Not as simple as that. Raw records directly from each pixel so on an SL2 it would have to crop the field of view to about half. There is no easy way to record 4K raw from an 8K sensor without a severe crop. In which case you are best off with the SL2-S, as designed. Maybe 8K raw is possible on the SL2, but the data rate would be insane!

  • @Ashaya
    @Ashaya Před 2 lety

    The lack of an articulating screen can be an issue for me because it makes it harder for me to get low-angle shots. There are times when I don't want to be mounting screens and HDMI cables, just to get a low-angle shot. I want to reach into my bag, pull the camera and shoot without having to crouch down all the way to the wet and dirty floor.
    With video, there are plenty of moments where I need to go low. It would be even a worse experience if the video focus was actually reliable. Then the articulating screen would be a must for those quick moments. Since it's all manual, the small screen on the camera is not all that useful for critical focus. So in this scenario, the 5" screen helps a lot and provides the necessary articulation. WIth phases detect, hopefully in the SL3, a screen that can tilt will be of more importance for those who value a smaller camera package and quick access in/out of a bag.
    I hope Leica implements a proper solution in the SL-3. Along with the false color.

    • @Ashaya
      @Ashaya Před 2 lety

      Ohh and why can't I see a REC feedback on my external SmallHD monitor? There are no HDMI overlays on my SL2-S. So I have to look all the way down from the screen every time I press a rec button, just to make sure the camera is recording. Not everyone is using Atomos. We need an option for screen overlays in our monitors to see the settings and be assured the camera is in fact recording.

    • @LeicaCameraAustralia
      @LeicaCameraAustralia  Před 2 lety

      All good feedback, thanks. Yes an articulating screen would be great, but there is no room unless the camera becomes thicker. Regarding the tally, that cannot happen with a simple external monitor because the HDMI out generally needs to be clean so it could be recorded by an Atomos or something. The Atomos adds its own interface on top of the camera's clean output. I agree it would be nice to be able to turn on or off the clean feed, and that is an existing feature request, but for now it's clean only.

    • @Ashaya
      @Ashaya Před 2 lety

      @@LeicaCameraAustralia Then how about adding a small tally light on top left of the camera. One glance down and people can see when the camera is recording.
      Another option is to provide feed with overlays as an option for those who don't care about clean HDMI feed. For non-recording monitors. These kind of options improve usability where it matters most.
      There are times when I thought I was recording, but I wasn't, and there was no simple way to glance down or have any notification in the periphery vision to be reassured.
      I hope Leica will figure out how to add an articulating screen without increasing the thickness of the camera in the next iteration of the camera.
