    SOLD! Very informative, J.P. I watched this minutes after you posted it, called Chris the next day, picked mine up today (Sat). I can’t wait to try it out tomorrow. I think this is a must have for all fire boxes. This basket, plus the ash pan should make our fire boxes last forever! Thanks for the review, J.P. 👍

    Just got mine in today. Will try it out Saturday. Mine is the 20" series so it's tiny. Wish it was just a little wider and longer. Looks to be 3/16" steel. I plan to lay my half splits along the side plates so they don't smother the coal bed. They burn real well when set vertical like that. I like the idea of keeping the burning coals and splits off the side wall of the firebox too. Don't really need the expanded metal bottom since it sits right on top of the original fire grate so I may leave it out for now.

    • @JPBBQ
      @JPBBQ  Před 4 lety

      Right on. I’m excited for you. You gonna see how much easier it is with that basket. I would leave the expanded metal in. It will keep your embers from dropping too soon. Thanks for watching.

    I always use a basket like that for charcoal or lump and just put a cupel of wood chunks on top. Much easier to keep a steady temp with a shovel full once an hour or so.

    I have a vertical 36"x 30" cabinet. Does Chris have 2 different size baskets? If so, which would I need for my cabinet pit, plus how much do they cost. Just viewed your review.

    • @JPBBQ
      @JPBBQ  Před 4 lety

      if you have the 36 x 30 you probably have the 24 inch fire box. So i would go with the 24 in model. but its best to ask Chris, he may have different size firebox for different year models, not sure. He is very good in responding to emails. Both sizes are the same price $75.

    Silly question for you. But do you have to season the basket and the inside of your fire box

    • @JPBBQ
      @JPBBQ  Před 4 lety +2

      Hey there James, appreciate you watching and commenting. I don’t think you have to but it could not hurt. The seasoning is to help build a patina that helps prevent rust from forming. Fire will burn off any rust built as well. I do spray down the inside of the firebox every now and then. Thanks again.

  • @MrPanthers23
    @MrPanthers23 Před 4 lety +1

    Did this basket help with maintaining temps? Does it decrease the amt of wood you use because the fire is more concentrated or localized to a small surface area?

    Jp I'm debating 1/4 in or 1/2 in fire box I live about 130 miles south of you near the intercoastal were the weather is warmer all year around. What is your opinion getting the 24 vertical

    • @JPBBQ
      @JPBBQ  Před 4 lety +1

      That is a great question. All i have is the 1/4 inch and it does a good job retaining heat. If there is one thing i would get for the firebox though it is the ash pan. The bottom of the firebox gets extremely hot and that ash pan I feel works as a layer of protection to the bottom part of the firebox. A 1/2 inch firebox i believe comes with a lifetime warranty but you will have to check with Chris over at Lone Star Grillz. Hope that helps. thanks again

    It claims 23 lbs for the basket. Did you get big cabinet model because you cook alot of product. As opposed to 20 inch series

    • @JPBBQ
      @JPBBQ  Před 4 lety

      Hey there John, appreciate you watching and commenting. I got the bigger model cause it was the most cost effective for the amount of surface area that it can cook. thanks again. Plus if the case arises that i have to cook for a large groups
