Forty two years on, this lovely concerto still dances in my memory, and I play it anew in my dreams. If I could hold the instrument again would my memory drive my fingers on its keys, quicken the pace of my heart and cause the breaths I draw to know the smoothness of my youth? Nothing more would I ask, nor would I find myself happier than to know this once more.
Beautiful. Love it. Doing it for my solo performance exam next year. Except slower :)

This is a beautiful piece, amazing. I think the best bassoon concerto made by Vivaldi. A genius piece. So simple harmony, yet so outstanding techniques. Beautiful. :D
Well with a baroque composer like Vivaldi, there's so much up to interpretation that the tempo could easily be taken slightly faster or slower. He didn't exactly mark a tempo :D That's the beauty of playing pieces like this! And why there are so many different respected musicians playing the same piece with different tempi. Not necessarily that they can't take it at this tempo, but they prefer the way it sounds slower or faster.

Okay, there are several harsh arguments here...They are not nice...Look, Tamas Benkos and Bela Drahos put together a decent recording of what Vivaldi wanted sometime between 1995 and 2005 for the NAXOS label...So, just listen to this concerto at the appropriate time of day!..

Of course that you should practice in slower tempo, it won't be learned if you don't. I just say that when you play it as "learned" in front of an audience as a finished work you should play it in the right tempo. If you are not capable then don't play it yet, practice more or don't play at all. That's what I meant
@smole133 Well the thing is when you start playing a song, you don't outright start at its exact tempo. You build up to it and only do the real tempo when you're technique is to that standard. So if people didn't play songs because they wern't playing the right tempo, no one would play, because they would be told they're not playing the music 'as written', thus taking the enjoyment out of learning a song in the first place.

With all due respect, if you can't play in this tempo, then don't play it. Music should be played in the way it is written. ;)

Do not like... wrong tempos and unexpressive bassoon....
And from minute 7 awful trillos..... really awful... the bassoon is not a telephone.....
