  • Hi everybody! Hunter here with another QUEST!!! This time I head south into the Magdalena Bay Region of Baja California Sur in search of endemic succulents of all types. This adventure begins with part 1 of the series (prob gonna be 3 parts in total) focusing on Magdelena island itself. Isla Magdelena is a sparsely inhabited island just off the coast of the pacific side of the peninsula that has a number of cactus, agaves and pachyhaul trees that I will cover here.
I’m on the trip with some good friends (links below) and am excited to share this with you all. Thank you very much for all the love and support you all have given me. I am so passionate about these plants and the habitats they grow in and its truly a dream come true to be able to share this with you.
I feel very grateful for my audience that allows me to continue doing what I’m doing.
    I hope you enjoy.
If you value this content and would like to contribute at the moment I have my online shop with some graphic t’s, hoodies and some other goodies. Anything you buy helps support me grow the channel, fund travel & keep my equipment up to date. Thanks!

Cacti have been my favorite plants since the early 70"s. Lost an extensive collection several years ago from heater and alarm failure in the greenhouse. 19 degrees F. Froze majority. Love to still see them in the wild at least for now.

These ecosystems are so cool. Everything is like almost growing on top of each other. It's so much more dense than I imagined it could be. That part you mentioned the thick brambles was amazingly thick and honestly treacherous. Super forbidden, but so fascinating.

Cool, very enjoyable video. I love seeing cacti in their habitat. That particular spiky opuntia fruit was like, "Eat me, I f ing dare ya"

Regarding the S. eruca, as I understand it the rooting habit you mentioned is technically not true - they are called the Creeping Devil because they tend to "move" across the landscape by allowing the older end of the stem to die back while growing new roots along the growing portion of the stem. Epic content as always, keep em coming!
