    I have to assume that there is no coach that knows Elaine and what it is she needs to succeed better than Stephen Francis. If he feels that she would greatly benefit from one of those facilities with all of the latest and greatest high tech training and rehab equipment then maybe that needs to be explored to see what options may be available. National pride is essential to our sense of unity and purpose. It fosters a consensus of belonging that helps define who and what we are and who we want to be. We all need that to some extent or another. But we should be careful to not allow those imaginary lines drawn on a map to have us cutting off our noses to spite our faces. If MVP's house is full and he recommends the US then go for it. Nothing to lose. Everything to gain.

  • @MachelN25
    @MachelN25 Před 2 dny +4

    Just to amplify a comment I made below (twice, in fact!). There is such a desire to punish Elaine in how we speak about her. In fact, the sense that she is the sole party at fault in her leaving the club appears to mask a much more pernicious issue - several of the big-named athletes all left the club in the past, and, at various points, at the heights of their careers. Names like Powell, Frazer-Pryce, Simpson and a few others come to mind, here! That says that Elaine's decision to leave, however dire it might have ultimately turned out to be, was neither surprising nor a one-way street. Therefore to penalise her for her presumed 'pride' and 'ego' implies that all that is necessary for there to be a change is an apology. Simply put, an apology without changed behavour is tantamount to abuse!
    It is good that Mr. Francis has also come to recognise the impact of his earlier harsh words on further alienating Elaine, and it is even better that he is upfront about saying he has reflected on his words since, and has a more nuanced position now. But it is also important that people give Elaine the same grace that his remarks suggest he is asking of the public. Wan an kyaa klap! It takes two to tango. Elaine left for a reason, even if that is, as people say, at the urging of her husband; the decision was ultimately hers. Considering that she missed Worlds last year and the Olympics this year, both of which were only two and three years after after Tokyo, says to me that that decision was not an easy one, nor lightly taken. Please afford her the grace to consider before we start pouring out all kinds of venom, veiled either as 'advice' or 'innocent' observations!
    (We must learn to come away from the dysfunction of abuse and punishment. Give Elaine the grace (and privacy!) to make the decision that is best for her!)
    PS: When I say, missing Worlds, I meant as an individual finalist.

  • @vicjohn441
    @vicjohn441 Před 2 dny +8

    Elaine Thompson needs a close friend who she is able to trust with just about anything to sit her fown and have a one and one with her on the topic. Elaine's pride is too much, and it may well stand in the way of her seeing that Mr Francis is still her best option. Elaine is like a daughter to Mr Francis and she should submit, get her pride out the way and mend the broken fence between them. Mr Francis is just a straight up person who tells how he feels, but it doesn't mean that Elaine was never one of his favorites.

    • @MachelN25
      @MachelN25 Před 2 dny +1

      While you may well be right, there is a way that people make it seem as though Elaine is completely at fault in her leaving the club. There is no use accepting an apology without changed behaviour - that is called abuse! It is good that there is a softening of ways, but we must also consider that one hand can't clap. It was surely not a one-sided affair that lead to her leaving, considering the dire outcomes of not being able to go to Worlds last year or the Olympics to defend her titles! No one would take such a drastic decision without reason or aforethought. To suggest otherwise is to assign her all the responsibilities of keeping this relationship going.
      Please remember that athletes' careers are dependent on the extent to which they can be successful at their craft, but coaches are no less implicated in that scenario. If they can't manage to keep a relationship grounded and the athlete focused on the task at hand, then there is a comment about their leadership and overall effectiveness which needs answering as well. Let us be balanced in this hurry to single Elaine out as being solely responsible!

I have never been one of those to blame her nor her husband for the decision that they made, because there must be a valid behind it all. There were persons who seemed to have been offended when I said for Naldo to train ETH on the side, she would simply be a side hustle as his priority will always be to his contracted and committed athletes ie members of his track club. Well here is Franno saying the very same thing. However I also hear a more conciliatory tone in his comments this time around. He did say he "wouldn't say no". If her connections are serious they would immediately contact MVP, she would of course need to do the ritual of 'kissing the ring' ie. apologize for past venomous comments made against Franno and MVP and of course commit her loyalty once again to him and the MVP organization. I honestly DO NOT see this happening though because while Franno said he never had a problem working with her and she never had a problem working with him, there was 'this voice' in the background giving her competing instructions and when she eventually got married Franno said he knew he would have major problems as that 'voice' now had a much larger platform from which to speak. For her to go back to MVP Am fairly sure Franno well first want to know how she plans to deal with competing instructions as I dont think he will want to be competing with that voice at any time in the future.

    I have always said Eliane should come to the USA…. Emotionally athletes need positive input not the negativity from some of the Jamaicans….who said she is finished , her husband this , of back to Franno when it wasn’t realistic.
    The psychological impact of negative comments do affect the athletes… some talked badly about Yohan Blake- the pressure intensified and the outcome??
    Negative comments can negatively affect sports performance in a number of ways, including:
    “Negative self-talk
    Can cause athletes to feel afraid of failure, which can lead to decreased motivation and feelings of hopelessness. Negative self-talk can also include criticism of failure, avoiding skill recognition, and extended focus on failure. This can lead to athletes developing neural pathways that become familiar with negativity and their brains becoming comfortable producing negative thoughts. Negative self-talk can also create anxiety, which can lead to increased heart rate, irregular breathing, self-doubt, and lack of focus.
    Negative news
    Can consume a significant amount of an athlete's mental energy, reducing their ability to focus and leading to low performance.
    Negative motivation
    Can also decrease motivation, especially if a coach or athlete is overly negative after a poor performance. For example, athletes who use negative motivators, such as being dropped off the starting team, may perform more conservatively”

    Derron has sabotaged Elaine not once but twice. It might have been OK to leave MVP for financial reasons if, and only if, Elaine switched to another top notch proven coach. But apparently Derron believes coaching is easy and anyone with a couple of years of experience in coaching can be almost as good as Frano. The second change when Elaine left Shanikie was inexcusable. Derron's focus on money prevented him from thinking about how Elaine needs special treatment because of how fragile she is. Every effort should have been made to work things out with Shanikie instead of rushing to make another coaching change.
    I believe if Elaine stays with Walcott she will never return to winning form. Obviously the best solution is to return to Frano if possible. Hopefully Derron will realize the error of his ways and quit sabotaging Elaine's career.

I would love to learn more about the situation at MVP, from Elaine's perspective, to learn why she was eager to leave. Because for a woman of God, she must have learned how to give grace and learn to understand that working environments will not always be ideal. Therefore, she should have kept her eyes on the prize and with the understanding that her track career does not have a long shelf life. Look at what happened to Melaney Walker ? what is going on with these people. Are we getting weaker as a people and as a nation ? where is the fighting spirit ? and the will to maintain focus? where?
