Truffle Training - Should You Use Oil or Fresh Truffles to Train Your Dog?

- Can you really use truffle oil to train a truffle dog or do you need to get hold of fresh truffles? Does it matter what species of truffle or what kind of oil you use for truffle dog training? And one more thing, does the dog have to go through separate training to find different species of truffle? This video answers the questions most frequently asked, shows the eight commercial European truffles and dissects a tuber mesentericum- all in just over two minutes!
Oh Julie, that looked sooo good. Eggs Benedict is one of my favorite breakfast foods. There's no just one way to make them. Poached egg, slice of Canadian bacon on top of half a English Muffin with hollandaise sauce. From there we get creative. Perhaps a little bit of smoked brisket. Some shaved truffle ( oh I'm looking forward to trying that someday) or eggs Benedict with some crumbled pieces of my smoked salmon sprinkled on top. Hmmm. So I'm working on video #1. Still working on editing. I really hope to have it out by next week, even if I'm not happy with it. Always great to see you and your videos. Have a great day and stay safe and healthy. 😃👍🎬🧆

I copied your training for truffle hunting and had 6 weeks to do it before UK Truffle Festival 2022. Brutus came 12th in the gold section, finding two real truffles for the first time ever and one oil bait. Lots of penalty points for weeing on everything i think. I only used truffle oil for training. Anyway just a quick thank you really, your videos gave me much help!!
That's really lovely to hear. I was at the festival, did I see you at all? You may have seen me or my daughter, we had some of our white truffles
@@TheRealTruffleHunters I did say to my friend who came with me, i'm sure that's the lady i subscribe too on youtube but couldn't be! It was a long drive from wales but it was a great day! I learnt a lot.

@@TheRealTruffleHunters hey I have told many people to check out the chihuahua and your channel. Some have responded they were laughing just at the thought of a chihuahua hunting truffles. It's getting dark here at home and I'm about to place a chicken with olive oil and chopped rosemary on the grill. Soooo good and easy. Hmmmm.😋
I know you were pretty taken with that truffle-crazed Chihuahua so I did a bit of research. Apparently his name is Gustave. Perfect name foe a truffle dog, he sounds like a Parisian chef with exacting standards! That chicken of yours sounds spot on - how about some garlic cloves inserted into the meat?

To clarify, Does artificial truffle oil contain the sulfides that dogs search for? Can I use cheap artificial truffle oil or do I need to buy the expensive stuff?
When you begin training you can use any truffle oil at all, use the cheapest. As you become more advanced you will want to switch to actual truffles - you can use the lowest grade scraps of the truffles that you will be hunting.
