Ramin -- always a class act, gently bowing Beanie back on stage to take another bow.
So fascinating for me, in general, to learn over the past two years (as, gee, I finally had some time on my hands for some reason to indulge myself in youtube bingeing) what it really takes to develop or revive a musical, and learn how often they get changed, or evolved, or songs get taken out, or put back in. Just thank you to all commentators who have shared their knowledge.

Just for some historical perspective: 58 years ago Funny Girl opened to very good reviews and 23 (!) curtain calls. However, if you go back to it's first preview in Boston, it ran 4 hours long and the critics savaged it. The book for this show has never been great. Harvey Firestein has changed it, but it will take a lot of work in front of an audience for them to zero in on what works and what doesn't. This is very much still a work in progress. Glad to hear the show ran smoothly - looking forward to seeing it in June.

I was there that night and I'm happy to report that Harvey absolutely nailed it. It was completely perfect, polished, and went off without a hitch. If they keep it exactly as is, everybody is in for a MAJOR treat. No changes needed.

Racism, fatphobia, and general shittiness will result in a block. This is a fan channel, not the Wild West, and I am not required to allow free speech that is hateful. If you cannot critique without that, don’t bother.

    1) About the confusion at Beanie's final exit on stage. (Edit: I got it! It's an elaborate joke for the show, I didn't expect it)
    2) This first preview has been a sea of emotions for Beanie, despite the fact that he is adapting to Jule Styne's hard score, that great charisma and cunning to interpret each line does not leave the public indifferent and steals applause, so it's a matter of time to see how far she can surprise, especially to the harsher and more obtuse side of critics and audiences who will want to compare her to Barbra Streisand.

We saw it last night. What a fantastic ensemble!! Jane Lynch and Ramin were incredible. Beanie has the comedic elements down PAT. The only notes I would have are that some of the costumes for Fanny need to be reworked. And “The Music That Makes Me Dance” should be cut for idk? “My Man”? It’s not an easy song to sing… over all Beanie did a great job and only has up to go from here!! I understand some people were disappointed, and during intermission some people left before the second act but anyone expecting Barbra Streisand for anything that isn’t Barbra Streisand is gonna be disappointed every time. that’s on them 🤷🏻‍♂️ but we loved it

    Hello-
on the official website there is a song listing/breakdown for the show. its the same as on the original cast album. if the song
listing/breakdown is the same I assume the scene breakdown is the same as well. therefore what exactly is Harvey
    Fierstein "revising"?

They removed the references to her nose. And they added some new scenes. It basically follows the London revival set list. “Find yourself a man” is cut and “who taught her everything” is in its place moved from the first act. “Temporary Arrangement” from the original Boston tryout is back in as well.

He restructured Act 2. Mrs. Brice has been expanded. Also, the song list posted on website is incorrect. Fanny sings a short “Who Are You Now?” after her entrance, which was never there. They also added “Funny Girl” from the film right before she does “Don’t Rain on My Parade” (Reprise) that closes the show. Also, Act 2’s “Who Are You Now?” is a duet and they added back to the show “Temporary Arrangement”, which is a dance number for Nick. Fierstein restructured quite a bit from the original 1964 version.

I was 9 when Barbra did Funny Girl on Broadway-sadly didn’t see it. I DID see the movie over and over and over… Yes only ONE Barbra Streisand, period.
Saw Funny Girl Preview this past Monday evening… Beanie Feldman has timing and lots of funny but her being “Funny Girl” she did not wow me with her singing even with her not imitating her predecessor and making the character her own. I Do think her singing in Act 2 was better.
The songs need a powerful singer who can hold those long (higher )notes on key and express to the viewer the emotion she is feeling….I tried my very best to shut MY Babs out and give Beanie my full listening attention to be fair. I did not feel or believe the love intensity (chemistry)between Fanny and Nick.

I was there Monday as well… Beanie, you could tell, was terrified. She lost me a bit in the first act then convinced me in the second and held me UNTIL “music that makes me dance” which unfortunately was cringey.. she hit one wrong note and freaked and couldn’t get back on track. I only had high expectations for her bc of her own passion for the piece…. Unfortunately she’s in her head and needs to get out of it and just be herself. The voice IS there her belting was great!! Shes just too petrified.

    • @ellenkletzkin1016

I went digging online for Streisand’s Funny Girl B’way show. There are footages to see. A work in progress as seen early on. Yes there were wrinkles that needed ironing out. But Barbra is and always will be the one who made the show and movie as memorable as it is.
A show can not be compared to a movie!!! Night and day. Two different mediums. A movie if directed, produced, and edited with great sound is an art form of sheer perfection.
If a remake of the movie is even a speckle of possibility… well then Lea Michelle would be the one. Hey maybe Barbra would play the mother … HA! Now that’s a full circle event that would get people off their couches and back to movie theaters!
Beanie certainly is an entertaining actress. She has demonstrated her ability to be dramatic actress and comedic actress too.
She certainly can sing… I am not sure all three in this particular show.

There were no stops at all. As far as how it was, it was good. I’m just not a big fan of old musicals, so while I enjoyed it, it was probably a one and done for me.
